Mars slowly swirls the champagne in his glass, golden gaze meeting that of stunning cobalt. ”Although, perhaps I should tell you about it somewhere more private.”

After all, as fate would have it, it’s at this very moment that he notices a woman’s approach.

An eyebrow is raised when looking at her. Over a year ago now, when Mars had first met Summer Atreides, she had been wearing nothing but a towel, and oh how terribly easy it has been to recognize her ever since then – even at a masquerade.

”I agree. You look divine, dulzura. Shame most people here won’t get to see just how truly perfect they are, hm?” His smirk is teasing and his words are chosen as carefully as ever; the assumption being that Summer may find someone she likes enough for that by the time the party is over (little does he know she already has, right, Gunner Graves?). This time around, Mars does not bother with lowering his voice, for it’s not like anyone around them could possibly guess what he’s referring to.

Thankfully for those who actually might overhear, the topic of conversation quickly takes a turn, and the masked banker finds himself laughing at Summer’s accusations of pinning.

”Ah, but the question is how much we should tell her, no?” Mars tells BARNABY FINCH, fondness all too noticeable in his tone. It’s then that he looks at Summer again, a smirk remaining to illuminate his masked expression. ”It was very romantic, if you must know. The night before the meteor arrived, in fact. Suitable, wouldn’t you say?”

Some details are better left unsaid, such as what they were doing right before such confessions happened. See, Mars subscribes to the Iceberg Theory when it comes to this sort of thing; less is more, and the omission of explicit details can make for even more captivating stories. Just as he has grown accustomed to being cautious too, although that’s more of a lesson the banker had learned a long time ago. It would be bad if people saw someone as good and honest as him hanging out with the newest scandalous publicly confirmed Team Rocket bad boy, no?

The moment Xanthos catches sight of the Solrock, his thoughts are all too obvious to Mars, but while the Dragapult and its Dreepy would undeniably love to play with (read: bully) the wild pokémon to exhaustion, their trainer puts a quick stop to all that.

Most people aren’t all that intimately aware of the true dangers of Hoenn: of how this region may one day be capable of destroying the multiverse itself. But, of course, most people had not received warnings from deities, nor had they seen what had been shown to those who were taken to cyberspace.

Locke is aware, though, and so is Mars himself.

”That’s why it’s a good thing that Dialga and Palkia are back in the region. Now that they’re free from anyone’s influence, my hope is that they’ll work on restoring things to what they should be.”

Even Mars himself has ventured into other dimensions multiple times, willingly or not, and will he really stop now that he’s aware that said travels may be the very thing that destroys the multiverse?

For now, he simply looks at his surroundings, watching as a curious Piloswine approaches his Persian. Dollar is cautious and alert, but he does not attack without a command; the large feline simply sniffs the fluffy pokémon, as if attempting to determine if he’s fond of it or not. Finally, Dollar purrs heavily in acceptance, rubbing his side against the ever so soft Piloswine. Typical cat.

Sleep comes easier on nights like these; when he’s not alone with his thoughts and memories. Those terrible dreams that steal his slumber away don’t visit him as often as they once did, but on this one particular night, it’s something else that robs Mars of his somnolent peace. He has never been a heavy sleeper, and between strange distant sounds and Barnaby’s movement, it’s soon that golden eyes are greeted with the darkness of his own bedroom.

Except that on this night it’s not really dark at all.

Colourful lights passingly illuminate the room, and when he turns to get a better look at them, it’s over Barnaby’s dark locks that he does so. With an arm wrapped around his lover’s waist, Mars gently kisses the nape of his neck, whispering against its fair skin.

And rather sad.

He knows what it is when he sees it. He has seen it a few times before.

Pokémon like Cleffa, Elgyem, and Staryu are said to come from other space, but when it comes to Minior, their origin is a known truth… just like what happens to them if not captured soon after their fall.

Except, of course, for the fact that this ice is meant to melt where Kyurem’s does not. In fact, if Mars’ theory is correct, it should fade away in a mere moment.

With all the snow all around them, the Alolan Sandshrew would perhaps be hard to see from up above for someone – perhaps even for most pokémon. However, Boreas' senses are keen, and when the Ice Type moves through the fields of frost, it catches the attention of the Braviary.

A screech warns Mars himself, and he responds with a whistled note: a command to attack. Naturally, Boreas does so. He dives down, great wings closing in order to speed up his descend, and extending sharp talons, he grabs onto his prey.

Soon enough, the Sandshrew is coated in MYSTICAL FIRE.

Nothing quite like the sound of bells chiming in the wilderness, right? Or, well, more like the sound of bells chiming in a mountain that's filled with as many trees as graves and tombstones...

Regardless, there's bells, and Mars is familiar enough with the sound to know it to mean one thing: a Chingling is nearby. So, he pauses, looking around, and it's then that he sees it flying near the top of a tree.

Sadly for it, this means Xanthos is given a command, and soon enough the Dragapult is biting on the little pokémon as if it were some kind of chew toy. He quickly gets sick of it, though, and its with his tail that it slaps the Chingling away. Is it really no more than a glorified ball?
