The parti-colored fish stuck out its too-long tongue, and Milotic reeled back, Flinching. Adding insult to injury? It was just too much for the already wounded Milotic. With a whirl of bloody bubbles she turned and swam hard, trailing red as she sought the deep.

"Astounding," Bill said softly. "I've never viewed a battle from down here before. I'm so happy I had it made. It was like a nature documentary, don't you think?"

Psychic Fangs bit into Milotic's hide, tearing at the serpent. She lashed out, heavy coils of bloodied flesh thrashing the water. As her strength waned, the power of her Flailing only grew. Her stained tail became a scythe of a dozen brilliant panes, cutting down coral, stone, and waves like so much Autumn wheat.

Milotic cried in pain at the attack, her body contorting in agony as the psychic attack tore at her. Though gorgeous, she was barely more than a Feebas, having only evolved a few weeks ago. The creature was far from a seasoned battler. Then again, Bill didn't keep her for her power.

Milotic's huge, serpenting body twisted ans constricted, and it shot a Water Pulse at its vicious opponent.

Misjudged indeed. The Krookodile hasn't been anywhere near the strength of Matias's Pokemon.

"A drink sounds great," Bill said, finally recalling his Pokemon. "I could use a Dr. Pika."

Krookodile was obliterated
Matias wins!

Sand turned to molten glass as the Hyper Beam roared down into the hole. Krookodile disappeared under an avalanche of viscous, glowing liquid.

"The battles are faster than I remember," Bill said.

"Done," Bill said, glad that he could go some way to repairing the shattered reputation of the Anderson name. Krookodile's attack was met with steadfast resistance. Exploud was clearly a powerful combatant.

The Boomblast tore at Krookodile, but the reptile refused to give up. Instead, it dug in its fangs, hunched over, and mauled the ground. In moments there was a decent sized pit, and Krookodile heaved at Exploud, trying to drag it down underground.

Krookodile terrifying markings and long, jagged jaws were nothing short of Intimidating. It opened wide, and with frightening speed it lunged at Exploud, bringing its jaws closed in a bone-shattering Crunch.

Bill reached for a Pokeball, but something made him grab for one of the Rocket Pokemon he had borrowed from the armory. Something about this fight made him want to show off. To see what he had left. He sent out Krookodile.

"She's quite stunning," Bill said earnestly. "Only fitting that I'm following suit then."

Milotic swam into view, appearing like a mirage from behind a bank of crimson coral. Her cream scales shifted and disappeared against the backing of the sand, and she paddled languorously over to the boat. Nearing the viewing basin, she let out a call that was two parts lonesome and one part joy, like a kid missing their parents on summer camp.

She wound around the basin where Melody and Bill stood, encircling them like a jeweled python. Her tail segments were semi-transparent, like long tears of stained glass fused into a fan. The gorgeous coloration caught and held Bill's eye, and he smiled as she passed.

"By all means," he said, bewitched by Milotic's slow movements, "you start."

The match ended, with Bill the victor by trainer elimination. It was unusual, but effective. Well, the lord did work in mysterious ways.

Bill was looking forward to the traditional, after-match chat, but it seemed that Lulu and Cian had other ideas. Were they fighting? Over what? Who had lost harder? "Hopefully you two will find peace in time," Bill said, and he went to get ice cream.

"A battle on deck? No, it's just for a better view." Bill gestured out to the open ocean around them. "The open ocean is a much better arena, but there's no reason for us to be in harms way, right?"

Bill lead Melody under the deck, and down into the cabin. He flicked on a switch, and the opaque walls became transparent, giving a full 360 degree view of the colorful ocean around them.

Bill vs Gavin [H*T]

Screams. Dark rain that sizzles and burns like acid. Bill felt his pristine skin tear and peel. He sent out another Rocket weapon: Venomoth. The broad-winged creature covered him from above, taking the brunt of the shadow rain and Protecting him for as long as it would last.

"There is only one end for stories like this, Gavin," Bill said, his voice as clear as a church bell. The next work was left unsaid, and his Pokemon surged forwards, clashing with their shadowed opponents. Dark Spikes tore at this feet, and the Hurricane of the looming Lugia shoved and tore.

The battle was half-over before it had begun.

But despite the defensive circle, Gavin was still surrounded. Behind him, Krookodile and Feraligatr moved in, clearing the spikes with washes of salt water. Their jaws snapped at the shadow Pokemon, eager to try their strength against their dark brothers.

Decidueye's hooded eyes gleamed, and Spirit Shackles raised from the sand, snaking around the legs of the underboss. A last ditch attempt to secure him for the authorities.
