they were ready to rumble as the people said. though for what they weren't really sure. other than a neat looking pokemon or something? they were pretty sure that was what was going on now. homura barely had a slowpoke in this race but they weren't going to let that stop them as they tossed a pokeball at the pretty lizard thing. they'd never seen that sort of pokemon but it would be neat to show if they got it.

they tried not to think about the fact that there wouldn't be any boats from kanto. it wasn't what they wanted to hear after all. what they wanted was to pretend that their parents were coming in on the next boat in to get them. and that they were going to go home with no issue and that rocket would never have bothered to hurt anyone again. but that wasn't the truth in the slightest and they couldn't stop that. no matter how much denial they put themselves in. "i live in... lived in fuschia." it was a nice place with a nice safari zone after all.

they sat closer to the water this time, so that if coolie started to act up once more that he could be stopped before hurting anyone. he was a terror through and through and there was really no reason for it. well, they thought there was no reason for it. really he was just an extremely protective little fellow. "he's always done this. even when he's not hungry. he could be full to the brim and he'd still be a meanie." and they just didn't understand why... "maybe he was just born like that."

"since you're a scientist maybe you can figure out why he's mean?" they didn't really know a lot about science but that seemed like the right way to go. or maybe it was a different kind of science?

they'd done a lot of work today, gotten a lot done with what they had. two pokemon was nothing to sneeze at. but now they still needed to look for one more. after all, that was part of the safari zone here. you could catch three pokemon and then they booted you out. they only had one more pokeball left so they needed to use it wisely. it would need to be a real special pokemon for it.

"stop!"

there it was. the ultimate worm. slithering through some of the water as they skated by. it was a pokemon they had seen many times on the tv when they had been able to watch it. a pokemon that champions had. though it was just a baby worm for now they were sure it would grow up big and strong.

"scoop."

the wailmer opened it's mouth wide, scooping the worm up into it's mouth to carefully hold it until they could reach land. that technically counted as catching, right?

they were pleased with the amount of work they had done, a bell ringing in the background where the main house was. it was the sound that the farmers had told her to listen for for when the work was all done. "oh, the bell!" carefully they put the watering can back where it belonged. back in the spot they had picked it up from in the first place. "i'm all done now." the psyduck waddled beside them as they headed for the gate. it was all the work they were supposed to do for now.

now that they had a big pokemon to race around on in all of the water it would be a little bit harder to find pokemon. but that was fine because it meant they would have to walk and wade through the deep water less. something they were kind of looking forward to. some of that water was a little bit faster than the rest and seemed dangerous really. they didn't want to end up getting hurt here. that would have completely defeated the purpose of their parents shipping them off here.

their mom had gotten them duckie as a birthday present last year. and the year before that gemmie and coolie had come as a duo for their birthday. they had technically been homura's "starter" pokemon as it were. their life had been a little bit more complicated than the average trainer who went to the lab and got a special pokemon and all that stuff. but that was because of rocket. it was always because of rocket.

"i helped blow up a pirate ship." it had been a weird experience and an accident that they had even been there. but they'd still done the job. duckie wadded over to one of the un-watered plants, spitting water onto it like the watering can did.

a bunch of lapras? they hadn't seen one of those in a long time as they hurried down to the shore to try and get a look. they had been rare in kanto and even rarer still here in hoenn. homura didn't want to risk not getting to see one while they could. from the shore they waved excitedly from the shore, trying to get the attention of them. especially since some of the pokemon were strange colored. a weird purple. it looked nice though. maybe one of them would want to be their friend?

gum was always a welcome addition to their inventory really. it was good to chew on and kept you quiet when you needed to be. back home they needed to be quiet a lot while their parents did important business work.

"duckie can fill water cans too." after all it was a water type and that was what she was here for. that's what they were both here for. so they took the gum and began chewing on it slowly and carefully as they began to dump water on another plant.

"you work with the league?" that was the ones that weren't rocket. if they remembered right. and only people who were with the league would want to water plants super good like this. rocket only liked ruining them.

it was massive. it was squishy. and it looked a lot more friendly than the weird waving pokemon as the wailmer seemed to have a big smile on it's face. amazing. running around it a little bit, homura gently placed a hand on the friendly looking whale. it didn't seem to mind. after all it was a lot bigger than they were and if nothing else they could be considered a minor nuisance to it if the water type really wanted. so of course that meant they wanted to climb on it.

the wailmer sunk a little bit deeper into the water to help them climb up on her back. it was still a hassle, with the water type being so large. eventually it sunk deep into the water until only the bare minimum of her back was visible to let homura climb on. and then off they went. zooming across the water of the safari zone at speeds that caused the child to finally break something of a smile. a large pokemon like this would definitely be handy to have around.

as they waded through the water, the sight of a pokemon waving fists wildly in the air caused homura to be a little bit uncomfortable. especially since they weren't really sure if they were allowed to fight in this safari zone. it wasn't allowed back home and they didn't want to get in trouble... so quickly they hurried past the strange looking pokemon. it was left in the sand as they continued to look for something that didn't look like it wanted to hit them...

while homura was resting, gemmie had been sent out to get some work done in the harbor. probably residual work from when they had sunk the pirate ship. which was fine. the water type had already jumped in the water, the light from it's gem illuminating the way for other water types that were diving into the depths in order to get the salvage from the darker parts of it. the star arms waving back and forth as they directed the traffic through the water so that they wouldn't have some sort of under water pile up.

homura nearly dropped the pail when someone came up to them, talking about rangers or something. they didn't know anything about that really. just that they were going to get more gum money for watering these things. but they knew that the rangers were supposed to be good guys here. which was good. it meant that they were probably here to help water all these plants. "yes... i'm supposed to water these berries." holding up the now full pail of water they dumped some of it on another one of the dry plants, the psyduck staring at the new person that had shown up to help. as psyducks often did.
