[attr="class","spiral"]There has only been one instance in where the Gym Leaders of Hoenn have came together in one spot intentionally. That moment, fresh in the recess of his mind, had revealed them to be utterly useless. And, frankly, he doesn’t expect any different now.

However, as per the course, titles have changed, faces are replaced. A new subset walks among them. With that comes the promise of change. So he invites them out to dinner.

His invitation is simple: a text sent out to the numbers they provide the League. It serves as a way for them to keep in touch during emergencies and should a situation arise. He prefaces the message with his name but those that may overlook this and ignore him is not unreasonable. After all, it’s nothing new.

The sizzling sound of hot oil permeates across each table. Even the sound of Melody Miro’s music is drowned out by the boisterous chatter that comes from the front of the house. Their section is in the back, a private gathering set up long beforehand.

No matter how far away they remain from the others, the rich smell of meat finds a way in. It wafts in from the hallway, replaced by several trays of meat left by a waiter. Fernando has already done the honor of ordering just about everything he deems adequate and beyond. Those he considers the best are denoted by sheer quantity, an obvious second or third serving requested well ahead of time.

“It’s not as good as Johto, mind you, but it’s the best one I’ve found in Hoenn.” Fernando makes small talk as his tong takes a fatty piece of meat and lays it out on the grill. “They do a good job of seasoning it.”

Zac sat across the table from Fernando, sipping on some sort of mixed drink that had been served in a coconut. He took a long sip, making sure not to spill any on his Alolan shirt, which was patterned with brightly colored Exeggutors. "So Fernando, any plans for the long weekend coming up?" Zac asked as he loaded up his rice bowl with strips of cooked meat. "I'm heading out to the mountains for some moon watching if you're interested?"
It was a long shot, as Fernando was definitely busy, but it was always polite to ask. "There's been some fantastic moon activity lately. Beautiful time of year to be outside, yeah?"

"Really, makin' plans without me, Zac? Well... I suppose I have been terribly busy of late."

A tall young man was led into the room just as Zac Ramsay began speaking, long jacket flowing as he bowed his thanks to the waitress, before making his way towards the two men present.

"'pologies for the tardiness, gentlemen! Got held up at base." He said as he plucked the hat off his head, nodding at each man.

Fashionably late hadn't been the plan, but his charge was threefold between military, gym leader and student duties; he would have had to regretfully decline under normal circumstances.

But how many chances would he ever have to interact with every other Gym Leader in one place? It was too good a chance to gauge how well they got along as a group; just in case he ever needed to make a call in the future.

"Thank you for the invitation, Mr. Silph. It's nice to see you again." Did the man remember him? He had kept his word and taken on a few other of the Battle Frontier's challenges a few times- but he never got to fight the man himself ever again.

A CEO, An adventurer and a Military buff walking into a BBQ restaurant sounded like the set up for a good joke. But it was just a regular day in the league. In fact the only thing to make it more ridiculous was the fact a fresh pop idol joining the group, as she walked into the restaurant she paused. HER MUSIC WAS PLAYING? She was so excited! This was the first time hearing her music being played on the radio! [break][break]

She skipped all the way to the back of the restaurant, stopping right before they could see her as she of course had to act somewhat professional lest she make Fernando Silph think she's a ditzy moron. She turned the corner and smiled to everyone in the room "Hello everyone! Thank you Mr Silph for the invitation." she said as she had to pay respects to the person who had invited her. She also waved again to john douglas "Hey john. Nice to see you again!" she commented as she had remembered the gym leader challenging her before shooting him a death glare from trying to ruin the song with his kricketune...little devil.. "Hi Mr. Ramsay!" She then waved to Zac as she remembered him from the contest and the recent "tower" to space which was more like a certain leaning slide now. Her eyes darted over to the meat cooking on the table and she promptly took her seat. She began to grab at some of the meat that was ready to eat and put them on dishes that people could grab from instead of serving herself.

“Actually, that’s why I invited you here today.” The fire dies down and the sound of bubbling oil simmers to a bearable medium.

“I appreciate the invitation but I’ll be busy this weekend helping out with the Slateport City council with drafting renovations.”

It’s not a lie but there’s another underlying reason for his refusal. Nights where the moon proves fullest are reserved for experimenting. Whatever influence the primal energy has on him has shifted his circadian rhythm. It’s when his powers are the most potent.

“Sullivan.” Fernando refrains for delving too deep into conversation when the others arrive. He gives the Mauville Gym Leader a small dip of his head in acknowledgement before the Sootopolis representative comes in with her many greetings.

“Miro,” he repeats in succession. “Glad you two were able to join us.”

What the flying fuck was he going to wear?!

Honestly—he didn’t know.

However since the invitation did come from—well, he wasn’t on the Council anymore, just another Gym Leader—maybe, just maybe—

‘Son, wherever you’re at, don’t be too late. Guy who invited everyone’s like, a stickler for punctuality,’ he texted Billi Marsh as he unwound the scarf he wore over his—attire.

Normally he would go for something a little more casual but seeing as it was going to be like, every single Gym Leader in attendance he opted to go for something a little more semi-formal.

Adding a second text to the first one he sent, he added, ‘I went in something a little more formal, considering all the Gym Leaders are going to be in attendance. See you when you get here.’

After he sent the second message, he sent the coordinates of the restaurant, before letting himself in and getting directed to the booth where—

Holy shit, wait a second, one of them he was rather surprised to see there.

“John?” he began, blinking at the youngest one present (so far). “Clearly, you didn’t tell me something when you dropped by my Gym,” he said with a bit of a jest, the barest hints of a grin on his face.

“Hey, Zac,” he waved to the redhead in greeting before finding a spot to edge himself in and make sure Billi had a spot for when the other arrived. “Coun—well I suppose it’s just Mr. Silph now,” he added in greeting.

Fuck, his aura still creeped him out from time to time. The only other person he didn’t know (at least not yet, by name) was Melody Miro.

“Who else are we waiting for? I already sent Billi the coordinates here.”

he hadn't really been sure what he was going to do at a gym leaders only dinner but he also wasn't going to pass up a free meal and a chance to get some information. he'd met a couple of the other gym leaders through various activities and being related to one. but other than that he was still a bit unsure of who was who. at least personally. of course he had information on them but he hadn't met them yet himself. so he followed the instructions to where he was supposed to be, waving to Melody Miro and Zac Ramsay as he got in there. "hey! its good to see you guys!" it had been awhile since he had seen them and it was good to think that they were still around. even if they were league. he took his seat next to her, comfortable closest to his cousin. after all he was pretty new to this whole gym leader thing. "i haven't met some of you, my name is glitch maverick and i've taken over the mossdeep gym." it was good to introduce yourself, even if it was obvious he was the odd man out as a new person.

Melody smiled at Fernando, she regarded him fondly as her last interactions with him were pleasant! "I'm glad you decided to put this together. It's quite lovely considering we have a lot of new faces around here, myself included." She said as there were new gym leaders popping up to answer Hoenn's call. Of the "new" set of gym leaders Billi Marsh glitch maverick John Sullivan Zac Ramsay and herself, she thinks this was the reason at least as she didn't suspect he had any other purpose.[break][break]

As she saw glitch come in and took a seat next to her she gave a small hug to her cousin. "Anddd im his cousin Melody, the new sootopolis gym leader! It's nice to meet you all officially." she grinned as she took some of the meat she set to the side for people to pick and placed it on glitch's plate "Whatever you don't finish I can eat if you want." she offered.

the door to the restaurant opens with a chime as noah arrives. he pulls his loose coat off his shoulders and hangs it on the sudowoodo coat rack. noah smooths out his weathered gym uniform. sneakers scratch against the shoe mat before they squeak during his jog over to the booth.

"oh man, i've been craving bbq for so long. thanks for inviting me." noah takes a seat next to glitch. eyes spark to each face. his smile hides his slick mouth stirred by the smell of melting fat and caramelizing marinade. "first time we've all been together outside of work, right? we missing anyone?"

his hands scramble for the nearest utensil.

Melody Miro and Alexei Ivanov both received a cheeky grin, a wink and a tip of the cap, both of their greetings amusing to the youth in their own right. A nod and some thanks were given to FERNANDO SILPH following his somewhat curt greeting, and he nodded along to glitch maverick's general greeting for the group.

He was playing it silent for the most part. Mostly.

"Oi, aren't you the bloke who personally introduced me to the mat this morning?" He said to noah faber as the man took his seat, smiling back. "Just Billi Marsh, now that yer here."

He grabbed some utensils for himself and began laying pieces of meat on the grill, humming. It wasn't his first time cooking or even making BBQ, but it was certainly his first time in a restaurant the let you do it yourself.

The meat on the grill, the youth glanced over at Zac Ramsay next him, looking the man up and down before grinning.

"'Ey Zac, did ya... do something with yer hair? Dunno what it is, but yer looking amazing!" He said, tempted to reach over and poke the man's face for clues, Ki style.

Their table filled up with fresh faces. Zac knew them all personally, aside from noah faber . "Nice to meet ya mate!" Zac said, reaching across the table to shake hands with his new friend.
"Just lots of sleep and clean living," he said to John Sullivan . Zac finished his drink and, instead of calling for a refill, sent out his Rotom. It was in the form of bright red mini-fridge. He opened the Pokemon's doors and took out an ice cold Charja-Cola. "Anyone else want one?" he offered before closing the doors.
Zac sat back, alternating sips of the paint-stripping beverage with chunks of sizzling, fatty meat as he listened to the conversation.

[attr="class","spiral"]One by one, they all come in, each with their own personalized entrance. Some attach themselves to those they know while others stand aloof with more generalized greetings. Unsurprisingly, about half of them shoot straight for the food.

Fernando marries the mood with his own brief introductions wherever needed. His usage of their surname is routine, no exceptions.

“Indeed. We’re only missing Marsh,” he parrots Doug’s assessment. “Which is good enough for attendance.”

They’ve given a moment to fraternize as well as eat the thin cut slices before Fernando clears his throat.

“Thank you for coming today. We don’t come together often outside of work so feel free to order and enjoy as you see fit.”

Unfortunately, his timing lines up with several pieces cooking well past due. Thankfully, juggling between divvying cooked pieces between the closest plates within his wingspan (his, Zac Ramsay’s, and John Sullivan's) and talking proves easy enough.

“The reason I called you here today is to discuss the upcoming Hoenn Star Tournament.”

For Hoenn natives, or anyone well versed enough to look up the customs and culture of the region they’re living in, the tournament should be nothing new. It’s held every four years, alternating with the Pokeathalon, to celebrate Pokemon battles and how integral they are to society.

Trainers battle non-stop throughout the week with just about anyone willing to oblige. It’s a chance for trainers to showcase their talent and skills while remaining in a light-hearted mood festered by local festivities. Winning and losing means little due to the sheer amount of battle that take place. Tradition and celebration supersede personal gain and vanity.

“While participating strictly to win is fine, you have all been recognized by the League to be capable trainers. You have proven your worth. Instead, it may prove more beneficial to use this opportunity to scout out talented trainers.”

The flames die down as the grill lack appropriate fuel. Charred black marks fill in the chalking for where the meat was peeled off oiled steel.

“More likely than not, the League will authorize us to award our badges to those we deem deserving throughout the tournament. I encourage all of you to use this chance wisely as well as showcase your ability to teach and cultivate the next generation of trainers.”

Melody stared as john douglas stuck his finger in zac's face. Huh, he did look different now. Melody liked it though! It totally fit him! [break][break]

As noah and others came in Melody waved over to them as well, specifically at noah faber as she remembered her encounter with him fondly at his gym. As it seemed no one was really paying attention to the meat she had placed on the table and pulled the plate closer to herself and began to pick from it handing some meat to glitch maverick [break][break]
She also got a bowl of rice and began to eat some of the meat and using the fat left over on the plate and pouring it onto the rice and eating more. She stayed silent for the most part during fernando's reason for calling the dinner. [break][break]
"Ooooo" she said suddenly as she swallowed the last bit of rice "That sounds like an awesome idea, I already have some people in mind to try and encourage to sign up I think. Hoenn has some really good trainers, some showed up to my gym recently." she said in a singsongy voice "We should all recommend people and make a bet of some kind." she mused out-loud wondering if anyone liked the idea of a bet. Melody adjusted her purse as it started to roll a bit on account of the very round egg in her bag. She thought it might be a good idea to bring it since the room was pretty toasty.

He turned his attention to his plate as FERNANDO SILPH filled it up with food ready to be eaten, smiling at the man thankfully before snatching some of the meat with some chopsticks, blowing on it slowly before stuffing it into his mouth.

Oh hell, it tasted as good as it smelled! Delighted by what he was chewing on, the youth was only half paying attention to the Big man's words- until the Hoennian Stars Tournament came into the picture, that is.

The youth's gaze snapped back into focus, immediately swallowing what he had in his maw before fixing his posture on his seat.

He had special interest in the tournament; a chance to prove himself to all of Hoenn and sweep all naysayers in one fell swoop didn't come often. The elite 4 was incomplete after all, making challenging the champion on an official level impossible.

The youth scratched at his head at Fernando's proposition, glancing aside as Melody Miro chimed in, already excited and all for it.

Win or lose, a talented trainer should make themselves apparent through battle. So far, it didn't seem like Fernando was asking them to go easy on anyone- just not to make winning their focus.

"Sounds like a good idea. I'll be on the lookout. I can already think of a few who were interested." He said, scratching at his chin in thought.

Megan Whitmore came to mind- though she had been interested in becoming a Gym Leader, not just an Officer.

At the mention of bets, the youth grinned wide.

"Oh? A bet?" He said, leaning steepling his fingers and leaning over, looking at Melody with a teasing grin before looking over at Zac playfully. "Oi Zac, think we can get another one of those crowns o' yers? One reading 'Best Gym Leader'?"

through the energetic beat of Melody Miro's music, noah returns greetings. laughs at John Sullivan's joke. for a moment, the gym leader forgets about the region's unease.

noah is quick to take zac's hand. his grin cuts above their arms with a competitive edge. a test of strength done in haste before abrupt release, for the barbecue's steam singes.

"sounds good to me too!" noah says mid-chew. he cracks his neck as a brisket strip flops greasily from his lips. finding fernando's eyes, he asks, "are you joining the tournament too, or are you gonna be a busy with silph co. business?"

he slurps the rest into his mouth.
