“Leo!” Quinn rushed forward with his trademark enthusiasm and wrapped his arms around them, a bright smile stretched across his face. “I missed you!” He held the embrace for a moment before letting them go, taking a measured step backwards to give them space. “Nope, not too long.” Truthfully, Quinn had lost track of time when he’d been waiting, going over research data on his phone in the meantime. “There's someone else who was excited to see you, too.” A finger pointed over Leo’s shoulder to where Woomy had been waiting just out of view to surprise them, having evolved from a Sliggoo into a Goodra since they last had seen each other.

“She’s been as good of a research assistant as she was a study-buddy.” Quinn giggled softly as the Goodra approached, still having a few scraps of paper stuck to her form. Gooey tears welled up in Woomy’s eyes as she waddled up to Leo and attempted to give him a hug that would definitely leave some ooze residue on his clothing. “Don’t worry, I always carry wet wipes in case she gets huggy.” Quinn smiled and looked towards the building where The Great Escape was being hosted before glancing back at Leo. “Are you excited? I’ve never done one of these before.”

“I’m outside whenever you get here!” Quinn sent the text message off to leo del río ‘s phone accompanied with a number of silly emojis, excited to be able to see his friend again for the first time in months. Leo and Quinn had become close when he was attending Slateport University, quickly finding friendship with each other whenever they weren’t busy with studies. When he received his doctorate from the university, Quinn had gone off to live in Fortree City to live out his dream of working for the Weather Institute, but this meant he had to move away from his best friend.

Since he’d been with the institute for a few months, Quinn was finally able to apply for some vacation time that allowed him to visit Slateport City and be with his friend once again. Now he waited outside of the Great Escape, a local escape room in the city, for Leo to arrive, almost unable to contain the excitement that welled up inside of him. Today was going to be a lot of fun and he couldn’t wait.

Summer was soon approaching and with heat came drought, causing some areas of Hoenn that were more semiarid to be at risk of spontaneous wildfires. Quinn had been dispatched by the Weather Institute to do a visual inspection of Route 112, searching for physical data as to whether the area was in need of intervention from the prototype they’d been working on. “I love field work, how about you, Doppler?” Quinn smiled and looked towards the Castform that was floating alongside him, which let out a cheerful cry in response. On this particularly cloudless day, Doppler took on the appearance of the sun itself, bright and shining visually and emotionally.

As the two of them approached Route 112, smoke billowed in the near distance, forcing Quinn to pick up his pace slightly. “Oh...crap.” Underbrush had already begun to catch fire around the trees, some sections of foliage already in a full and uncontrollable blaze. “Crap, crap, crap!” Seemed as though they were too late to intervene, and it would take hours to calibrate the weather machine. “We have to take this into our own hands, Doppler.” Rolling up his sleeves, Quinn pointed towards the flames and looked towards his Castform. “We gotta find the source and put out the fire!”

“Really?” Quinn accepted the offer almost immediately, curious hands moving to gently squeeze their arm muscle with one hand and their breast with another. “Wow! You must get a lot of dates with muscles like these, huh?” There wasn’t a hint of embarrassment on the researcher as he groped their toned physique, seemingly lacking any sense of shame.

“H-handsome?” Hands moved away from Tempest Quinn ’s body as a soft crimson flushed into his cheeks, apparently having gotten that one through his oblivious nature. “Uhm...well, I actually work at the Weather Institute, and live in Fortree City!” Quinn reached for the badge that was attached to his belt, the retractable badge clip allowing him to hold it up to their eye level. “See?” Sure enough, his picture was on the badge with ‘Doctor Riley’ listed as the name underneath.

Quinn was often lost in his thoughts, and that certainly happened to be the case as the stranger jogged up to him, only realizing there was someone else around when they eventually spoke up. “Huh? Oh, hello!” A bright smile crossed his face as he turned towards them, always happy to meet new people no matter how sleep deprived he was. “I know, right?” As he spoke, his gaze shifted towards the sky. “Seventy-three degrees with scattered cloud cover and minimal humidity. It’s beautiful!” Seemed as though the attempt to flirt had completely gone over his head for the time being, Tempest Quinn might have to step up his game.

“I’m Quinn, by the way.” A hand reached out for them to shake, inspecting their body for a brief moment. “You’re in really good shape, i’m jealous!” He didn’t really like to be sweaty though, not envious of that part of the stranger at the moment. “I don’t really have much muscle myself, you know?” A finger gently prodded at his own miniscule chest in disappointment while he looked at the pectoral muscles the other boasted.

“Excuse me.” Quinn approached the Silph Co. information desk with a friendly smile spread across his lips. “I have a delivery from the Weather Institute!” The woman behind the counter turned slightly to glance at the monitor of her computer before looking back at him. “Doctor Riley, correct?” An enthusiastic nod preceded Quinn hefting the metal briefcase onto the counter, clicking the locks open and displaying the contents to her. “A shipment of ten Castform, as promised!” She accepted the briefcase with a far more professional expression on her face, gesturing to one of the nearby security guards to pass along the package. “Mr. Silph and the research department thanks you, have a nice day.”

A look indicated that he should leave the building if business was concluded, and Quinn wasn’t intending on staying any longer than needed. “You too, have a wonderful evening!” Stepping through the double doors back into the streets of Slateport, a deep rumbling in his stomach reminded Quinn that he hadn’t eaten at all today. “Uhm, excuse me!” He attempted to get the attention of a man about his age with crimson hair that had been loitering around the building since before he’d entered. “Do you know a good place around here to eat? I’m starving.”

“Huh?” Quinn covered his eyes with a hand as he exited the doors of the Weather Institute, squinting to protect himself from the blinding light. “Daylight already?” Overtime and extended shifts had become the norm ever since a hurricane had appeared out of nowhere on Route 113, seemingly with no explanation. Time slipped away easily when Quinn was in the midst of research, fascinated with getting to the source of meteorological events that occurred around Hoenn. “Come on, Woomy.”

A sleepy Goodra trugged behind Quinn as he walked down the steps, leaving a trail of slime behind as she sauntered along. “We have about six hours before our next shift, we need some sleep!” The two of them continued along the path towards Fortree City, covering his mouth at the sudden onset of an escaping yawn. “I think we’re getting close though, I can feel it Woomy!”
