there had been few opportunities to use his silvally, but one of such presents itself on a sudden ultra beast outbreak.

"you know what to do."

it was one of the only tasks it can trust its silvally to take seriously. the shift in disposition is clear when it faces with the creatures it was programmed to hunt, and this scenario was no exception.

their toxic chain further pushes them as lambs to the beast killer's slaughter.

as his silvally disposes of threats in their own side of the realm, his hand touches a ball from his hip. cries from the sky earn his attention, getting him anxious for any development that might happen soon.

• use a GENDER UNKNOWN OR GENDERLESS pokemon.

"a boyfriend's different from a girlfriend," he teases, coining the pet name given to him by navy's father.

it was probably inappropriate given his history, but kyle isn't know to devoutly follow tact in front of his friends anyways.

he shouldn't probably entertain it though. noah is pretty possessive as well, after all.

"then i guess we'll just be worrying about wild pokemon," he tells navy. they were culprits to stealing fruit from the dyna tree as well. "do you have an actual scary pokemon that can chase those away as well?"

kyle has his mightyena that can chase birds away and scare any other pokemon with its intimidate, but they're too noisy when they get riled up.

"don't worry about the race. we'll be on our best behavior," he tells Josh Devlin.

he's just going to have a nice, chill time like every other silph cup he has attended. placing at the middle would be ideal, as shown by their qualifiers. he didn't want to upstage, nor does he want to look bad, when recreation is his objective.

"our match is an entirely different thing though," he tells him in jest, mostly to unnverve the guy.

as talks died down, he attends to his wailmer, minimized as to not take up much space. given kyogre's situation, he figured it would be nice to train one as a platform.

on the other hand, he's not sure if a race was an appropriate test to see the fruits of their brief training.

"i'm not... really sure. she isn't really detained either."

much like tapu koko and tapu bulu, they aligned themselves with the league for their own reasons. kyle is certain they can always break out if they wanted to, especially since they already get free reign whenever people ask for them for training.

coaxed out, diancie steps out a bit further.

"i'm guessing it's loyalty to its previous avatar, and then the league pretty much just made it a home. protection is likely the pr answer but..."

kyle straightens his back, folding his arms as he exhales.

"i think its previous avatar brought it back to life and they immediately got attacked. it's such a cliched story though, so i won't be surprised if it isn't believable."

doesn't help that people are gullible enough to cling on to narratives that paint the league in a negative light as a generalization, but kyle doesn't voice it out.

kyle is the only one to come accompanied.

he takes the leaf from matias and immediately tosses it in the air at the same moment it was given, letting it fly with the breeze. he pays no mind to it at first, likening it to a dog's behavior to act cute with trivial actions.

"he should be," he answers melody. "terrakion seemed to trust him to hold his own."

in the same vein, he does know a lot of trainers who he was convinced were trying to get themselves killed by repeatedly putting themselves in dangerous situations in favor of grandeur and justice.

terrakion grunts and then turns his head to the direction they were following.

"but i guess he's still worried." he turns to melody, already knowing matias' situation with virizion. "is coballion around?"

there's acceptance in her tone, and then relief. it probably wasn't the answer she wants to hear, but it's one that satisfies her nonetheless.

"don't pander to me now. you aren't getting anything from it," he casually remarks in humor, accompanying it with a snicker. "but don't worry. i'm getting paid enough."

unlike most self-righteous representatives of the league, kyle was the only one who got in with the prospect of money, and unlike them, he has a different scaling on how much worth league work is.

as he prepares to chase after the kid he left his mightyena with, he gives one last note for her.

"stay safe, alright. remember not to be quick to put labels on everything."

the two statements were different points altogether, but were from the same conclusion he got from this encounter with her. she does seem like the type to run on emotions despite her defensiveness and supposed inquisitiveness.

he comes back from his repair to find matias against a group of mechanical pokemon. a battle is imminent, alongside a drawn out fight with armies of artificial life.

"alright."

he snaps his fingers as he runs to his retainer's side, creating ashes that swirl around an area between them and the opposing force. by the time he arrives, they have materialized into suicune and raikou.

the raikou's discharge surprisingly does little damage to what looked like robots, given that they're clockwork rather than electronic. instead, the suicune's blizzard is the one that slows down their movement better than the two attacks.

"that should stop them, right?"

kyle doesn't dismantle them and simply aimed to incapacitate, turning the unmoving machines into convenient roadblocks.

with its fur singed and burnt with every fire-type attack targeting it, the electivire chooses to rush over to the ninetales, seeing it as the weakened target.

the arcanine regains its senses with the support it got from its teammate, and it doesn't take him long to see what the condition of the fight was within the few moments it relapsed.

it barks, and dashes with extreme speed to trip the ninetales to limit its chances of recovery. the electivire was there to follow it up with its own move.

shrouded in flames, it makes a last ditch effort to rush at the dainty pokemon with giga impact. burnt and all, it relies on its weight to crush the pokemon, knowing that it can't hang on to consciousness for long.

it faints afterwards, forcing kyle to recall the pokemon now rather than waiting for another hit to fully take it out.

"i mean, if that's what you call lunch with friends, then maybe," he teases. "do you want to see me sit alone at a restaurant?"

kyle doesn't leave lutgarde's question unanswered for long.

"it's uncommon, but yeah. it happens from time to time."

they find themselves some breathing room after the short skirmish. it was short and brief, but the situation it entailed presented a danger that couldn't be ignored.

as the wattrel falls, kyle turns defensive and backs away regardless of their win.

"we should still get going," he suggests. "if the crystals around here are big enough to transform a wild pokemon, then--"

a roar interrupts him.

from the sky, an iron jugulis looms over them. paradox pokemon make their home where terastral crystals were as far as kyle knows, and they were bound to find them sooner or later.

"maybe, maybe not," he teases. "this match could help, but at the end of the day, there's no point if it's going to tempt you back to your old ways."

they already addressed most of josh's blunders that barred him form a title such as the elite four. aqua, a similar prestige, demanded more. this match can constitute as a practical test, but skills were only but a part of it.

personally, kyle was against it given the current circumstances. disturbing the healing process is bound to incur scars on josh's road to self-improvement.

"i'm not saying you should settle. i'm saying not to get greedy and rush the journey to character development." he chuckles as he motions a pokemon from the back of the room. "you're already doing great in addressing your faults. adding responsibilities right now is going to risk undoing all that."

kyle still thinks it's a possibility in the future.

entei comes out from the shadows, having been lying down beside the throne at the end of the chamber. it saunters up to face josh's pokemon, as if ready to face the handicap.

unbeknown to most, something lurks within its shadows.

"your move."

although two of them are able to withstand the strong winds of the charizard, the smokescreen would be the one that would prove itself troublesome.

if only kyle wasn't a trainer who trained k9 units for the police, specialized in tracking even in the worst conditions, who currently uses pokemon that benefit from said training in their match.

"why?" he asks his challenger, "it's not like you're playing to your strengths right now. oh, you're trying to make it interesting, right?"

what he was facing wasn't navy's usual style in battle, and is more similar to his. in the same vein, kyle approaches the fight with the opposing trainer's routine approach.

a low whistle from kyle sounds.

aura sense from the lucario aids the loss of his sense of sight. it marks the target with a spear of bone rush, throwing it up the sky to the charizard's location as it pierces through strong winds of the hurricane.

it communicates with the lycanroc with a bark, and then pushes the pokemon, who made a running start to use the lucario as a step, up, following the direction of the move it threw earlier.

flying in the air, the wolf pokemon encrusts its fist with sharpened rocks as it attempts to hit the charizard with a punch infused with stone edge up in the air.

the heavy hit gets the electivire out of its trance. it almost tips over on its weight, but catches his balance at the last moment.

with the ninetales concentrated on the arcanine, the electivire takes up the role of freeing the arcanine from its own confusion by targeting the distracted fire-type. a dynamic punch is swung in the midst of its attack, ignoring the raboot that had attacked it.

the arcanine, on the other hand, attempts to withstand the ninetale's. overheat comes as a byproduct of its endurance, letting out bursts of flames all over its body. all pokemon are in range, but given electivire's typing, it's the one that was in danger of taking the most damage out of it.

"do you like johto-style ramen?" he asks cian.

"don't worry about it," he dismisses easily and casually. "it's not really a big deal."

although the experience was harrowing, it wasn't too different than what most other people experience. kyle thinks he still has it easy compared to those who purposely involve themselves in complicated messes, such as the person in front of him.

regardless, they have a hunt to do. surprisingly, one appears at a convenient time.

"maybe if you stand on its back like a scooter or something, then you can see above its thing," he tries to argue, but it's too much of a stretch that it becomes an obvious joke.

from his waist, he takes out a pokemon: one that navy will be familiar of its use.

"you should catch one and try it."

he whistles to his pokemon afterwards. a howl triggers a song for a rain dance, summoning clouds that bring a drizzle to the battlefield. effective against a fire-type like entei, and effective against a paradox pokemon that relies on the sun.
