Watching her circle the glass with a finger was mesmerizing, enough to almost miss her second question. “Pretty much every day, if I can. Usually in the river on Route 119.”

The glass raised to his lips once more, delighting in the numbing feeling that was beginning to overtake the sting. “Keeps me in shape, seeing as I sit at a computer all day.” A hand instinctively moved to his stomach, patting the lean muscles through his shirt.

“Myself?” Quinn wasn’t used to being asked about himself, usually more about the project he was working on at the time. “Uhm, I like reading and swimming.” He’d take a moment to mull over the question once more, realizing exactly how uninteresting he was.

“I like movies, too.” Quinn was slightly embarrassed that he didn’t have much to offer, instead turning the conversation towards her. “How about you?”

HOENN'S SCIENCE FAIR

    “I’m so excited!” Quinn jostled his research assistant, the Gardevoir standing next to him at the stand designated for the Weather Institute. “Aren’t you excited, Lucy?” She seemed rather uninterested in the whole experience, but she’d been present nonetheless. On display was a variety of information about the Institute itself, detailing everything from the founding to the creation of Castform for the region. He’d even brought along his personal Castform, Doppler and Radar, to show off the previous achievements of their research.

    Of course, this convention wasn’t meant to show off what had been done in the past. Hoenn’s Science Fair was all about the future and what technology was being developed to further the technological development of the region. In that interest, the main display was directed towards Project Delta, a prototype design for a weather machine that could alter and control the climate of Hoenn from their facility on Route 119.

    A miniature had been commissioned of the satellite, and various monitors of weather change projections were set up to show the impact that they intend to have in stabilizing the climate of the region. Droughts and wildfires would be non-existent, and hurricanes could be redirected or dissipated before even reaching landfall. Some claimed that the Weather Institute was attempting to play Arceus, but Quinn maintained they were just trying to help. “This is gonna be so much fun!”

“To new partnerships.” Quinn raised the glass in unison with their toast, a soft crimson still present on his cheeks. As he brought the glass to his lips, hazel eyes locked with her own amber for the first time.

They were pretty, how did he not notice before? Quinn took a drink of the liquor, sucking air in through his teeth at the bite.

An embarrassed flush crossed his cheeks as they placed the hand on his shoulder, offering a compliment on his behalf. “Thank you, Aria.” Perhaps she was right, he should take pride in the accomplishment.

    “Correct.” Quinn nodded in response to her question, accepting the glass from Indeedee with a small smile. “The purpose of Project Delta has been to create a machine that can affect and control the climate of Hoenn.” Reaching into the messenger back on his lap, he produced a laptop adorned with a Castform decal on the back. “We don’t want to play Arceus, but we could change the weather in struggling areas of the region. Drought and Wildfires wouldn’t be a worry anymore, we could dissipate hurricanes before they even make landfall.”

    Quinn’s passion for this project was obvious, the excitement in his voice noticeable even to the most oblivious. “Naturally with a machine so sensitive and precise, a single line of code out of place could cause a blizzard in Sootopolis City or a tornado in Dewford Town.” He pressed a few keys and turned the laptop towards Yui Fujin Silph , scooting the computer closer to her. “We have coders on staff at the Weather Institute but none of them are as good as you. Seeing as I’m Head Researcher on this project, I want to make sure that nothing goes wrong.”

    Code was displayed on the screen, the current write-up that he’d had prepared by the coders of the institute. “The League is willing to pay you a hefty consultants fee to help clean up and supervise the coding, remotely of course. You would have access to the server we keep the code on.”

Quinn matched her smile, pleased that she wanted to continue to help. “Thanks for not calling me an eccentric weather freak or something.” He chuckled and looked towards the glass of water that remained untouched.

“On second thought, some whiskey sounds nice.” A celebratory drink, for a partnership forged.

“You know, this place doesn’t look anything like a closet. I don’t know what the receptionist was talking about.” Quinn commented as he took a seat opposite Yui Fujin Silph , the soft smile of greeting still adorning his face. “I’m okay, thank you! I’m actually meeting a friend for dinner after this meeting.” She was younger than he expected someone of her renown to be, then again he was the same in that regard.

“I’m not sure how much you know about our current project at the Weather Institute, but we’re running into some specific snags with our machine.” The creation of a weather controlling device wasn’t exactly unknown to the citizens of Hoenn, having been the pioneer project of the institute for nearly a year now. “I hear you are one of the best coders in the region, and we could use your specific skills.”

“Good afternoon!” Quinn approached the Silph Co. information desk with a bright smile on his face, recognizing the familiar face of the secretary behind the counter. “You again?” She let out an exasperated sigh, already feeling drained by his cheerful demeanor. “I don’t see any Castform deliveries on the schedule, Doctor Riley.” Quinn shook his head, reaching into his bag and handing a document to her. “I’m actually supposed to meet with Ms. Yui Fujin Silph today!” She cocked an eyebrow and read over the paper before handing it back to him with a visitor badge, pointing towards the elevator. “Take those to the 34th floor, look for the closet with her name on the door.”

Quinn was confused by the statement, did she actually work out of a closet? “Thank you!” A quick ride up the elevator brought him to the designated floor, stepping off and moving down the hallway until he spotted her nameplate. “Hello?” When he knocked on the door, the entry was already partially open, swinging further with each rap of his knuckles. “Ms. Silph?”

    “I’m supposed to have an interview with a courier who was at Route 113.” Quinn closed the screen of his laptop before sliding it back into his bag. “Locke Jamison of Delibird Deliveries. I’m hoping they’ll be able to confirm our theory, though we’d still be working off anecdotal evidence.”

    Excitement was beginning to get the best of him as well, chewing his bottom lip out of a nervous habit. “I think you’re right. Should we manage to determine a pattern, then we could use that data to predict where this Pokémon will appear next.” It took a moment for Quinn to realize that he’d been using ‘we’ instead of ‘I’, glancing towards Aria with a sheepish smile.

    “Would you want to work on this with me? I don’t know how busy Professor Jabami keeps you.” He didn’t want to assume, she likely had many of her own projects to occupy her time.
