Maybe he had a lack of experience in seeing dead, civilian bodies. The girl is dead. No resistance, snapped and mangled in different places. A victim of trampling. But something is different and intuition pulls his attention despite everything else happening around him. He leans forward to inspect, check for more injuries. Ironically, perhaps the most important part, how cold the body was. Why was it….so cold? She'd just died right? He's about to check for bleeding or cuts before something when someone interrupts him. [break][break]

He looked up quickly, eyes alert and body tense before relaxing slightly. He stood up straight, and nodded. “I- Yeah.” He said quickly. He's not too familiar with Eduardo Hisakawa personally, and he doesn't have enough time to speak with him further. “Sure, I'll see you at the collection point.” He said as Eddie rode off. With that settled, he turned to Hopper to give new orders. “Don't let them escape.” The shiny Porygon beeped, TELEPORTINGinto the fray and aiming for the running Rockets ready to PSYCHIC the terrorists back, slamming those they could catch down almost angrily. Eventually the brutality settles. The place is emptied and cordoned off. Bodies are collected, separated accordingly. Paxton can't find Rockets left behind or the girl Eddie had taken. [break][break]

The Rocket notice stirs something inside him, but he can only laugh harshly and agree with PENELOPE LIVY's sentiments. In the coming days, he gets together with Gunner Graves to investigate. His suspicions turned to Eduardo Hisakawa. The state of the region, meant to bring a sense of unity to the League's citizens, seemed to have gotten that in the worst way. Unease reverberates through the populace, especially after Rocket's statements.

It looked like he was in REM sleep. Even with the astral projection just feet away, Paxton still kept his voice low so as to not wake the real avatar. “You'd have to do something incredibly extreme for the Commissioner and Council to ask for that.” He said offhandedly with a snort. “Last I checked, we don't execute traitors. Only terrorists.” [break][break]

“Consider PROJECT SAPPHIRE a grounding measure. Feel proud you're contributing to a better understanding of avatars.” Hopefully, they really could convince AQUA members to confide more in the League through this. They couldn't risk another high level incident like PRIMEVAL. But there's no way to stop a leak, until it's made a mess. He could only hope strengthening their security and morale would help. And maybe, the counselors in SAPPHIRE could help that. Frustration bubbling under the surface could- had been weaponized. Perhaps, this could work. If he worked on his own charisma. [break][break]

Streenstrup is an elite pokemon, trained for stealth under Paxton and Joules’ tuteluge. She is crafty, and adaptable. But the tinge of shadow that infected her one day after her battles against Rocket made her a bit more powerful, sure, but aggressive. And she is that now, so close to another shadow pokemon, prickling and writhing against the vent. The second Damo closes in out goes her SOAK, transforming the grass type to a water before she scuttled down the vent and deeper underneath, ready to blast at the shadow Serperior and challenge it for territory. [break][break]

Paxton is unaware of this. He's busy silencing the two grunts manning the security desk. Managing to hear the last message, he looks over the screens as the two Rocket's now slumped in their chairs, kicking them to the ground before they spilled too much on the console. He wiped the blade on a black uniform before looking at the other and wondering if it was worth stripping them for the cover before going over the screens. [break][break]

“May as well go to C2, a floor or two down right?” He said to nobody in particular. He finds a better layout of where he's supposed to go, does his best to reopen what Mercury had demanded close and gets ready to step out. Only for the office to begin to beep with a small alarm as it detected overly aggressive movement inside the vents beginning to move under the deck. The systems automatically move to the hall and in the dim light he can see his Octillery hissing and dripping water as she squeezed through the cracks in the vent, setting up a shot. “Streenstrup?!” He hissed, trying to turn off the alarm. It won't override. [break][break]

He needs to go. Maybe he should've taken the uniform. His partner pokemon is ready, waiting to see her prey come down and beginning to blast a barrage of BULLET SEEDS in an effort to take the Serperior out with its own typing. [break][break]

Paxton decided it best to head to C2, correlating the second best way to get there and starting to dart away as attention was drawn to his Octillery. He hits the comms, trusting that whatever happens, Streenstrup can wriggle out of it. [break][break]

“Mercury, this is Alpha, head over to hallway B, in section A3, disturbance in the vents!” He said urgently before adding, “Lost visual, heading over there now.” He lied before harshly kicking the screens and console to try his best to mess it up before darting out into the hallway and making his way towards the bottom of the ship. With things heating up, he lapses on stealth, and banks on being able to avoid the path most traveled to his pokemon.

He nodded, relieved Lam hadn't gotten hurt. It seemed like for the most part, the storming party managed to avoid too much damage. Paxton's eyes flickered from the golden Shinx and back to its trainer before nodding. “Well, we figured a gym leader specializing in double battles might enjoy a role like this.” he said, brushing off the praise. For the most part, he seemed pleased with the offer. “There will be some flexibility. PROJECT SAPPHIRE is additional duties on top of your gym leader responsibilities, but I don't intend to overwork you. Simply, be proactive.” he said, gesturing at the papers again. “Naturally, I would like you to visit for small medical evaluations due to your bond with MATIAS SILPH and Virizion. But I mean for you to be someone who helps guide those who chose to take on the gym challenge.” There's a poignant pause before he continued. “We want to develop their bonds, and encourage their goals within the gym challenge. At most, they will have the option to battle sims to ensure should a disaster strike Hoenn, trainers can survive and escape harm. He has many difficult conversations with personnel over the coming days. People are nervous, panicking. The silence from above is deafening. It's difficult to remain calm amongst all the complaints, and side conversations he's pulled into. With PENELOPE LIVY mia along with the rest of the council, he's left to handle intelligence and accountability all on his own. [break][break]

Messages and calls are sent to Gunner Graves , discussing the matter privately as well as coordinating a way to refocus everyone on first and foremost, their own safety. [break][break]

Paxton expresses his concerns over the response with Gunner. Not fears, but a rumbling suspicion- a gut feeling of the ranks of the League dividing and schiziming dangerously. He suggests plans for in case riots break out, as well as to watch movement of their classified intel. Frustrations pile up, and Paxton, ever the stalwart devotee, holds fast. He's not surprised at the resignation threats, and wholeheartedly welcomes them. He nodded as Hideo followed along. He's sure it'd be easy enough to set up a learning network. PROJECT SAPPHIRE could flourish in Littleroot, especially if it's gym leader was pushing it. It'd be a good way to spread out their available resources and reach citizens who might not have any idea how to access some of the League's programs. After all, it's just as much about avatars as it is about the people helping. [break][break]

Paxton stays quiet, listening to Hideo describe progress in healing the Lake Trio. Or at least Uxie considering it was the only one present. "I know. I saw it too." he said to the gym leader. Azelf had been one of the main reasons they had managed to break through that prison. Though, like everything else, the details are blurry. Too many people to interview, too little time. He figured he'd get some resistance form someone that had hid their own legendary for so long. Paxton considered his options before beginning to chose his words carefully. "Unfortunately, Azelf is just as much involved in this as Uxie or Mesprit." he said. "As you said, there's been little progress in healing their gems under your custody. I believe Professor Eva Morales and Professor illeana reyes might have more insight. Especially with the Alchemist's spatial abilities." If anyone could figure this out, surely the two most brilliant women in Hoenn could. [break][break]

"And while a second Necrozma has not shown up, we have confirmation it's chosen a new avatar, one more powerful and dangerous than the last." Zev Harcourt had not only revealed himself, but had taken the opportunity to show how much he'd mastered Necrozma's power. "Many people witnessed that same Avatar fire an enormously powerful laser beam at Kyurem after it fused with KING WAYLAND 's Reshiram, powerful enough to carve out the GIANT CHASM." [break][break]

"Please understand, currently the RED CHAIN is the only thing powerful enough to stop Necrozma. Under League supervision, Azelf would have access to every resource available, even AQUA with those who have healing abilities. We can't disregard it's status right now. Dealing with the Lake Trio had been one problem after the other since they'd appeared. From having their gems shattered by shadow pokemon, to being kidnapped, Azelf had seemingly gone through the most trauma and was now it's weakest link.

Paxton nodded, listening to Elise before beginning to pull up something unseen on his computer. "The combat sims will give you easier access to League custody legends as well as simulate other dangerous scenarios, like previous battles or ambushes. It should help overall skill more than anything else." he said as he looked at the progress made by their scientists. [break][break]

Her interest in military tactics gives him pause. "Aren't you a ranger? Or are you looking to pivot into an becoming an officer?" he asked. "The combat simulations are to help trainers develop trust with their pokemon, and survive dangerous encounters." he said. "Survival more so than annihilation." "Good." He offered a small smile. If Matias could believe in dahlia goode , he could focus on getting back his trashed reputation and protect Hoenn. "We don't need the League splintered more than it already is." he said as he held back a sigh. "You were a big enough leak as it was." Paxton doesn't pull his punches speaking as plainly as Matias had to him during one of their missions in Area Zero.

"I've scheduled a meeting with the commissioner for when PROJECT SAPPHIRE finalizes it's rebrand. I'll vouch you to her then." he assured his old friend before taking a moment. "Matias, I can't guarantee my word will mean anything to the Council." He worked for them, sure, but he was just PENELOPE LIVY 's deputee. "But I believe you. Rest, and figure out how to unfuck yourself out of this." By now, the reputation was bigger than the man in the worst way. Rumors of his interactions with various League members as well as strange reports ( or lack thereof ) had made their way to his cooler talk. It'd take a lot of make people trust Matias. But then again, it seemed like every day it took more and more effort for even their own people to trust the League.

This distrust would only worsen, showing cracks and weak points to Rocket when the stresses of war finally came down.

The grunt's aren't cautious at all. Loud as they come through metal corridors and open about where they're goign and where they came from. Paxton hides in the shadows, watching them move, taking mental note of the lack of pokemon at their sides. For an operation this big, he expected more. And that only worried him. This was practically the lead ship. [break][break]

They round part of the top of the ship and nothing. It's somewhat locked down. He figured the patrolees are focused on the downstairs, prepping and manning stations underneath. Not many grunts are nearby and while he has one or two closed calls, their behavior is easy enough to predict. His Octillery slows, blinking in and out of sight to warn Paxton of the stairs. For good measure. He catches the sharp interaction between Calliope and a fellow grunt. He's remiss to follow someone already on edge, but there's nowhere else to investigate. "Cover me." he murmured to his partner. In and out. [break][break]

The ship is a little different to most of his experience. He's used to the wilds, open skies and vegetation. High mesas and open fields. This ship is constricting, with very little to go by other than the occasional fire exit map, which he takes, gratefully. But this is agony, trialing behind a Rocket he could easily move in to kill. He spies plenty of chances, as they pass what looked like unlocked cleaning closets and empty meeting or break rooms. Sure, someone would be missing on patrol, but he could lock the door and delay the inevitable. [break][break]

But he doesn't, keeping the woman in line of sight until she isn't, having melted into her own shadows and gone off on her own course. The security office is properly labeled, and the keycard he stole off Calliope Alvara would give him entry. There's only a couple of people inside. He says nothing as he moved in, hand at his thigh resting on the hilt of a knife. [break][break]

Streenstrup is busy. She sensed...something strange coming. It's not quite oppressively, but it's familiar in its own way. Her senses feel heightened, and she's more alert. As Paxton moved into the unseen, with plenty of others to protect him, she focuses on what she can do. The perimeter of the top deck taken, she's still focuses on cameras and finding a vent into the the bottom decks.[break][break]

She finds instead that familiar presence, now a threat. The Shadow Serperior slithers by, and her metaphorical hackles rise. She prepares a SOAK tense and suddenly feeling a little more feral.

Going in alone does not scare him. He'd put himself in the line of danger so many other times, taken on an unknown threat all by himself. The battlefield takes on many different forms, but certain things still ring true.

Intelligence was king.

And Paxton had years of experience acquiring it. When he puts on his gear its like his old skin but with a new coat of paint. He breathes life into his equipment, and it, in turn, will keep him alive. Streenstrup writhes in the turbulent waters and Paxton finished his preparations. Him, and a few others would infiltrate the enemy ship, take it out from the inside, and get out without getting caught. Or, as close as he can to that. He adjusts the oxygen mask before stepping into the water and gripping onto his Octillery. The shadow octopus takes off under the water, already knowing exactly where she was headed.

She hits the side of the Rocket ship and began her trek upwards, doing he rvest to blend in while dragging her trainer along. As she did, Paxton ditched the travel gear to lighten his partner's load. She peaks over the side and then crawls over, dumping Paxton to the side.

He takes cover, gathering his bearings and beginning to figure out which way to head. Surely, there's some sort of security hub. That first. It'd make movement throughout the boat easier. “Cassidy here. Made contact with the target.” He'd report again in 15 when, hopefully, he'd made more progress. Streenstrup takes her cue, climbing with her suckers around him and pushing forward to find and disable cameras as Paxton made his way deeper into enemy territory. His pulse felt normal, and he felt tense. Kill if necessary, but don't make a mess.

Stay cool, stay in control. Stealth was of the utmost importance right now. Much like how he was relying on the League chosen to take care of the shore, he had to open the way for the League. If he didn't, what would it all be for?

No. This is what he was good at. He would take care of it. He'd be a ghost. He'd done it countless times before. No matter how many times CALLISTA MOON begged him not to. This would be no different.

He can't help but be saddened that Matias held such doubt over the Commissioner and her government. That'd be the quickest way to fall, division amongst their ranks. If they weren't in step with Dahlia, they could be conquered just as easily. Even more so, he can't help but wonder why and how Matias' own faith had been chipped away. Or if he ever really held any at all. After all, Kanto had fallen. Even with him and Eva Morales and CALLISTA MOON fighting for their lives on it.

"It matters Matias." he said sternly. "It matters, because it'll make your job of protecting this region easier." he said, brow wrinkling as he held back a sigh. Matias' focus shifts to some of their avatars and he blinks in surprise at the mention of illeana reyes but then nodded accordingly. He'd known her far longer. He assumed he was better at picking up those shifts in personality. Especially after being an avatar himself.

"I've begun pressing all of them to submit to PROJECT SAPPHIRE for testing. Our studies on avatars and the effects these pokemon can have on you all is, more than ever, crucial." there's a pause before he added. "I...understand you have doubts. But right now, our best chances of helping this region is dahlia goode . Even if you doubt her, she's the only reason you're not recovering in jail right now. Don't give them a reason to cage you, please."

It's a different kind of horror what's happening before them. Mangled in unnatural way, and definitely long gone was small girl crushed into the pavement. Harsh as he'd been only movements ago, he faltered for a moment and took a shaky breath as memories of childhood, of his own younger sister, surfaced. Hopper beeps, lowering themselves to orbit around Paxton and keeping ready to defend him and Yuina Higashi from further attack. [break][break]

That's enough to redouble his efforts, to steel himself like the very pokemon he loved. As his blood ran cold, so too did his expression become. Shocked eyes returning to that set glare. His thoughts shift as gears turn in his brain and he began to analyze. There's something strange here, beyond the horror and the loss of innocence. For a moment, the chaos of the address rings muffled in his ears and he took a glance aorund at those of his comrades still fighting, still helping. His eyes linger over the Rockets, so blatant in their terrorism. "There's something wrong with this corpse." he announced to the ranger still in his vicinity. "I'm moving in, before something else happens and she gets covered up." [break][break]

He moves back to the body, muttering to himself as he attempted to look over the cadaver. He's quick to begin to move rubble, dogged in his need to investigate. He can't quite put his finger on why. His musings as interrupted by the shift in action. Hopper alerts him, but Paxton's already watching them move around. "Don't allow them to disengage, assist the others from afar." he said. Much like it's owner, the Porygon set up above and began the counterattack. Hopper coalesced elemental energy shooting blasts at Rockets that attempted to leave. It they were lucky, TRI-ATTACK would paralyze or freeze the escaping criminals. If not, they'd just burn.
