dahlia makes the time to meet thomas. a proxy could have retrieved the quartz for her, but she decides it is proper if not entirely personal to unite with him in person.

after all, she has caught the razor winds of the report. injury. pokemon death. foul play. still, such words find little effect when compared to the larger tragedies hoenn is saddled with. recent events are like tidepools to oceans. mini microcosms of the larger, swirling world.

she is in the lab already when thomas enters. dahlia leaves the stool she sits in with a smile, but the shape soon leaves her face when she notices his disgruntled face.

"hello thomas!" dahlia says, still bright but tinged with some soft sorrowful concern. "are you alright? take a seat."

it's almost endearing. the defenseless is teeters close to childlike— but not immaturity. her heels are persian claws. they pierce needle thin against the floor as she walks around the chair.

"in other words, you came onto the scene with little contextual knowledge. acted impulsively." dahlia's lips come together sharply before she speaks again in multiple choice. "or perhaps, you thought it was a decisive action. a heroic launch into the unknown."

she brings her heels together with a single step.

"you're rough around the edges, kazimir." dahlia says. "but not without potential. what you did, frankly, was reckless. unacceptable. i could have you strung up."

she softens the cut of her voice.

"but we can make other arrangements. are you interested?"

"so you admit you were reckless." dahlia fakes personable eye contact for scrutiny. the handsome blond before her does little to shake the commissioner from her air of business. "kazimir, i trust my elite four very much. Katherine Fairburne saw the pokkenger in the thick of battle."

she pauses.

"she saw you." dahlia stands, her heels hitting the floor with punctuated clacks.

she walks over to the blond, one hand clasping the curve of the chair's headrest.

james' answer hangs in the air like a spectre and grows eyes. briefly, her breath is taken away. another swell of the lungs.

"i'm so sorry for your loss." she whispers as the cape swoops around her slim shoulders. the warmth softens her form, and her voice.

"not yet." dahlia's fingers dangle by her legs. they search for her old stoutland who remains resting in a pokeball. "i'm preparing myself for it, though." her sigh leaves her quick; the sight of james' espeon paints the mountain mistier than it already is.

"i just felt like we needed some time to get to know each other more." she says. "apologies for the less than... festive setting, of course."

dahlia picks up a retractable pen, pushes its button with a crisp click before gliding its tip across a notepad. she does not look down at her paper.

"does helping a few folks include assisting them with their assault on the workshop?" the pen drops as her hands and forearms flatten against the desk. leaning forward, she says, "i'll let you unmask your side of the story. how does that sound?"

"and if we could schedule in a hair appointment for next thursday that would be much appreciated james." dahlia walks among the rows of graves on mt. pyre. recent events on the mountain have caused some of the stone markers to be chipped or broken, the earth disturbed by peculiar powers both unknown and felt. "this one hair curl of mine keeps getting in the way of everything."

the commissioner walks ahead of her secretary. despite the solemnity of this sedate spire, their scheduled stroll is both respite and business. up here, the air is fresh. almost earthy.

"james, have you ever lost a pokemon before?" the clacking of her heels against cracked stone stops. she turns to face him, hands held together for warmth.

dahlia is dizzy, hands grasping her dragonite as if she were keeping the world together by its scales. the concussion begins as a small blossom of headache within the cage of her skull.

unable to call upon her mr. rime, she urges her dragonite to PROTECT her. there is little she can do for others. the stupor forces her hand to be selfish before she is launched a few feet back.

vision is interrupted with wind, stone and blinks. through black gaps in sight, she catches the shape of gargantuan, dynamaxed creatures. it is a sight the commissioner has not seen before, and it draws more air out of her lungs.

should she be able to avoid the second strike of the regirock, she would return her dragonite in favour for her mr. rime.

dahlia shakes her head and like a fox's tail, a golden curl loosens and swings. despite the other's decorations, this meeting, this moment is separate from all others: an isolated encounter that removes past and potential.

"i received a report that says you were involved in an attack on route 113's glass workshop. during this incident, you assisted unknown assailants." dahlia speaks cleanly with little flair, "is this true?"

a strict summons comes for kazimir wynter. in light of the messages received by katherine, there is no fleeing from procedure. no escape from formalities— and yet, dahlia finds opportunity under the dust of bureaucracy. when kazimir arrives to league headquarters, he's swiftly escorted to a secluded office in the east wing.

there, dahlia awaits. her stoutland sits proudly by the door before slumping into a lazy heap of fur after his passage. she sits before a dark wooden desk. behind her, a bookshelf stands tall, filled with antiquated tomes and dull green and brown spines.

"mr. wynter, take your seat." dahlia directs him to an old wooden chair of little comfort: all rigid lines, save for fanciful tapered curves at the ends of its arms. like a teacher holding a student after last period, she is tense in language and stiff-lipped. "do you know why you've been called here today?"

EVA'S EXAMINATION IS FRUITFUL. the pearl is missing: the most obvious discrepancy. however, the pale, bluish skin is a conspicuous symptom of death. at least, potentially. as she collects the odd green discharge— she is quick to realize, that this in fact, vomit.

dahlia listens intently. her fingers tap against her elbows as she gives the doctor space.

the spoink is turned carefully. it is clear that the spoink has a nice rotund rear; however, she spots something odd. inflammation and scabbing. a browning of some sort. but where is it?[break][break]
