There’s something about the way he mocks her that makes her blood boil, and for a moment, Lia considers abandoning her goals. He’s clearly responsible for all of this, why does he seem so certain that he can get away with it?

If there’s anything Lia can’t stand, it’s when people are this condescending.

”Oh, please. Who do you think I am?” An idiot, apparently. An amusing toy for him to play with. Shouldn’t she play along to try to get some information? Maybe, but Lia wears her emotions upon her sleeve, and she has never been a good actress. ”You won’t even give me your name?”

Her question is spoken over the sounds of the fight, the huge Steelix looking down upon the Machoke before swinging its golden IRON TAIL at it with all of its might.

It’s not fun for her. Battles like these have never been fun, but that does not mean that Lia won’t do what needs to be done.

Defeat him and get to the shrine.

A single goal, a single purpose, the Steelix as if in sync with her wishes from the moment she called upon it.

It bit down on the Gliscor with all of its might, but the fang scorpion still got free, a point-blank NIGHT SLASH causing the Steelix to let out a piercing cry.

A cry that summons a ROCK SLIDE.

”I don’t paint my pokémon.” She stares at the man, standing her ground despite the sudden avalanche of rocks. A ranger of golden eyes, a golden Steelix fighting by her side. ”What do you want with the shrine? Did you do this?”

Of course he did, the accusations and anger in her tone are clear.

Challenging her to a battle? At a place like this? At a time like this?

Lia may usually be gentle in her ways, but she clicks her tongue at his obvious pretence, eyes as if made of glistening gold defiantly meeting his. She’s glad in her ranger uniform, bow quiver tied to her hip.

”Stop this. You really don’t want to get in my way.”
[break][break]
But, that’s exactly what she does, and just as the Gliscor begins its charge, she clicks the button of the Ultra Ball in her hand.
[break][break]
There’s blinding light, Gliscor’s POISON JAB meeting the metallic body of golden Steelix that stares down at it as if it were no more than a mosquito to swat.
[break][break]
”Helix!”
[break][break]
Frost coats the steel serpent’s fangs, Helix attempting to bite down on the Gliscor with its ICE FANGS.

They don’t have time for this. They need to get to the shrine. They need to save what they can…

It had been a long time since Lia had moved out of her hometown, yet as should have only been expected, Petalburg would always have a special place in her heart…

So, of course the news of the space-time distortion had caused concern, and like many others, she had asked to be one of the rangers sent to check out the strange event.
[break][break]
But, what can Lia do about something like this?
[break][break]
Once standing in front of the iridescent dome, the feeling of helplessness is overwhelming. Beyond her skillset, out of her depth. What is she supposed to do? What is the right thing to do?
[break][break]
Doubts fill her heart, yet as is often the case with Lia, she forces her way past them and steps forward – a need to be brave always being one to win over any sense of caution that may exist within her.
[break][break]
Her Growlithe, sweet and loyal, steps forward with her, but unlike its trainer, its seems completely unbothered. Even when there are changes.
[break][break]
Fur grows longer, thicker, denser… covering the Growlithe’s eyes. A horn forms at its forehead, and the pup shakes its head, as if attempting to shake off these changes, but they don’t go away. It barks up at Lia, wondering what’s going on, and its confusion is soon matched by hers:

”Gardie? What happened to you?”

Weird. Better get out of here.

Being assigned a partner for a ranger mission was no rarity, in fact, it was pretty much expected in most cases. Still, when it came to something like this, it felt like a bit of a waste. How hard could it be to deal with something as slow and harmless as a Caterpie inside a furniture store?

Apparently, her partner for the day wholeheartedly agrees.
[break][break]
”Hey! Two heads work better than one, right? Who knows, maybe together we can get this over with quickly.” She smiles at him, a light chuckle leaving glossy lips.
[break][break]
”Last I heard, it was in the furniture store. I was thinking of having my Growlithe help us track it down by scent.”
[break][break]
It’s then that she reaches for a Safari Ball, from it releasing the Growlithe of gold-toned fur she caught all too recently. She has been training it since then, and the results are promising. It barks at them, wagging its fluffy tail excitedly.

”Oh… I’m Lia, by the way. Nice to meet you!”

”Ah… Believe me, you don’t want to ask me about history, I’d just rant for hours.”

It’s with this honest comment that she laughs; a soft and quiet sound, sweet and melodious in nature. Yet, while gentleness may be characteristic of Lia most of the time, that doesn’t take away from the way those golden eyes of hers look at Elisabeth when the woman gives an answer about her past – no intimidation, slight suspicion, and above all else, endless curiosity.

Still, it seems the clock saves the Kalosian woman from further prying, and Lia simply sighs when hearing the bell ding. ”Seems so, that’s a shame… I hope you find what you’re looking for in Hoenn, I can relate to wanting some change.”

That much is also an honest comment. After all, she wouldn’t have left her job at the museum and moved to Lilycove to be a ranger if she hadn’t sought changes. Perhaps her and Elisabeth Fiorelli have much in common, but sadly, it seems today won’t be the day they find out if that’s the case or not.

Lia gives her a smile, and with it, parting words spoken in perfect Kalosian:

”Petalburg’s really nice… Kind of small compared to cities like Slateport, but deep rooted with rich tradition. I'm familiar with a lot of the locals, so let me know if you need any recommendations about anything.”

There’s love in the way she talks about Petalburg, for while Lia may not agree with the strict and traditionalist ways of her family, in her heart, the city will always be her home. Lilycove’s still pretty great, though.

”At first I moved because of school, then work. I was assistant curator at Slateport’s museum until recently, but I’m living in Lilycove these days.”
[break][break]
Answers come easily, her life being left as an open book for whoever wishes to read it. Lia cares little for keeping secrets, and she is exactly who she seems to be.

”What about you? What brought you to Petalburg? It’s not every day you hear an eastern Kalosian accent around here.”
[break][break]
Still, when asked about her intentions, she finds herself pausing.
[break][break]
”What brings me here… Hmm…I guess you could say I like pursuing opportunities? Curiosity? Like, if I hadn’t come here today, I know I would have regretted it later.” With this, an ever so slight smirk tugs at her lips.

Elisabeth Fiorelli doesn’t speak like a lowly Petalburg florist, nor would anyone born to such circumstances refer to themselves as “lowly”. But of course, maybe Lia is just reading too much into all of that, except for the fact that…

”Oh! You live in Petalburg? I grew up there.” Her family has lived in Petalburg for generations. Not her, though. Not anymore. ”Sounds like you’ve met some interesting people. I actually got paired up with one of the gym leaders too…”

Thoughts of her short date with Xander Belmont bring a smile upon her face, a mental note being made to perhaps contact Ever Grande’s gym leader later.

”I think the goal for many is to just meet new people, you know? This sort of event can be helpful for that, especially for those who are newcomers to the region. I find it to be a good way to meet people I may never encounter otherwise... And to meet people in general.”

She chuckles at that, but where else would a historian and a florist sit at the same table without it being a coincidence?

As if a crown of blooms, a Comfey bearing a string of yellow and white flowers rests atop of her head, all too relaxed and tranquil despite the hustle and bustle all around them. She too is calm, everything about her – from her demeanour to her attire itself – seeming to exude an air of comfort and nonchalance. She’s not underdressed, nor are her clothes overly formal. Perfectly normal.

”It’s nice to meet you both. Amelia Livy, but feel free to just call me Lia.” A soft smile, gentle as the way she holds the other woman’s hand in a simple handshake. Of course, Kalosian notes are easy to recognize for someone who has studied linguistics for long, but Lia doesn’t comment on it just yet.

When she sits, the Comfey wakes, letting out a small yawn and rising from on top of her head. She chuckles, her attention being momentarily stolen away. ”Oh, and this is Lei.”

It's only then that eyes of a bright golden hue fall upon Elisabeth Fiorelli once again

In many ways, Lia is exactly who she seems; no more or no less than what she tells others about herself. She’s rarely one to lie about things and has no dark secrets to keep, and in the same way, she also has no reason to fake interest in anything. Among the many things Lia undeniably is, the fact that she’s a total nerd lies at the very top of the list.

It’s why she can easily recognize the excitement that fills Rowan Wrynn’s voice when talking about Sea Mauville.

”I thought Sea Mauville had been abandoned, that sounds pretty cool. I’d love to visit sometime!” She smiles brightly, but just as she’s about to ask more about Rowan’s research, a bell dings.

”Ah… Guess we’re out of time, I wanted to ask more about your research.” Too bad. That's just how the event works, after all. She had known that when deciding to come. "I had a lot of fun talking to you, Rowan. Thank you!"

”Oh! Oceanography sounds really interesting.” Her reaction is honest, even if Lia herself admittedly isn’t all that fond of the seas. Why swim when you can fly? It’s a no-brainer to her, although then again, maybe it’s because of the fact that being underwater has always made her somewhat uneasy…

”Giselle?” There’s a slight tilt of her head at the name, as if attempting to recall if there’s any familiarity to it. Alas, no bells ring. ”Not really, though I’m a bit of a new ranger myself. I hope she’s doing okay…”

After all, disappearing is not something most people want to hear about someone, especially not in a place as dangerous as Hoenn.

”Wyndon! Ah, I was wondering! Northern Galarian accents are very distinctive, but it’s always better not to assume, you know? You could be faking it or something.” At that, she winks playfully, a chuckle indicating that it’s no more than a joke. Lia is not the sort of person who is used to hidden identities and things of the sort.
