the collection of dogs in the same place of interest seemed more than a coincidence to bait kyle in, and it was successful.

he dons his sygna suit and activates it with the appearance of his smeargle. the sense of being a michelangelo of their generation fills him as they sync, ordering his smeargle to imprison each of the wild pokemon to stop them from wasting their precious sketch.

pseudo-avatarship takes place afterwards, with kyle borrowing his pokemon's moves. as he attempts roar of time, a sense of dread weighs him down with pressure.

a sigil appears above him, and he feels the similar implications of imprison being set upon him.

his heart starts to beat fast. he had a similar warning before, when he attempted to break through the limitations of space travel set during the meteno crisis.

his smeargle turns his back on his trainer, sensing the uneasiness he rarely felt during syncs that differs from the fear and panic that occurs during fights against the supernatural.

kyle swallows, gives up on a strat to ensure a capture of one, and tosses a pokeball at one of the smeargle.

he blinks when elisabeth fails to finish a sentence, but lets it die off when she does.

"he likes you enough to force himself to get interested," he affirms her. "maybe your definition differs from his, but it's the truth that he gives you attention that very few people get from him."

it is exactly because he is his friend that he's telling this.

"you're also putting up with him regardless of how much you say you don't like him." she probably doesn't realize the contradiction of her statements and her actions, kyle thinks. "is it possible that there's irony in your words?"

he teases this time, hinted with a playful smirk, in an attempt to inch towards the underboss' fragile interior.

harcourt. the surname makes him smile out of reminiscence.

it puts his interest from the topic elsewhere. freya's own connections start to pique his curiosity, especially since he knows that the number of families that know of the language was abysmally small.

"how about the ones residing at meteor falls?" he asks. "you know, those that open up their dragon's den every new year?"

maybe freya's parents were just a family friend of theirs or something, much like his relationship with blackthorn's own clan of dragons.

"have you tried talking to them with draconic when you visited?"

it's just an assumption that everyone visits. hoenn is small, and anything interesting that happens in the region is bound to get attention.

he always forgets to introduce himself, figuring he'd only meet people once or twice. it was the other's introduction that reminds him that this was common courtesy.

"oh, right. you can call me kyle."

as soon as they were situated in the boat, kyle gives the growlithe one last scratch by the chin before starting the motor.

kyle doesn't pull the stops when he speeds through the water. winds from their speed and the noise from the boat itself makes it difficult to talk, but kyle raises the volume of his voice to compensate.

"we'll do a drive by! feel free to go all in on your attacks," he briefs eddie. "we won't be able to take it down anyways, so we just need to let it know it's a nuisance around here."

it wasn't safe, but it definitely has the least risk compared to the other approaches his daredevil friends have attempted.

was he really that smart or does he just have common sense?

"that's how i got the position, i guess."

maybe that was what sets him apart from the rest of hoenn's best. while they may have the actual academic knowledge, the social standing, the silver tongue, and other advantages in life, he got the best gift of them all: common sense.

it's a shame it doesn't work anymore when it comes to hoenn's natural disasters.

"at least we can save the blooms now. come on, let's dig it up."

with the source of warmth nearby, kyle doesn't shy away from going all out with digging anymore.

he grumbles, but in a way that plays with the bit they were doing rather than genuine complaining.

just as the conversation is about to die, the tunnel they are traveling to starts to widen, only to be met with a wall. it seemed like solid rock at first, but a close look shows that it's a result of a cave in.

"looks like we're at the 'end of the tunnel', am i right?"

he doesn't laugh, but he makes the joke, likening it to cian's journey to attaining the champion rank while simultaneously being literally at the end of a tunnel.

kyle knocks on it.

"do you think it's safe to blow it up? it looks like there's something behind this."

kyle holds on to the railing of the ship, careful not to get thrown out by the ravaging waves of the torrential sea.

"yeah, that's too ambitious," says kyle, the least ambitious member of league's upper echelons. "the most realistic thing we can do is find a way to calm it down."

he had found an angle, but it never was enough.

his head swivels to the councilwoman's direction, playfully leaning back as his weight hangs on to his arms that clutched on the ship's palisade.

"i tried a few things of my own, but none of them worked. has anyone reported anything close to doing anything effective at it? maybe eva?"

according to legends, and rayquaza should be able to calm it down. kyle's own experience with his previous encounter with kyogre doesn't seem to support the narrative that this situation was the same as of the ones told by hoennian stories.

"yup. both league and rocket have them in their ranks," he answers yuina. "it really makes you think if they just want to play games with the current state of the region, right?"

those active in the field tend to be the preferred candidates of the legends in question. the more involved they are at the state of affairs, it seemed more likely that they are chosen.

kyle doesn't share that observation though, since he doesn't have any valid reference for the claim.

"about numbers, that i personally don't know." his shoulders give way to a shrug. "i'm not really a fan of history lessons, but you can bet there's at least one for each story out there."

looking around, it seems thematic that they do talk about it in a museum.

"it's more reason to take a visit to one of them, right? whether you like the implications of their existence or not, it's always better to have some sort of understanding on them."

I can't take it anymore. I'm sick of smeargle. I try to play arcanine. My smeargle deals more damage. I try to play mega manectric. My smeargle deals more damage. I try to play sygna suit mightyena. My smeargle deals more damage. I want to play ho-oh. His best team has smeargle. I want to play entei, terrakion. They both want smeargle.

He grabs me by the throat. I sygna suit for him. I give an extra move slot for him. I give him exclusive moves. He isn't satisfied. I teach him spatial rend. "I don't need this much space" He tells me. "Give me more roar of time." He grabs silvally and forces him to throw himself off enemies. "You just need to funnel me more. I can deal more damage with Photon Geyser."

I can't teach him Photon Geyser, The npc necrozma doesn't use it. He grabs my solgaleo to travel dimensions. It declines. "Guess this is the end." He grabs a z-crystal. He says "z-shadow force." There is no hint of sadness in his eyes. Nothing but pure, +6 252+ Atk Choice Band Smeargle Helping Hand Power Spot boosted Never-Ending Nightmare. What a cruel world.

dragons have been terrorizing the place lately, and it's the recent attacks on the cable car that escalated the situation enough for people to call in help.

kyle responds to it, mostly because he'd rather be the one to contact the person who feels close with the volcano.

ur favorite place is under attack. s.o.s.!!!


the message he sent him was exaggerated to a point of a joke, but he does want matias around for this operation. besides, he's sure he'll be happy to be around mt. chimney again.

kyle sits around by the entrance of the top station of the cable car to be visible. his eyes wander to the skies, where he watches a bunch of dragons flying around recklessly.
