"That's good. Being accessible is important." Bill and Gavin entered the electronics store. They had such an aura of casual command that the only remaining person, the owner, fled thankfully into the back room.

Code and garbled errors filled the screens around them. It reminded Bill of the time his office Rotom had been infected with Pokerus.
 "I have long thought that a mayor or a leader should be isolated, so that they can get more work done. But that contradicts the point of a leader." He sent out his own Porygon, which hung in the air, its limbs rotating, frictionless in their simulated sockets.

"If you are a leader of the people. How can you lead people you never meet? Never talk to? Blind leadership may be more efficient, but it is neither ethical, nor what the public is paying you for."

Red Route

SYMPATHY IN ACTION

The waters shimmer. Subtle. Slick.

Something stirs the depths, drawing it out with the rising tide. The combined SURF sends ripples through the underground chamber, not so much a knock at the monster’s door as it is a wrecking ball. The three– , , and – lay washed up on an ash-gray sandbar, exhausted, the weight of their markings seething beneath their skin.

There is no safety. There is no respite. There is only action and reaction, ebb and flow, danger and danger and danger and death.

It spreads like ink with a thousand eyes–the sticky, nerve-ending fingers of an enormous hand. The frayed, fanlike digits detach themselves from the liquid and wrap around , drawn to the filthy ink on his body. They engulf his head in strings of tar, trapping air, trapping breath.

will suffocate in 1 turn.
feels the movement in her throat, an echo of flexing fingers. The viscous drops she swallowed seem to flutter as if they, too, are somehow connected to the monster below. She will find her windpipe partially obstructed by this putrid ooze, as will , whose still-burning throat seems to deeply aggravate the inky fluid. The acrid smoke in his lungs mingles uneasily with the liquid.

Washed up on the same sandbar as Doug and Eris, is curiously spared by the monstrous, consuming hand. The Tome in their hands shudders as if gasping for air, flipping itself open to a PAGE.

SIX DEMONS

Inside the Beast dwells Six Demons, which must be bound and broken…

The signatures of long-dead scribes decorate these pages in a bloodstained contract, signed by men and women consigned to certain doom. Six, by six, by six. One name to bind each Demon. Six bonds to be broken.

Sympathy in Action.

And ACTION is required.

To progress, each character must form a CONNECTION to one of the Six Demons. This may be conscious or unconscious on the part of the character. You are in the right place at the right time. The world has put you here for a reason. This is the will of Arceus. This is the will of GOD.
SACRIFICE IS INEVITABLE

Sand the color of charred bone shifts begins to stir beneath the feet of and , ugly with age. It sucks at their feet and ankles, binding them to the sandbar in heavy cuffs of cold, crumbling dust. There is no time. There never is.

You have never been alone down here.

Only the tree stands unaffected. It rises from the mire with the sureness of solitude, its pungent, flammable berries dangling perfectly within reach of ’s fingers. Beside him on the shore, and are rocked by jostling figures that form from the wet gravel, cretinous, raptorial. They attack with claws of bone and ash, bodies of the entombed returning to haunt those who disturbed the sacred Crypts.

Somewhere in the wrath of sand, a tiny red shovel bobs.

    Have been running the YMCA raid, which is filled will non-canon characters, which I hope will give many people nightmares trauma juicy plots to work with once it concludes. 

    Also pushing the search for Arceus plot with , , , and , where we are looking for evidence of the creator in deep space.

  • any notes/comments: With the raid taking up all of my time, plots have been pretty slack on Zac this time around. As such, I'm going to be dropping him from the gym roster in the very near future.

    Between the Biome Contests and the HST, half the site has the Biome Badge, so I don't feel like people are missing out there, but I don't feel like I'm keeping up any sort of throughput with challenges, nor do I NEED to be a gym leader to hold Biome Contests in the future!

Red Route

Two metal paths. One up, to safety, and the other downward, following the monster.
Lose something in the lake (two dozen)
Nobody turns back.

ANCIENT CISTERN

Beneath the hole is a thirty foot drop through the blackness, landing in a lake of viscous liquid. The depth is unknown, and nobody can touch the bottom, even at the edges of the cavern. 

and have lost the ability to swim.

Though impossible to tell in the dark, the lake shines with a thousand colors, a collection of thick liquids that refuse to mix fully. The cavern is silent, aside from the sound of your splashing, and the dripping of liquid from the ceiling, down through the rock and sand high above. 

Rising from the waters of the ancient cistern are low sandbanks. Some hug the sharp, sloping walls of the oval cavern, and others rise at random from the waters. In the center of the lake is a thin, wiry tree, with plump fruit hanging from the branches. 

The monster is nowhere to be seen, but everyone feels the pull of something moving below the surface of the water.

  , , , , and will feel this tug more strongly, at about the strength of someone pulling on their arm. It is difficult to ignore, and will make swimming without assistance a challenge.

Below are the chosen consequences and boons from the signup, collapsed for brevity. When completed, they will be blacked out. Some of these will link directly to story events, and will be mentioned in the mod post (for example the inability to swim, or the monster's magnetism) others will be entirely up to you to fulfil (for example the bonds, or losing faith).

Yonder, the Monster's
Cave Awaits


ZERO RED ROUTE SEVEN

As the cliffs shatter and tumble, the remaining six rush for the safety of the alcoves and the fresh gaps in the walls. They split into two groups of three: , and on one side, and , , and on the other.

The black chunks from the monster stick fast to any that touch (or eat) them, and there are four flashes of dark light as curious or unlucky Pokemon revert to earlier forms.

's Sylveon has devolved into an Eevee.
's Liligant has devolved into a Petilil.
's Drifblim has devolved into a Drifloon.
's Klefki has turned into an Egg.

Red Total over 5500 - Magnets

is the first to realize the cold truth about their spreading injuries. "I think it can track us with these marks," he says to Eris and Doug, and the trio feel suddenly very vulnerable in the shattered cliffs, where every shadow could crack open to reveal a thousand hungry eyes. 

But this sword of Damocles cuts two ways, and a second realization comes quick to the Red Augur. “But maybe we can do the same.” The trio set off into the walls, using the subcutaneous tugging to follow the path of the monster. 

On the other side, Chu-E, Gavin, and Kano each have a familiar face to guide them: Bill. Not the man himself, but the golden figurines, now crawling with dark ichor. The movements of the monster tug at the figures, pulling the group towards a crack in the wall. 


Red Total over 6000 - Threshold

As the groups track the creature through razor-sharp caverns, they find tracks. Chunks of blackness, claw marks in the stone, and metal plates, bolted deep into the wall and carved with a symbol that only will find familiar.

A perfect circle, bisected vertically by a single line. Rubedo.

The metal plates and the symbols grow more regular, acting as trail markers as the two groups converge at last upon a sandstone room built into the cliffs. The groups enter from different sides.

Two great metal disks are set into the sandstone, one into the floor, and one into the ceiling. The disk set into the ceiling is rusted shut, but not sealed, and will open with enough force.

It connects to the outside. 

Red Route has discovered an Escape. Anyone taking the path upwards will safely leave the raid.

The other disk, the one set into the floor, has been torn out of its hole. It sits askew, and the sandstone around it has been gouged and ripped by great claws. The beast has been this way, and has escaped downwards. 

Red Route has located the Threshold. Beyond this lies the boss, and the end of Red Route.

Red Route Conclusion Signups 


THREE WHITE ROUTE ZERO

The lanterns burst to light, their ghostly glow growing bright in the presence of the living. If , , , or stay too long, they will feel it start to sap their warmth.

Four down. Five remaining. 

And while the inner four were close together, the others are scattered deeper in the twisted forest, and the creature is more wary now. 

's Future Sight catches a glimpse of Meowstic as it nears the Western outer lanterns. It's in a reading nook, set into the corner where two shelves meet. An ancient chair, overstuffed and under-dusted, is a helpful footstool up to the high lantern.

The same metal plate is bolted to one of the shelves, and etched into the metal is the same set of wavy lines. Candle clutched in its paw, the Pokemon reaches out.

And the darkness above opens, revealing a thousand wide eyes. 

Without the Future Sight, Meowstic would have been in grave peril, but the psychic snapshot of the danger to come saves the cat. Now it has a fighting chance.

's Meowstic must overcome or outsmart the beast to light the lantern. Please pick one of the following prompts in your post:
  • Meowstic succeeds, at no cost (+10 White)
  • Meowstic succeeds, but the monster grows stronger (+30 White)
  • Meowstic fails (+50 White)


White Total over 6500 - Pangur Ban

"Not fire or light. Radiance," Pangur says to before he departs. "Holy light. Drawn from faith, and ancient power. That's how you hold the monster back, though we must complete the ritual to truly banish it."

Pangur reaches out and touches one of the pieces of Absol's shattered horn with his paw. Some of Pangur's Radiance flows into the shard. "Here. This should keep it at bay, at least once."

has acquired a Radiant Shard. It is a powerful defense against the monster, though the light inside will weaken with each use.
 
White Total over 7000 - Luminous Threads


"The outer lanterns are at the edge of the woods,"
Pangur says. "But the monster is watching now. Waiting for you to draw near." He touches the Destiny Bond too, and his light spreads along the yarn. The thread splits, too, forming a trio of glowing paths through the archives. 

One thread spools away past and the stuck , straight into a cruel tangle of sharp branches. They can see the glint of metal on the other side. 

A second runs past and , over the shattered bookcases and into the depths, following the path of the monster's retreat. Was it expecting them to follow?

The third glowing thread shines brightly on  and . It leads straight up, slicing through the smoky air and wrapping around the base of the last lantern, in a distant alcove high above them. 

"Once the outer three are lit, there will be only one left."

White route prompts

  • Distract the monster so someone else can light a lantern (+30 White)
  • Light a lantern at great cost (+30 White)
  • Trigger a trap laid by the monster (+30 White)

ONE BLACK ROUTE TWO

's Cursola swells with stolen power, as the strength of the crowding Tentacool is sapped away. The pale jellyfish hang limply in the water before they are slashed and blasted away by 's Weavile and 's newly re-hatched Radiant Shuppet.

Musharna shudders at Claydol's transformation before it tries to repair the damaged boat with a Healing Wish. The wish is granted in a somewhat mundane way, as seals the bottom of the boat with a Protect from his Magnemite. The trio watch the dark waters slide past through the transparent barrier as their boat safely follows the angel across the water of the lake.

Glittering strands of sticky string hang from the cavern ceiling, jiggling with movement as some of the pale Butterfree get caught in the lines. The angel passes straight through the trap, heading for land. 

Rising from the middle of the lake is a pyramid of dark glass, built on the shores of a small, rocky island. recognizes it as the black mountain from his Future Sight vision. The pair of boats pull up at the waiting dock, and the remaining five crunch across the gravel on their way towards the pyramid.


Black Total over 4500  - Laboratory


The pyramid is several stories tall, and covered in mirrored panels that reflect the dark lake, though some of the glass has been shattered from within. There is a flash of light as the angel passes right through the glass on the top floor of the building, disappearing inside. 

Through the shattered glass, most of the five can see a laboratory. There are rows of tangled glassware set up on tables, and rubber tubes filled with ancient titrates snake the length of the floor. There are alcoves with smelly stone bowls, half-full plastic buckets, and endless filing cabinets filled with alchemical reagents, preserved Pokemon parts, and bundles of herbs.

The whole place feels like a wizard meth lab. 

The stairs upward are blocked. By string. Endless tangles of web and the same, discarded paper as you encountered on the docks fills the staircase. Anything coming into contact with the string will stick fast.  


Black Total over 5000 - Seismo no mo'

Out on the docks to the laboratory island, the thing that used to be Seismo breaks down, discarding any vestiges of the clay Pokemon it once was. Fresh, wet eyes peel open, and the mass of blackness hangs over the water ominously, watching the laboratory and the angel within.

  • Commit a crime (+10 Black)
  • Get stuck in the string (+20 Black)

SEVEN DETOUR NINE

Chryssa finds herself at the fourth door, with an answer for the riddle. 

What has three locks, and no key? "A human face," Chryssa answers.



To lock eyes with a stranger, lovers and friends.

To lock jaws with a monster, no stranger to sin.

To lock lips with a lover, and monster within.


The inky face of sits on the metal of the fourth door, a silhouette cast in cold iron. The lids part, and the eyes lock with hers.

Muir, her transformed sword, slides into the keyhole, and as she twists the rod clockwise there is a click from deep within. Then another. Loud, banging clicks that echo through her staff and up into her arm. The symbol of Arceus on the iron door rattles and cracks, splitting four ways along the diagonal cuts, and her inky visage scatters as the pieces of the door retreat into the wall.

Beyond the iron door is a pane of glass, crawling with backwards letters. It presses up against where the door just was, bent and watching. And as she watches back, the letters don't slow, instead only coming harder and faster, obscuring what lies beyond.

This isn't another barrier, but another world, trapped behind a gate of understanding.

And Chryssa understands. 

Chryssa steps forward, and through the threshold dividing the worlds. 

Chryssa has crossed the Threshold.

Faith: The belief that someone or something knows more than you do. In this case, the belief that had found a way to bend the rules of Avatarship. A loophole in the bindings of power.

Being an Avatar meant forging a sacred bond between one person and one legendary. Except, that wasn't quite true. There were always exceptions. was the avatar for one and a half legendaries, and Darkrai was the avatar for both
Declan Walsh and . The mechanics were unclear, and inconsistent.  

It's not easy to find loopholes when you don't know the rules. But if you can't finesse an answer, then it's time for brute force and sheer numbers.

Bill looked around at the room full of willing test subjects.
For the glory of Team Rocket indeed. That's what I love about grunts. Always so eager.

RESULTS

quenches the fire in 's throat, but the feeling of burning, crackling flesh remains. Chu-e spits up smoky phlegm and blackened blood, along with some wet chunks of berry. They smolder on the sand.


The beast lunges for and shoves the woman out of harm's way. Kaida's Shinx Howls, filling the pair with determination and bending the light strangely, so that it curves through the shelves and lower branches. Luka opens her mouth and her voice grows of its own accord, crackling and spreading, a howl of her own that becomes a roar. A searing, burning scream.

The light at the end of the tunnel pours from her mouth, and the creature recoils, its eyes bubbling and smoking. It flees into the trees.


is not one to give up. Ever. With the charging Tentacruel devolved into a Tentacool, the threat is gone. The rubbery menace bumps into the side of the boat, jostling it slightly. He silently asks for help, and she doesn't let him down.

Roar of Time rattles the wood, reversing the aging and healing the hole in the vessel. In moments they are sitting in a boat that looks just like it did thirty years ago. The lacquered wood feels cool and sturdy underneath them.

has repaired the boat, increasing its capacity from three to four.
The unfathomable sound spreads across the water, as do its effects. Wrecks, smashed upon the pillars of black glass, revert to their former glory as Katherine and Kyle float past. Dinghies, longboats, and even a pirate ship, all reassemble, though once the pair float far enough away, the effects will begin to decay.

Yearning Monster,
Cut Asunder


RED ROUTE

hurls himself at the monster, mouth full of acid and fury. He closes the distance in an instant and tears into the dark, sludgy mass with his obsidian claws, ripping through its rubbery skin to dig at the flesh underneath. He gouges deep chunks out of the beast, carving out pounds of wriggling flesh that fall to the sand below. 

The creature's blood is thicker than tar, and the viscous goo splatters Chu-e, painting his arms, chest, and face with glistening globs that burn and wriggle with a life of their own. Flecks of the monster get into Chu-e's mouth, mixing with the remnants of the half-chewed berry.

The effect is instantaneous.

As the living blood of the monster combines with the acid, the volatile components react, igniting and filling Chu-e's mouth with crimson flame. Acrid smoke fills his nose, throat, and eyes, billowing out in sour clouds. 

is choking on smoke and fire. If not assisted in the next 48 hours he will suffer a major injury.

Walls of stone crack and shatter as soars towards his target. ''Don't stop! I want its zero eight one," he shouts, flying straight towards the wounded mass, cane outstretched like a shattered lance. 

Andy's aim is true, and his cane pierces deep into one of the creature eyes, popping the bulbous mass like an overripe grape and spraying the ground with two three five. Andy is splattered in the pale jelly, but any gross side effects are secondary to his one and only goal: Revenge.

The creature thrashes with brutal, twisted limbs and phantom jaws, tearing at Andy and his Gengars.

A crimson thread shoots from Lilith's body, connecting with the creature and binding their destinies together. 's Drifblim follows suit, joining itself to the beast with a red string, slung between the pair like a loose vein.

From the ground beside her burning father, ' flames leap high into the sky, roasting the beast's wounds. Molten blackness stains the ground around her, covering Eris and Turtonator in crawling soot.

Shadow Balls and a trio of frantic bullets slam into the creature, carving deeper into the great gouges left by Chu-e and Eris. What had once been a single mass of eyes and darkness begins to tear in two.

's Voltorb pinballs up the cliffs and lodges itself deep in the sticky mass of the monster. The monster closes around her Pokemon, consuming it in the spreading tar of its malformed body.

"Hajime, nice knowing but this is it for you. Hajime use SEVEN ZERO NINE!" shouts , and for a second the crypts are still. 

The suicidal blast tears the creature in half, ripping it into ragged hemispheres that splat against the cliff walls. 


Red Total over 4500 - Split


The parts hit the ground and, now divided, act independently.

One half presses itself into the shattered walls, black ooze squeezing into the growing cracks as it drags it wounded form back into the cliffs. 

's Drifblim is tied to this half, and the connection pulls it towards the shattered cliffs—however, the huge balloon can't fit through the hole in the wall.

The other half of the monster, still tied to Lilith and stabbed by Andy, seeks a faster escape. Space tears around them and Andy feels a rapid, lurching jump as the group of them Teleport out of the crypts.

, his Gengars, and the torn monster land in a thrashing pile, half-buried in the rubble of the shattered church. With a cruel sweep the creature tears through Lilith, severing their connection. A chunk of dark flesh sloughs off from the beast, staining the ground like congealed ink, and threeing the zero, too.

The black mass of eyes and flesh squirms and swells. Its remaining eyes swivel to Andy, but its form stretches like pulled taffy as a strange music yanks the creature away, drawing it back downwards.

Andy is left in the rubble with his remaining Gengar, and the wounds of his revenge.

has left the raid.


Red Total over 5000 - Metal


Chunks of the monster litter the sand, which has mercifully stopped rising. The black, wriggling clumps move with some remaining sentience, drawn together into three distinct piles. Even the sprayed ichor seems to defy time and gravity as it flows upwards and around corners to rejoin the other parts of the monster. 
Anyone who digs into the piles will find one of 's fired bullets. 

These monstrous pieces shift and swell slightly, as if waiting to be drawn back into the rest of their mass. They are eyeless and inert.

The earthquakes and explosions are taking their toll, and the crypts begin to collapse. Massive chunks of wall and cavern roof collapse, falling in razor chunks like doomsday rain. 

Fissures burst up the walls, widening to cracked, claustrophobic passages leading into darkness. As the world comes down around you, even tenuous safety must be embraced.

Red route prompts
  • Use one of the chunks to devolve a Pokemon (+30 Red)
  • Track the beast through the walls (+10 Red)
  • Help put Chu-e out (+10 Red)
  • Find a safe place in the caves and regroup (+10 Red)
  • Discover the magnetic qualities of the monster's blood (+10 Red)

WHITE ROUTE

At Luka's suggestion, CHRYSSA GLASGOW leaves her alone. The pale augur begins to sing from her book, her voice rising like thickened milk to fill the space between the trees. The notes are thin, sharp, and with a strange, cutting cadence.

Fallen walls and open doors
We are not bound anymore
We must follow when He calls
Through open doors and fallen walls

A glowing line splits the air in front of her, and widens like a gasping throat. Through it Luka can see shelves, stretching into darkness. Kaida joins her, assisted by her fading Houndoom. The dog has heard the sour notes of Perish Song, and won't survive much longer.

's Destiny Bond seeks Pangur. The thread slinks through the trees, winding upwards into the wild tangle of branches. Then, it doubles back, twists around a tree, and then surges straight upwards, towards the glimmer of orange and purple, and the spreading smoke.

Perish Song's influence hits those that were not returned, and CHRYSSA GLASGOW's Espurr falls mid-flight, bumping into one of the trees and coming to rest on the ground. Houndoom staggers, and the red thread quivers and snaps as she too goes unconscious. 's egg hits the ground, but the Protection holds. It wobbles to a stop. And then shakes again. It's close to hatching, but there's no time to coax it out gently.

's egg is ready to hatch. See the Prompts section for more details.

Snakes fall from the branches, their thick bodies hitting the ground around the portal. Perish Song's grim work is done.

The group steel themselves, and step through the entrance.


White Total over 5500 - Bonds


The crimson string of Destiny Bond wends through the forest, encircling trees and slipping between boughs, as it follows the path of Pangur. It slides past , as he and his Pokemon try to soothe the boy's injury. As the infection in his arm spreads, the string moves on, never tangling as it weaves onwards.

Melody cradles the unconscious Cobalion as the red thread passes by. Lost and blinded, she waits to see if her gamble pays off. She bet it all on Blue, and if the Healing Wish fails then she'll be down to just a single Pokemon.

Dawn breaks in Cobalion's eyes, and the creature takes a deep breath.

Cobalion is healed.

The thread winds on, circling and soaking up some of her healing rain. As she looks for a sign, it moves onward, upward, towards the flickering lights overhead. 

has followed the strange smoke deep into the treetops, and the thread passes him last. His Absol is crouched at the ready, and sees the streak of red slither through the leaves. There is no sense of doom here, only a hint at safety, as the Destiny Bond climbs the trunk of one of the trees, towards the lights.


White Total over 6000 - The Other Side


Those the follow the thread up through the branches find a space atop the trees. The flicking light comes from dozens of floating Litwick, who fill the air with censer smoke and Autumn light.

Pangur is there too, waiting. He sits nearby, waiting, his tail flicking restlessly and his eyes full of cold stars. 



He yawns, and then speaks, in a voice that is unnervingly familiar.

"You followed," says Pangur. "That is good. We do not have much time. Catch one of the candles. We need them to light the lanterns below. There are nine, of course, each one— "

Something vast and terrifying passes through the forest beneath them. Cardamom's Absol is ready, attuned to the passage of disaster and on the lookout for threats. It moves to protect Cardamom, horn humming in a low warning. Strange notes drift up from the forest below, and the Litwick dim above them.

"It's here. Hurry. We need to light the lanterns. Look for the symbol in the forest. A wavy line. It will be carved into metal. Go!"

The resonance in Absol's horn grows, and it shudders like a struck tuning fork. The shadows lengthen until, with a crash of ringing bone, Absol's horn shatters, bursting as the oncoming disaster comes to bear.

Absol's horn has shattered, but the power to foretell disaster still remains. The shards will shudder and hum when danger is near.

As and pass through the space between spaces, something vast brushes against them. A dark, tangled mind, drawn to the disturbance in reality like a dog to a dinner bell.

Luka and Kaida step out the other side of the portal, bringing the monster with them.

The pale gate stretches as the torn, ragged bulk of the beast forces itself through into this forgotten corner of the library, trailing sandy debris and dark blood. It lunges for Luka's throat with fangs made to tear reality.

The monster is attacking and  . Unless one of them posts within 48 hours they will both suffer Major Injuries.

White route prompts

  • Catch one of the Litwick (+5 White
  • Find the wavy symbol (+1 White)
  • Light one of the nine lanterns (+8 White)
  • Discover the magnetic properties of your infection (+3 White)
  • Trust Pangur (+5 White)
  • Make a logical deduction about the monster (+3 White)

BLACK ROUTE

With portals open along the canals, blind is the first to act. His Magnemite floats out over the water, setting up a protective barrier alongside one of the portals. The boat scrapes along the glimmering shield, dragged away from the rift and towards fresh danger by the fast-moving current. 

' Snorunt skates around the portal, freezing the water and securing a safe passage for the trio. But the slippery ice offers no traction, and the pull of the portal proves too much. With wide eyes, the Snorunt is sucked through into the waterfall on the far side. 

Mars's Snorunt has been lost through a canal portal.

The last of the canal portals yawns wider, but 's Accelgor swings their boat clear with its enhanced strength. There is little time for celebration though, as the boulder it used for leverage is sucked clean into the portal. As they pass close to the hole in space, Oscar catches a glimpse of the rock falling, falling, and finally smashing to dust on a rough crag many hundred feet below. 

Between ' hefty Cursola, 's floating Magnemite, 's beefed up Accelgor, and the brief appearance of a projectile Snorunt, their boat can't take it anymore. The old wood cracks underfoot, and one of Oscar's legs goes straight through into the water underneath. The boat bucks as dank water flows up into their vessel.

The boat of Mars, Aaron and Oscar is sinking.

As the boat rocks and takes on water, Aaron feels the heartbeat of his ghost growing stronger, a rhythmic,  steady knocking coming from within his marked egg.

It shudders, and there is a CRACK as a hairline fracture zig-zags across the top. Sensing freedom, the creature inside throws itself against the pale walls, shaking the egg violently from within.

's egg is ready to hatch.  See the Prompts section for more details.

In the other boat, and navigate between the portals using a combination of powerful gamer muscle and gravity distortion. As they skirt around the third portal however, something moves underneath them, jostling one of the oars and throwing off Kyle's strokes. The oar swings into the portal and is cut in half

The addition of a second dog proves too much for the boat, and the substitute breaks through the bottom of the boat. Brackish water flows into their vessel.

The boat of Kyle and Katherine is sinking.
 
Black Total over 3500  - Swarm


As water flows into the two boats, a swarm of Tentacool are drawn to the vessels. They excrete Toxic ooze which turns the water an acrid purple. Several of them are fascinated by Kyle's other oar and they grab it with their thick tentacles, scooting towards his Champion hands.

But something much larger than a Tentacool is in the lake.

The commotion of the babies calls a humongous mother Tentacruel. Her gaze locks on to 's Mightyena, and a bow wave builds across the glassy water as she charges their sinking boat.

The Tentacruel is charging and 's boat. Unless they both post in 48 hours their vessel will be destroyed.

Back on the docks, Rowan and Adrian beat a cautious retreat, disappearing through the portal and back into the safety of the Ever Grande sunshine. 

Rowan and Adrian have safely left the raid.

Adrian's Xatu stays, watching from the docks, wide eyes looking to the future as out over the water, Seismo's form continues to shift. Its eyes roll back into its darkened body before snapping back, all of them trained on the angel that is leading them.


Black Total over 4000 - Scales


The glowing figure has made quite a lead due to the portals, but as they clear the canals, the waterlogged boats skull across the water of a wide, underground lake. Juts of dark glass spear up from the water, and the glittering angel soars between them, never stopping to rest. Instead it leads them onwards, ever deeper into the smugglers' lair.

Specks drop from the angel's wings, landing on the water without leaving ripples. They are tiny, but glow with a self-held luminance that makes them easy to spot, like drops of fresh foam floating on ancient coffee. They bear a striking resemblance to Devolution Stones.

As the boats follow in the wake of the angel, they may be able to close the distance, and follow to its destination, if they can avoid sinking.

The chill of the sublime.

Of the unknown.

Equal parts breathtaking as it is terrifying.

The Universe.

The eternal wheel, spinning with aching, crushing constancy. Bill's eyes went wide.

He double checked the coordinates. They were identical to the ones reported at the Mossdeep Space Center so many years ago. Bill checked again, comparing the reading to his memory.

The cold truth of the blinking digits was clear: God had moved.

So where was Arceus? If He was still there then the Deep Interstellar Luminance Field would have shown the same beacon of light, clear as day.

"He has moved," Bill stated. "Or will move, depending on when exactly Espeon showed us." Bill looked at the Pokemon, before turning back to the swirling image of stars in front of him.

He stood still, silent, pondering. He was no stranger to big question, and didn't shy away from these new mysteries. "Why did He move?" Bill asked in a reverent whisper. "When did Arceus leave his resting spot."

"Where is He going?"

Calls Attention

BLACK ROUTE

As the boats pull away from the dock, leaving and stranded, the mood grows dark.

's heart and mind cry out for an escape from this place, and against all odds his Xatu manifests a portal right in front of them. Through it, he can see a twisting image of the outside world. The bright light and noble facades of Ever Grande city, and splashes of bright graffiti spelling out a string of numerals. Zero seven three, followed by a comma. Two three five, followed by curt, slashing hyphen, and another pair of triplets. First, seven nine and five, another comma, and then the final triplet of three zero and two.

It's a way out. Perhaps it would lead to a hint for a later round. 

has found an Escape Portal. Anyone on Black Route can use this portal to safely escape the raid.

This portal will close at the end of the round.

The five people crammed into their boats see the portal open behind them, and can clearly see the sunshine streaming from the other side.

Safely on board,  clutches his prize: an Enigma berry. The information he gleaned from his tome told him it would be important, and it is, but one thing he couldn't have expected was the itching

The scratch from the Enigma berry tree, though healed, burns with a powerful itch, as if the acid from the berry got under his skin. The cut intersects with the mark he received from the book, and the burning mingles with his Augur mark. The inky infection spreads, moving like spilled oil underneath his skin, all the while burning like intravenous flames.

The boats rock as they drift downriver and the blinded clutches his Egg. He feels a strong heartbeat, and strange sounds coming from within.

Being blinded, what Aaron doesn't notice is that his Egg looks different. Thin, black lines swirl across the creamy shell, forming strange patterns full of double-backs and pseudo letters.

's Egg bears the same strange markings, though much less pronounced. His Egg also lacks the strong heartbeat. It shows no signs of being ready to hatch. He will need to cuddle it more.

Black Total over 3000  - Thinking with Portals

As the boats continue downriver, following the floating, changing shape of 's Claydol, they will see that the passage ahead thins to a series of shipping channels. Pale Tentacool bob under the surface of the murky water.

Above these canals, another portal opens, and from within emerges an Angel. Blinding white light obscures the creature's true form, and it soars away, further down the canal. 

As the two boats follow the Angel, more twisting portals form in the water around and ahead of them. Half submerged in the brackish stream, water pours through these holes in space, forming rogue currents that suck the boats towards them. 

Unlike the portal on the dock, which leads to safety, the canal portals spell only disaster.  's keen, gamer eyes catch flashes of crashing waterfalls, and jagged rocks on the other side of these portals. One of them even shows a bird's eye view of Ever Grande, with the other side opening up many miles above the city.

The boats tip, pulled towards the yawning portals. The people within must take quick action or else their vessels will carry them to disaster.

Black route prompts

  • Have a Pokemon fall through a portal (+50 Black)
  • Find something in your boat that was left by smugglers (+10 Black)
  • Put your boat over capacity (+10 Black)


WHITE ROUTE

White Total over 5000 - It's Polite to Bough

leads the chase for the Persian, with  and not far behind. The trio clamber upwards and into the twisted branches. The world is dark here, cramped with dense boughs that press in from all sides. Pangur slips nimbly through the foliage, a pale panther in its home forest, but those that follow will have significant difficulty passing through.

It is easy to get lost in the branches. 

As they follow the cat upwards the smell of smoke gets stronger, and ash drifts down like gray snow. As they near the peak of the trees, they catch glimpses of orange and purple light flickering through gaps in the foliage.  

starts to follow Pangur, but the allure of the mysterious berries pulls her astray. Her Onix forms a stony bridge towards the fruit, but a dark coil finds her first, and yanks her off balance. She falls fast, and is impaled on the branches below.

Underneath, Melody's Protect shelters the singer from her Pokemon, keeping them at bay as her own serpent winds closer. "It is such a mysterious place, the land of tears," whispers the snake, wafts of sweet poison drifting from its mouth. "There is sadness in these woods, but you cannot see it. You must look with your heart." 

The serpent spits in Melody's face. Venom and bitter blood fill her eyes, and she gets her wish. 

is now blinded. She is now innately drawn to sources of sadness, longing, and loss. 
Kricketune's jagged notes punctuate Kaida's tragedy, the sawing notes cutting at the ears of those present.  's reaches up with her Honedge, and the inky shield of its Hidden Power strips the branches impaling Kaida.

Her prize clutched in her hand, the woman is lowered to the ground without further harm. Her abdomen and right leg are pierced by several finger-sized splinters, each driven deep into her flesh by the fall. The wounds all ooze the same foul, dark corruption.

has multiple, deep wounds to her body. She will require constant assistance to walk or stand, even after the wounds are healed.

 does what she can to heal Kaida. The deep wounds heal over, but the infection remains, as does the pain.  

Nursing her own injuries, Luka returns her attention to the tome. There is much to see, from the repeating circular symbol, to the loose pages stuffed between forgotten music. One section in particular calls to her, and she finds the words floating from her mouth. Uncalled and indecipherable, the lyrics twist like willowing mist against her tongue as she calls for the cat.

Pangur is gone, but the song continues, the ancient words and unfamiliar sounds mixing with 's Perish Song in a cursed concerto that fills the lower boughs of the dream forest. 

's Cobalion and Hatterene,  's Honedge, Espurr, and Kricketune, 's Onix and Houndoom, and 's Shinx, Musharna, and Hatterene are all affected by Perish Song. 

They will faint at the start of next round if they have not already fainted or been returned before then.
Guarded by Houndoom, the surface of 's Egg crawls with dark, inky markings. A pattern forms, circling and slicing again and again.

White route prompts

  • Do not return a Pokemon affected by Perish Song (+20 White/per
  • Get lost in the upper branches (+20 White)
  • Notice strange markings on the trees (+10 White)


RED ROUTE

is the first to see the sand monsters, and the first to respond. They are dispatched indelicately with another Explosion that rocks the cliffs and sprays , @hades , and with burning shrapnel. 

The crypts shudder, and  , and duck into the maze of twisting alcoves, avoiding the worst of the damage just as adds to the mayhem with an Explosion of his own. 

is thrown into the wall, smashing more of the urns and suffering deep cuts to his back, sides, and backside. Inside one of the broken urns he finds a dried berry. Shriveled and long ago drained of its juice, it looks like it was preserved in the ashes of one of the priests. 


Red Total over 3500 - Pounding Sand


The aftershocks of the Explosions rock the crypts for far longer than they should, and the sandy ground surges upwards in response, sucking and pulling at the feet and ankles of , @hades , , and

The ground beneath them shudders and the gray sand surges upwards, forming into another grasping fist, which engulfs @hades .

This time, unlike with Kyle, there is no safe exit.

With sickening strength, the sand compacts around Atticus, crushing the man with fatal force. With one final twist his body is broken, and his pulverized corpse is pulled down into the now rising sand. 

@hades is dead.

The toppled is too slow, and as he tries to float away from the monsters, their hammers come down. Arms of stone break and bash the boy, and his Gengars barely manage to pull him away from the pummeling and out over the water where the sand cannot follow. 

has sustained a major injury. Please pick from the following options:
  • Your jaw is broken, smile caved in. You taste blood and can't speak coherently. (+20 Red each round)
  • Your dominant arm is shattered, your dexterity is ruined. (+30 Red once a round for failing a manual action with your other arm)

Wounded, yet floating, he reaches the tree in the middle of the oily lake. Gastly chomps down on one of the berries, but with every great gain comes a cost, and as the ghostly mouth closes around the Enigma berry there is a flash of white light and a soft pop. Gravity takes hold, and Epitaph the Egg falls towards the lake.

Above him, the shifting sands part to reveal a passage into the scorched crypts. This passage will close at the end of next round. 

Red Total over 4000 - It is Watching

, , and feel the shuddering through the walls. The sandy floor rises underneath them, and there is a creeping sensation that they are being watched. 

But it isn't coming from the portraits of , , , and

A shifting mass of black moves in the shadows above them. 

A thousand milky eyes open. 


The monster has reappeared


Dislodging itself from the darkness, it clambers between the jagged cliffs like a tumorous spider, strange limbs twisting and sticking as it descends towards the trio. 

Phantom jaws rend the air, opening wide around Doug's Mankey, Eris's Delphox, and Locke's Absol. 

Unless saved by someone in Red Route, these Pokemon will faint in 72 hours.

  • Attack the monster recklessly (+20 Red)
  • Use Destiny Bond on the monster (+10 Red)
  • Save one of the targeted Pokemon (+10 Red)
