"hey."

his voice from above the staircase disturbs the soft snores from the sleeping silvally downstairs. it lifts its head up and turns its attention to its trainer.

"do you think you can eat this?" he offers, showing him a piece of the crystal he got from megalopolis. "it's from ultra space. i'm sure you'll love them as much as you love ripping ultra beasts to shreds."

kyle tosses it down, falling from one step to the other until it rolls to the silvally's talons. the familiar rock barely gets its attention since it does see something familiar whenever a certain memory gets inserted in him.

there's disappointment in kyle when all it does is move it slightly with its beak.

"i thought for sure you'd like it. it's a renewable source too since they just grow from those megalopolans for free..."

on hindsight, he's just not sure if his silvally wasn't naturally a mineral eater or if it was just picky with food after kyle has categorized what kind of food it likes and fed it whatever was on the top.

kyle finds himself walking alone all the way to mauville from verdanturf. it's a walk to clear his mind, but old habits die hard.

the arcade becomes the place of interest when he coincidentally passes one by. the flashy lights and the childish beeps of the machines suck him in like a flame to a moth. unable to resist the temptation, he goes in, only to find someone else he recognizes inside.

both of them look surprised at each other's presence, it seemed.

"he's used to my irregular work schedules," he answers with humor. "besides, this place is more of my hangout. i should be surprised you're here."

kyle realizes he didn't answer the question.

"i'm just here for a walk. these places are more fun to visit when the kids are out."

a form rushes by and pushes the blissey away with a torrent of water.

a suicune appears from the sacred ash, its form shifting to the one they saw at the terastral caverns underneath evergrande. like static, its image stutters from one form to another.

"come on, just tell me what she is to you. they did find letters beyond business transactions between you two," he pries, knife still pointed at matias. "please don't try to dodge the question again."

"oh, wow. usually people don't trust the league enough to decide that quick."

kyle shifts his stare to suicune. perhaps, by association, his chosen, too, was also an emergent by their own right.

he speaks from the heart, it seems like. a deep-seated resolve most likely lies underneath the eagerness. he already has navy to break the status quo of logic-oriented arguments in the room with those of morality. another one of his kind to sow discord and discourse would be nice to have.

"b-but are you sure? you could have said you'll think about it first before getting my hopes up."

a sigh. kyle turns back to isaac. like the sudden appearance of crystalblooms in the region's ecosystems, kyle attempts to take a claim to one of hoenn's demography's rare specimens.

"we can start the screening now if you've already decided."

he blinks, and tries to connect points of information isaac has mentioned throughout the entirety of their encounter now.

"hbic...?" he makes the connection, and clarity from things said earlier now makes sense. "oh. oh! you're one of those guys!"

despite being particularly close with another defector in cian, he barely knows anything about them besides what was associated with the organization.

"those things shouldn't matter anyways as soon as you get scouted for aqua."

a lot of steps and reconsideration are skipped. whether they are an avatar or not, a connection with suicune was all it takes for one to be eligible, though it doesn't mean anything in kyle's terms.

"i would set you up for screening if you want to help out with those kinds of stuff easier, but do you want to? i just got someone in, but i'm sure they won't mind another one."

the fire-type falls from the earthquake, but the mightyena stands strong, albeit miffed that it didn't look cool while trying to stabilize his footing under the move.

with no other pokemon left, the mightyena fights one versus two.

it takes the challenge, taunting the blissey to come fight it as well. he knows it wouldn't be an actual fair fight though, since the kangaskhan is still attracted to him.

"...i'll double check records then if your other fights with the elite four aren't publicized."

"did you forget i'm part of the problem?" he humors navy. "the oath i took barely meant anything to me."

a baton breaks a knee-cap of a grunt that sneaked up on navy from behind. his foot kicks their head, knocking it out before turning to fire off a stun gun towards one of them that was barely out of reach.

turning to the sheriff, kyle finds himself wrinkling his nose in disgust. "that's so messy though," he whines. "someone's going to slip and fall from all these blood you're leaving behind."

another whack to a grunt breaks the chain of comments he was ready to make.

he whistles in the midst of the slog of a fight. his poochyena howls it up, which somehow helps their performance in this hack-and-slash sidescroller.

the salt cure, although washed away by vaporeon's water, has already done its damage when melody issues her next moves.

a double team from the opposite side quickly gets the honedge down. kyle shoots a laser to recall it back to its ball, with a second one following soon after, taking the water-type off the field.

"no point in continuing this with just vaporeon," he explains. eyes flick from the field to melody's. "congrats."

he claps, and then the audience follows.

the commentator spouts congratulatory statements about the elite four as kyle raises a hand on his way down his platform.

the big screen features melody as the camera is directed at her. alongside the media she invited, reporters and interviews would follow the fanfare. kyle decides it's best to take his leave while the spotlight is still on melody.

he would've stayed, but he isn't comfortable with attention.

the dome breaks down and what was left was a scarecrow of an ultra beast. the combination of matias and solgaleo's efforts makes sure that the blacephalon wouldn't act anytime soon.

"they always keep getting to us," kyle complains as he gets up. "i think we should head back. there's probably more of them."

the fact that they are fallers, or how it affects them, is still unknown to him.

he whistles for his solgaleo's attention and signs a circle with a finger to signal a wormhole. it finds ease in making one in this dimension, and one immediately appears for them to take.

"we'll continue searching the rest of the area later, i suppose."

they are disturbed by a hulking piece of metal. its weight should have been evident with the trembles by its wake, but surprisingly, the metagross before htem appears to be lighter than normal.

"huh. who would've thought one of them finds their way here."

it raises one of its steel legs, and comes in at them with a bullet punch. kyle would be ready to defend with his abilities, but he gives the spectrier a chance for action.

a shadow ball blasts the metagross on its charge, putting it on a daze for kyle to throw a pokeball out. it's better to catch it in the middle of the fight before they further defile mt. pyre, he figured.

he still has to visit his fallen comrades, he remembered. maybe a crystalbloom would be too fancy for them, so he purges the thought from his head.

the necrozma memory is attached to the silvally.

kyle watches the pokemon grow black crystals. only after taking a visit to ultra space does he connect the obvious. he has had his silvally, and then his solgaleo, and finally, a chunk of the crystal he carved out of a corpse.

a fourth piece was a treasured possession: a black knife he turned into a mega accessory.

"are you connected to galar?" he asks the silvally.

it sleeps on the floor, curled into a ball and undisturbed by the transformation that took place with its rks system.

kyle starts to stab the crystallized areas of the silvally with the same knife, finding nothing but his knife deflecting every time. it doesn't result to anything but the metallic clinks.

"i wonder if i should call that person robin as well," he asks his pokemon. "he doesn't like talking either, and he's full of crystals too. he's kinda like you."

the pokemon doesn't stir at his trainer's ramblings.

"good boy," he teasingly calls him.

with arms around matias, he yanks him closer. kyle plants his lips on his. a kiss can just be a kiss, but it hits different right after the deal has been sealed.

there was relief that his ending has reached its conclusion, but it is joy that his heart feels the best at the moment. breaking free from the contact, his hand touches matias in a haze of heat.

"you're mine, huh?" his hand grips matias' shirt and drags it upwards. "then give me what i want."

"yeah, i just told you."

the use of a move to execute another gives the mightyena some delay to recover from its last move and focus on the battlefield. protect blocks the blissey's own charms. delta, india's brother from another mother, has standards.

the ninetales, sick of the fat blob, rushes at it. using it's same type attack bonus, which most captains wouldn't know of, the fire-type starts its fire-type attack and fires (hehe) a fire blast at the blissey up close.

"am i really the only one?"

"do you want to search her with me?" he asks matias. "my mightyena still has her trail."

he turns to take a survey of what remains in the humble shack.

"she won't be back here, though. all signs lead to her abandoning the place in favor of another base of operations."

base of operations. kyle didn't realize he used an incriminating term for her. he supposed it doesn't matter, since the people who went to investigate before him has already proven such.

a sigh escapes him. "i really wouldn't mind crystalblooms for real though." he could share some with since he loves them.

he holds his head, and eventually, the agitation goes away. "better," he answers after a deep breath.

"the florist- er, the ruination's avatar," he starts to explain. "she does things to the mind. i'm trying to test things out if there's a solution for regular people."

such as non-avatar people, or those without the aid of a legend, or if he was in his sygna suit and infinity energy prohibits him from doing his thing.

"thanks. i suppose i was getting worked up about it too much." he turns to entei and ruffles the thick patch of fur by its neck. a heavy sigh follows. "then again, it would be unfair power scaling if an avatar gets an ability that is easily countered by regular means."

he supposed he should give up for now. it's the same worthless grind he's used to for the past few years since hoenn has been under attack by supernatural forces.

"next time you see me doing something illogical, please don't hesitate to knock some sense out of me," he informs the suicune's... friend? avatar?
