"No, you've got to help me. There's a dead body under the boardwalk!"

Palossand reappeared, and disgorged a duffel bag onto the sand. Bill picked it up and doubled back, stepping fast and light as he approached the port-authority. He slipped inside the now deserted outpost, and dumped out the bag, covering the floor of the place in explosives straight from the Rocket armory.

Confident in his colleagues, Bill rifled through some papers, purloined a few badges, and picked up a set of important looking keys, before leaving through the back door.

"Great work. Voltorbs down. It's all yours," Bill said to Tempest Quinn and ryuuzaki amemiya, as he disappeared into the crowded streets of the Slateport waterfront.

All they needed to do now was to crash a boat into the building so that the explosion looked like an accident. He'd be waiting with a finger on the detonator.

Once he was in he slammed the door shut, finally safe from the outside world.

Bill didn't know.

"Know what?" he asked, voice lowering. Ice clinked against the side of his glass, unbearably loud in the tense silence that could only be a prelude to tragedy.

"Claude. What happened to Leanna?"

"No I'm here on business," Bill lied, as easily as breathing.

The Machamp pressed four firm hands into Bill's back and he melted like Sootopolis gelato in the sun. He let out a very un-councilman-like noise. "And there is no better way to spend a few hours-" Machamp oiled his hands and ran two of them down Bill's back, cracking it as he went "-than getting loosened up by a professional."

"Oh I don't know about that Chryssa. If they had seen all there there was to see already then why would they still be looking?" He smiled, keeping the secret of the Mossdeep Detection to himself for now.

Within Rocket it was only himself and Lulu who were aware of what had been seen between the stars all those years ago, and even then only he had seen it with his own eyes. There had been others, Admins and Underbosses, but they changed as often as the tides that often took them.

"Third floor? Well let's go then," Bill said, leading the way up the sweeping stairs and towards the viewing telescope.

Outside of Rocket one woman had survived the scrubbing of Mossdeep: Abigail. It had been her discovery after all, but she was long gone now, buried as deep as her research.

"Hey Lars," Bill said, wearing only a short towel. He held up a wooden reservation block marked with a big #3, same as the one Lars had. "Looks like we're in the same room."

The massage room opened and Bill got up onto the table, eager for the firm, muscle-pounding massage that only an oiled up Machamp can offer. "This is a bit out of your way, isn't it?" he asked, lying face down on the table.

"Who said anything about televangelism?" Bill asked, eyebrows raising just enough to look convincing. "I'm sure you know enough about Archeus to prothetelies his achievements yourself, if that was your inclination. Don't your parents summer just up the beach from Reverend Footsy?" He made sure to point his feet directly towards Chryssa, as was the traditional stance for addressing a fellow member of the church.

When Bill came to Sinnoh, he had studied under Reverend Footsy for half a year before taking control of the local church. Footsy was an ancient foothsayer, and was most learned in the ways of Archeus. He'd made Bill memorize passages from their holy book: the Toerah, and had taught Bill the sacred practices of Toe Knuckle Bone Reading, Archery, and Faith Heeling.

"Some news is timeless," Bill said. "Would you begrudge the weatherman for telling you each day that the sun is still shining?" He smiled, excitement peeking through his lips.

Bill stepped over the fallen body. "Ah. What a shame. I wasn't sure, but you can't win without making a few mistakes." With his dwindling points he purchased a single Rage Candybar and a can of Lemonade, putting them in the basket of his bike for later.

He took a drink of the Soda Pop, pulled the riddle ticket from the mouth of the door, and settled down in front of it, puzzling over the riddle. Calm Mind. Future Sight. Hopefully the answer would come to him in time.

"I thought that was you, but convinced myself it couldn't be possible," Bill said, grinning at the use of his new title. "You know what they say: seeing is believing. And now that I see you here, Chryssa Glasgow, I can still hardly believe it."

A dozen questions shot through Bill's head. How long had she been in Hoenn? Why was she running a Rocket radio station? Did she have to play so much of Melody Miro 's music? Was it in poor taste to intercut the music with miscellaneous female screams?

He settled on something less inflammatory. "Why haven't you invited me on yet? I'd love to do a little guest spot, if you'd have me."

Lulu Flint and THEO BECKETT approached. Bill knew it was her. Knew those sharp teeth and gleaming eyes. Knew the shape of her throat. "Just the woman I was hoping to see tonight." He nodded in greeting, before an auburn vision with a familiar laugh breezed past them.

"chryssa glasgow ?" Bill asked, using her full, Arceus-given name. His eyes widening in genuine surprise, before a calm, Fatherly smile spread across his face. He opened his arms wide. Not for a hug, but to catch her with his words and gesture. "What a pleasant surprise, and so far from Eterna!"

He reeled in the young woman, introducing her to the high-ranking Rockets. "Friends, meet Chryssa. She was part of my church back in Sinnoh. She has quite the voice." Bill left a sliver of silence, waiting for Theo and Lulu to introduce themselves with their disguised names. It was generally a faux pas to introduce a masked Rocket in public.

The Mossdeep facility buried the greatest discovery they ever made.

Bill watched the stars through the roofless ceiling.

He stared, pale eyes wide with wonder, as the clear, dark night showcased the true gleam of the stars hanging above them. If there was one thing he missed living in Sootopolis it was the stars. The light pollution that filled the basin was entrancing in its own way, but it hid the splendor waiting in the high, deep dark.

As the event was so close to the crater city, and so open to the public, there would surely be dozens of his constituents here. Perhaps Lulu Flint was among them. After all, what place is more fitting than an Astrophysical Observatory for a Rocket Scientist?

He hadn't noticed Lulu in her disguise, though he himself was easy to spot, standing in the dead center of the hall. He would seek her out later, along with familiar faces and high ranking league officials. But for now, Bill was content to watch the stars and think about what lay between them.

"I have some ideas," he said to Katherine Fairburne . "And don't worry, I'm planning on cutting down the pool as quickly as possible." He winked at the woman, walking past her to get two Killer Killing Mach Bikes from the bike rack.

His Musharna floated over, taking a sleeping seat on one of the bikes, steering it with her bloodthirsty dreams of vehicular manslaughter. Or maybe she was dreaming of a ride along the Slateport boardwalk, and someone just happened to get in her way again. Shame.

"Good thing you were wearing those goggles last round," Bill said to MATIAS SILPH . "Otherwise who knows where that bullet would have landed. Gristly business all this, but sometimes to catch a killer you have to shoot a friend in the eye." Bill looked down at the Killer Killing Mach Bike he had in his hands. "Or hit them at high speed." He laughed at the great joke.

Bill and Musharna rode towards the overgrown path. The violent dreams of the psychic Pokemon tore through the vegetation, ripping a new hole through which they could easily ride. Bill let the psychic flow carry him along, whizzing along at well past a safe speed. Hopefully nobody got in his way.
