Long gone are Mars’ days of drinking excessively and partying until long past dawn. Fun as things like those had once been, these days he’s much more fond of one nice drink had in good company, with great conversation to go along with it – especially when in public. And, when it comes to good company, Cillian Quinn has definitely long since been one of his favourite drinking partners.

Being that they’re not in the comfort of either of their homes, there’s no excessive drinking for either underboss. There is, instead, two glasses of old-fashioned. It may not be Mars’ favourite, but even he has to admit that virgil roach does a great job with Ritual’s signature (the smoked sugar truly adds a delightful note).

”Ha. You and me both.” It really is one of the rare chances they get to relax, isn’t it? Especially with everything that has been happening as of late. The weight on their shoulders is heavy. Yet, even if that’s the case, Mars finds himself smiling.

”Moonblast, huh? I’ve never been. I hope you two have fun. I’m meeting Barnaby at the casino, figured we should celebrate somewhere more private.” His smile shifts to a playful smirk, and chuckling, Mars tilts his own glass as well. It’s only once he drinks that a realisation comes to him. ”Right… I never told you about me and him, did I?”

It’s not like he and BARNABY FINCH have gone around making official announcements or anything, but of all people in the world, Gavin is one of the few that matter enough to Mars for him to want to properly share something so personal and so important to him.

Mars’ favourite thing about Casino Starlight has always been the view. In one of the luxurious private rooms, floor-to-ceiling windows display Sootopolis City’s skyline in all of its glory – beautiful, even when lacking the Tree of Life that had once been as iconic as it had been symbolic.

”It’s been one hell of a night, huh?” A smile comes easily when giving the Rocket-controlled city one last glance, his attention then turning to the one person for whom he had come all the way to Sootopolis after much celebration. Despite what people may believe due to P.O.G Bank’s clever advertising campaigns, before becoming CEO of such a financial institution, Mars never had any particular interest in felines. They had always been just like any other pokémon to him. That is, of course, until the day he was welcomed into the bank and gifted a Meowth along with a mega stone for it. That one particular Meowth has long since evolved; now a regal Persian that must currently be peacefully napping in his office, but there are many others, and Cash Money herself had even been there with him when he had earned Melody Miro’s badge (footage which, by the way, had made for spectacular promotional material).

So, throughout his time in Hoenn, Mars has actually grown to appreciate Meowth quite a lot (he even likes them!), and because he has, he’s also well aware of how capricious they are.

”Still not as bad as Fulgora.” He thinks, but such a thought is not voice, and instead he finds himself sighing. ”Yeah, same here. They must have been really bored and managed to leave the cattery somehow. I’ll contact them to see which Meowth are missing.”

The cattery where most of P.O.G Bank’s Meowth live is on the same floor as the small daycare corporate headquarters has set up for the young pokémon of the employees who might need it, which is most definitely not this floor.

Just as Mars brings out his phone and is about to tell John he does not need to keep looking, a hissing sound comes from the vent, caused by the latter’s presence right beneath it.

”Huh… Guess one is still here. Careful, we have some new ones that haven’t been trained to interact with the public just yet.”

Of course, Delphi simply watches, as if unbothered by any harm that could possibly come to either of them.

Being currently on his way back to the office with a cup of coffee in hand, Mars sure as hell did not expect to end up running into Hideo Kino, but then again, it’s as if 99% of the times he sees Hideo it’s in the most unexpected and random manner ever.

Except for the last time they all met at this park, that is.

Funny how it’s almost been a year since all that happened…

”Hideo.” He calls to the boy, looking at his chronograph watch and deciding he has enough time to pause and greet an acquaintance. The Flittle pauses as well, but it soon goes to circle around both the boy and his Meowscarada with curiosity, twirling in the air.

Mars hadn’t planned on capturing another Eiscue: just one of the strange ice cube-faced penguins is enough for his collection. Yet, when one of magenta feathers and a face covered in pink ice waddles right by his path, it seems like too good of an opportunity to let it pass.

Even he can’t resist the allure of a shiny pokémon most of the time. There are only a few exceptions to that.

This is definitely not one of them, and so, a decision is made quickly enough.
[break][break]
After a signalling whistle, Boreas strikes, summoning flames around the wild pokémon. Even once its trapped, the assault does not end, and it’s quickly and effectively that ESPER WINGS meet their mark, hitting the Eiscue with the full force of Boreas’ psychic power.

As if they were the latest fashion trend, Paldean pokémon are all the rage in Hoenn these days, having replaced those that only can be found in space-time distortions as what is currently most coveted.

To Mars, whose whole family has always been oh so very proud and outspoken about their Paldean origin and heritage, it all seems rather silly, and yet it’s still a Flittle that levitates closely by his side as he walks near Slateport Park – eagerly keeping up with him.

To be fair, he had just caught it a few hours earlier when going for a jog, and apparently it’d rather stay by his side than linger in a pokéball, even during a cold winter day such as this one.

Snow coats Slateport Park, but neither Mars nor his pokémon seem to mind.

Where there had once been a nice and sizable pond there is now nothing but frost; water having been perpetually frozen by Kyurem’s merciless cold. A smooth and unmovable layer of ice that lies surrounded by snow, making for the perfect setting for ice hockey, figure skating, and all activities of the sort.

That is, of course, if one is willing to ignore the dead pokémon encased in ice that are as if gruesome statues in this Silent Iceland.

Personally, in Mars’ case, he finds that he doesn’t really mind them all that much. There’s even something almost morbidly fascinating about each one…

”I don’t think most people venture this deep.” No pesky Leaguers to interrupt their conversation, thankfully. Just in case, an Unown-? levitates overheard, keeping watch over their surroundings. ”Wild to think that one pokémon managed to do all of this. The reports say it was massive. Wonder how many more of those the Triad has up their sleeve.”

His own comment makes Mars wonder, once again finding himself wishing he knew more of the Triad’s power. A power he’s somehow connected to, yet at the same time so very distant from…

Boreas likes fishing. Mars had come to discover that in the long months since he first met the Braviary in a space-time distortion. Today, however, there is no fishing planned, and although a Mareep is quite a different target, Mars is sure his pokémon will have no issue with going after one when he gives the signal.

Not being too keen on looking up, the herd exists completely unaware of the bird-of-prey looming above them until it's too late for them to get away. The banker raises a hand, giving a silent signal much different from the usual whistles. The kind of signal meant for when sounds are not preferable.

Boreas recognizes it, of course, and it’s all the Braviary needs to see in order for him to swoop down upon a Mareep.
