rocks, while not as damaging as they should be against a behemoth like kyogre, proved its worth through practicality.

the weight of such attack brings splashes to the kyogre, held down by both suicune and raikou. along with chunks of ice it broke from its fall, it pushes the kyogre away due to its buoyancy.

it could turn and fight back, but the corruption in its head leaves it with a one-track mind.

the slight turn away from the city is enough to get its attention away, especially with the offenders quickly escaping the scene and the decoys in suicune and raikou disappearing with the same cloud of ash they appeared from.

"tell me if it's still going for the city. we're making a u-turn if that stuff wasn't effective!"

he would say it's surprising, but kyle knows trends of the region long enough to know the obvious solutions wouldn't be applicable.

if even rayquaza can't quell it, then outside interference would be their next best bet.

"i tried a front that only i can do: sacred fire. it didn't work for obvious reasons." it purifies, much like the name suggests. "oh right, i forgot i'm not the only one that can do purification anymore. never mind."

he supposed that niche is now lost to him as well given the appearance of a suicune avatar.

kyle sighs of defeat, deflating by the railings as he hangs by.

"if things go the way as they did in the past, then the best course of action is to wait for something new to happen and hope that stirs enough irregularities to create an opening for this scenario."

his head turns to the councilwoman.

"that's not an answer that everyone wants to hear though, right?"

"you're married to ho-oh's avatar," kyle points out. "i heard that means i'm the best good luck that there is."

it's one of the small fun facts that remain in his head after reading about ho-oh at ecruteak's library. the rest have been lost in memory, only to come and go whenever it's convenient in account of ho-oh's own influence on him.

kyle takes the first bite of his berger and chews.

"hey, since it's been a while, do you still remember our actual anniversary?"

the topic of time came from noah. it's only natural for kyle to subtly nudge it forward since he, himself, has forgotten about it. framing it as a quiz doesn't implicate him.

he looks at noah, blinks and then turns to the mirror.

"do you want to switch again?"

the bulbayena hoodie does look good on him, if he discounts how wrong the size was on him. noah and him do have differing preference in style.

kyle starts to undo his belt and takes his shirt of.

"let's do another switch," he says, pivoting swiftly to noah. "we still have time before our reservation, right?"

it was imperative for a thorough investigation of the latest major event's site right after it happened, especially for a person as inquisitive as kyle.

he goes on his free time, accompanied by a pokemon who saw copies of itself during the attack. curiosity fuels the trip despite the dangers, knowing that the experience gets ruined the longer that the area remains open for the public.

"oh."

kyle spots one of such people who would explore any new area of the region. he can't blame them since he was one of those.

"are you here to look for stragglers too?"

the paradox pokemon that came out during the attack was different from the ones they usually see. it wasn't surprising if other people wanted to catch more.

kyle grabs one of the gears lying around and inserts it to a mechanism by the gate, connecting a lever to the clockwork pulley system of the mechanical kingdom. a stomp sets it in place before kyle rushes to pull a lever.

"matias, assist the dog!"

the creaking of the gates almost drowns kyle's voice, though the instruction wasn't needed with how intuitive the situation was.

a mightyena has been chasing after the zygarde cell straight to the gate. it has happened before, and kyle has preemptively opened the way for them to go for it unimpeded by obstacles.

this wasn't their first rodeo with these cells.

03 spot a zygarde cell that flees, leading your character into a sticky situation.

🗺️ THE METAL GEAR can be used to activate a gate, machine, or any other gear-based mechanism to overcome an obstacle. doing so can help pursue and catch the fleeing ZYGARDE CELL for the LEAGUE to study.

"lessen the load, then," he instructs the volatile. "if you're feeling uneasy, then we better get out fast."

and carrying more weight on them is doing the opposite of that.

with the sygna suit's protection, the effects of the environment is lessened. matias doesn't have one though, and kyle sees the urgency to return quick.

whatever rocks they mined that they have to leave can be returned to. risking matias' mental breaking can have effects that they cannot come back to, just like the elite four's last trip here.

"don't bother understanding everything at once." kyle waves his hand dismissively in front of his face. "common sense doesn't apply to them. you're better off finding trends in their logic and acting on that."

kind of like how you would answer a multiple choice exam when you haven't studied. once you know the context of their behavior given their stories, it becomes easier to act accordingly.

kyle would never understand them, but he can at least predict their next actions. his actions would do little to stop them, but it helps him survive.

"alright, i'll give you a call then once i made arrangements. you don't mind if i ask the ranger database your contact info, right?"

it was work hours for her as far as he knows. he's not sure if employees are allowed to use their phones by museum rules, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

if he's wrong, he can always be corrected.

"companionship." it's the one thing he cannot have. "but you aren't wrong with your assessment."

he can't have it with the league since his radical mindset doesn't fit the league's values, and desperation drives him to cross the border between two sides.

"he's clinging on to you since you have something he can relate with. it's different from him and i, since i'm the one that wants him close."

he gets up to get their cups from the table back to the kitchen.

"i would suggest trying to find that one thing you have in common and ruin it for him to break his obsession with you, but i really need you around so he doesn't bother the next person."

there's a smile on his expression, hiding the celebration of his rambling with the conclusion of their arrangements. he wasn't sure of what to say, and sweet nothings were able to fill the air at least.

"that'll be great!"

it was likely that he'll make excuses on how the trip down the quaint oceanic town was related to work anyways had he not been excuse. with talks about national security, it was easy to make reports sating locals' paranoia.

he returns the book back to his drawer as he kicks back from his seat and stretches.

"that means i have to finish this proposal then." with less time to work with it with upcoming events and then this scheduled trip, he's running late on his schedule. "i hope you'll like it, councilwoman morningstar."

he regrets calling her her title alongside her surname. it was a mouthful and wasn't as catchy as he'd hope for.

he alights a spectrier he befriended from a long time ago when he spots a grieving gym leader. the gallop of his pokemon marks his arrival, and his greeting signals companionship.

"oh, good. i didn't waste my trip here."

they were but a whisper, but it's something that carelessly escaped his mouth nonetheless. his words appears tone deaf, which he immediately tried to fix with his next statement.

"i asked your staff at the gym where you were. how are you holding up?"

he's heard from about what happened back then when he questioned him about the sudden responsibility given to him, and even if he had not, the location given to him by the gym staff says it all.

gwyar is taking things with safety in mind.

kyle doesn't mind being reckless with these kinds of missions since that's how used he is with these sitautions, but he gets him. the champion is usually the one taking the initiative to slow it down, but it felt refreshing for someone else to observe it.

he carries the sword around, following after the knight, but the weight and size of it eventually works against their favor within the tight corridors of their hideout.

a metallic clang echoes. it was faint and soft, but it's a foreign sound in an otherwise quiet secret base.

the vital city tournament was a nice event, but every big event like it was bound to get vandalism resulting from crowds of people without a care.

with other volunteers help restore the image of lilycove back, kyle cannot help but get himself involved in the efforts. his job, thanks to his reputation of using smeargle, was to cover up needless graffiti left by kids from the tournament.

using a brush to aid his smeargle from covering the vandalism within the city, he turns his head nad notices a resident of the city.

"oi, melody!" he calls from afar. "are you here to help out too?"

she's used to vandalism, especially after what happened to her gym back at sootopolis. surely, she has some sort of reaction towards the ones left in lilycove.
