When one receives a call at the god forsaken hours of morning, there are often a few set thoughts that run through their heads.

One, who the fuck. Two, why the heck.

Vague grunting noises akin to a sleepy Bewear crackle over the line, a soft greeting mumbled as Ryuuzaki buries his head into a pillow. The familiarity of the voice doesn't even do anything to brush the sleepiness from his head, the surprise melting into a mild sense of irritation and resignation as he forces himself to lie in a debatably more comfortable position.

He can recognise that yowl from a mile away. Or rather, he can probably recognise the species to which it belongs to. And so does Skadi inherently, her icy glare thrown towards the Jolteon as she tilts her snout up at him. But before anything happens, a hand is placed right over her eyes, earning a small scoff from the Glaceon as she immediately flicks her head away.[break][break]

"I've been tasked with handling this Sharpedo infestation. In other words, everyone else is off duty and I was the only one they could call on such short notice." He lets out a sigh as he rests a free hand on his neck, cracking it with a quick tilt of his head.[break][break]

"How about you? If you're just here to take a swim, I'd strongly recommend against it!"

Ever since the dome enclosed Hoenn, the marine life haven't quite been the same. Staring out into the distance, brilliant blue fins decorate the coastline, swimming up and down the high tides and waiting for their next meal.[break][break]

"Oh, I remember you little buggers. Almost killed me once, you did." He whistles, "Surely you guys ain't hunting, are you?"[break][break]

He may ask, but he knows better than to expect any answers. And yet, he's obliged to try by any means to understand why they're crowding around these parts beyond the whole 'unable to get out of the region' spiel. And beyond that, he has a duty to the people to try and dissuade these angry sharks from attacking them and their beachgoing pokemon.[break][break]

He isn't one to miss the shuffling outside the door, his eyes already flicking up from Skadi to meet the gaze of a stranger.[break][break]

"Oh, it's alright." A welcoming smile is followed by him trying to get up, only to sigh as he has to cradle the literal stubborn princess of a Glaceon who refuses to get off of him. "We weren't scheduled for anything today, so I have plenty of time to look him over."[break][break]

Skadi views the Gallade from her lofty throne, wrinkling her nose as she sniffs the air. Then she mews, resting her paws on her trainer's shoulders as she relaxes.[break][break]

"You really are a big baby aren't you, Skadi?" He murmurs, giving her head one last ruffle as he beckons for the duo to follow him. And it isn't that far of a walk, the group soon standing before a weighing scale. "Alright then, I'm gonna need you to stand on there for a bit... Name's Ryuuzaki. And who might you two be?"

He enjoys the quiet days, those rare few days that come with no new visitors or horrible surprises being wheeled in on gurneys. When he gets those little breaks, he's usually seated at the front desk, updating a few medical records or checking through for discrepancies.[break][break]

A purr rings from below the desk, an icy body brushing against his shins right before he receives a nip to his ankles. Pausing, Ryuuzaki pushes his chair back to gain a glimpse of the perpetrator, reaching down to pick her up for a quick cuddle.[break][break]

Dead pokemon and written reports... He's so engrossed in the thought of pursuing a mystery that he almost forgets his title - A League-affiliated pokevet, not a ranger and most certainly not a Rocket field operative.

"I'll head back and get some of the rangers to help retrieve the bodies." He sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. Skadi tumbles out of her pokeball with a subtle grace, her eyes lingering on the heeled footprints. When Ryuuzaki nods towards them, she moves, destroying the trail and freezing the air around her. If anything, the cold would probably have been enough to dull the scent - Anyone else trying to sniff it out would have a nightmare trying to discern it from the musk of blood, poison and muddy forest.

Spirits is a very vague way of describing it. Human spirits? He knows of pokemon that are essentially objects possessed by human spirits, so perhaps they can simply exist without combining with a corporeal object. Still, he's glad that Benicio doesn't take offense to his commentary, relaxing just a little as Skadi seems more than content with having Dior flinch at her touch.

Well, isn't this a rather amusing way to use his time off? To play dress up and go mingling with a crowd of strangers to see who you click with by the end of the night. Though he hates putting things to rest, Ryuuzaki shares Tempest Quinn's sentiments. With those that have a chance captured in pokeballs and his own pokemon returned, he can only kneel down next to those who are too far gone, offering them warmth and comfort until their final breath.

When all is said and done, they have to put their feelings aside - They're still on a mission and emotions do well in impairing their judgement at times. Sharp ears pick up on the emergency communications, his mind running through the possibilities even as he checks their environment for clues.

"I wouldn't be surprised if another dimensional portal opened after the last time." He mutters, "In fact, we might just be dealing with some of those aliens." Whatever they may be, if they had truly broken free of the ex-champion's pokeballs and managed to cause this many casualties. Of all, it seemed that at least one had headed towards Mount Pyre and possibly a duo towards Route 120.

Given the nature of rampaging pokemon incidents, the rangers would probably swarm the runaways within seconds. If it's already a hassle to have to play along with their little charades of justice, he's sure that attempting to steal away whatever caused this mess would be near impossible. So for now he'll call upon his Zeraora, handing over the pokeballs containing the injured pokemon and sending it off with the instructions to get to the nearest pokecentre.
