Yet he speaks of his empty wallet as if he had forgotten what actual danger feels like.

Prepare as they may, the battlefield will always brings the unexpected sooner or later, and on this final day of Hoenn, it’s soon that the sight of Aidan Hereford draws the underboss’ gaze away from the primal point. What is Aidan doing here? Does he work for the League now? Does he know what he’s doing?

The masked man clicks his tongue in what may sound like an innocuous response born of irritation, yet beneath the levitating platform on which he stands, the Hatterene hears the command. A witch’s gaze wanders over fog, keen senses picking up on the emotions of humans and pokémon alike. Fear, worry, hesitation, stress, anxiety, anger… It all serves to put the Hatterene in a terrible mood. She senses the Gengar's approach, readying an attack.

A blood-curdling roar rings through the mountain at that moment, and there and then, a masked man appears on the rock Aidan Hereford had been leaning on. He wields a blade, pointed at the P.I’s neck. Beneath the mask, golden eyes fix on those of Aidan, and a simple command is spoken by a distorted voice:

Wild pokémon crossing their path is an inevitable fact of places like these, and the first one to do so today is a Jynx. The Eevee, generally less tranquil than his brethren due to its shadow parentage, growls at the wild pokémon, and while Mars considers pausing, he does not.

”Ignore it and keep going.” He says to the fox, caring little for the fact that it is soon left behind.

He can still hear it growling, but he does not stop, and soon enough, the Eevee gives in, quick little steps being audible behind him as it attempts to catch up with him. Mars doesn’t even consider slowing down for its sake.

If only for a second, Mars exercises an attempt to find the sympathy in himself; the sense of guilt most people would likely feel when facing someone who mourns a death they’re responsible for, even if only by association. He finds no such feelings. He doesn’t know who or what lies in this grave and he won’t ask, but there’s only one thing that bothers him: had this life been taken to cause the councilman pain, or had there been another reason for it? Silently, he hopes for the latter, for no one deserves to lose their life because of someone else’s mistakes.

Calm, he merely looks at the stone, watching the way the autumnal breeze carries fallen leaves away from it.

FERNANDO SILPH deserves to suffer, he deserves pain, he deserves to pay for everything he has done, and he has earned everything Team Rocket has done to him.

Heavy fog falls upon Mount Pyre, carried to the summit by a gelid wind. It’s not a rare occurrence at the mountain, but it only serves to heighten the general sense of uneasiness caused by the looming meteorite enroute to destroy Hoenn.

'IMPACT' The Unown whisper over and over to a masked man who, within the fog, looks up at the world-ending threat that darkens what would otherwise be a perfect autumn midday. Just as declan walsh claims, ships rise towards it, almost too miniscule to see even from the mountain’s peak. He allows himself a heavy sigh and looks away – towards where he knows the primal point awaits.

One step is taken, and beneath red boots, a reflective platform appears as if a floating mirror to stand on. Then another, causing the last one to fade away – this time higher. Another… and another… A mirror staircase that rises in the mist. He only pauses once he’s a few metres off the ground, granting himself a visual advantage while still remaining hidden.

He sees allies and enemies alike.
[break][break]
He sees those he recognizes among those guarding the primal point, like Melody Miro, Callan Young, and maverick noah ryder, and those he’s unfamiliar with.

He sees the first signs of a struggle showing themselves when Tempest Quinn steps out of hiding. The end of the calm before the storm coming their way. Underboss Cillian Quinn is close, so it shouldn’t be much of a problem. He wonders where exactly BARNABY FINCH is at this moment.

”I count almost ten. There’s likely many more. Looks like they’re expecting us.” He calls over comms. If anyone were to overhear him, the voice they would hear would not be that of Martín del Mar – it has been altered by his mask. There’s static behind his words. ”There’s interference. Comms might stop working.”

Just like how comms suddenly stopped working when Necrozma attacked Sootopolis. It gives him a strange feeling. Then again, maybe he’s just peckish.

”Disrupting the primal point is just as important as retrieving the crystal. We need to buy time. Do as you must, you’ve all been chosen to excel at this task… For the glory. ”

All emotions are dulled at that moment. Beneath, he can see Aidan Hereford, and with a snap of his fingers, he commands the Hatterene that had been dutifully following him. Something changes in the air around him: TRICK ROOM is now in place in this vicinity.

Ironically enough, he’s not here because of the primal point. Some Team Rocket members may think of discretely coming to Mount Pyre to scout ahead, some may want to get to know the terrain, but Mars himself already knows the eerie mountain better than most people in Hoenn. It’s no secret that he comes here often. Every week for over a year, actually. Pictures taken from the peak of the mountain are all over his social media.

Today, he had been going for a jog. Simple part of his routine, nothing more. He had intended to go up to the summit, taking one of the less common paths for the sake of avoiding most mourners and hikers and other visitors. After all, the whole reason why Mount Pyre is his location of choice is because the ever so elusive Unown favour the more solitary areas of the mountain. Exercising while looking for Unown – efficient, as usual.

What is not part of his routine, however, is the sight he just so happens to witness while in the middle of his jog. There’s nothing usual or expected about FERNANDO SILPH’s presence at this place. Mars could leave him alone, but a certain instinct compels him to step closer.

A League officer asking for his consent before potentially shoving him into life-threatening danger? That’s a new one. Then again, in Hoenn it’s usually more like certain civilians somehow always end up getting themselves involved in dangerous situations. Mars is among them, but in his case it’s on purpose. He doesn’t even bother with denying it.

He wonders if they realise that some of those civilians are Team Rocket members, but of course he keeps that thought to himself.
