Good idea? Now that was a combination of words the eccentric trainer was not used to hearing. There was a catch, of course, because there always was. Any substantial change needed to happen on a top-down level, and the people at the top did not always see eye to eye.

"Maybe they won't have to listen to just you, but to us--to everyone!" Andrea had a sudden epiphany, her face alight with optimism. "Yes, that's it! If the people are loud enough, then their leaders will HAVE to listen!"

The voice of the people was a powerful tool. Was that not the essence of democracy? When the people were silent, those at the top took it as a carte blanche to do anything they wanted no matter who got impacted by their decisions.

"Hoo boy, that almost got political!" The young PokéManiac remarked with a chuckle. "What I'm trying to say is you don't have to do this on your own. I wanna help any way I can. If you need a venue, for example, my Gym's always been open to Rocket members."

A blue mask? Why would they let them take off their masks only to force them to wear another one? And wearing it made him peer into that other life in Galar he had long bidden goodbye to, except the Loyal Three were there like self-inserts injected into a fanfic.

It didn't take a psychic to tell that Josh was daydreaming about racing. It was his happy place, after all. Andrea, too, wished she could be playing with her Pokémon in her family's ranch, hanging out with the girlygang, or soaring the skies in her Sygna Suit.

"Chomper was unharmed... I hope. He was breathing, but he didn't respond to me at all. It was like he was hibernating." The dragon lover explained, glancing over the tube where Raikiri was. "You think others might look more sickly because they've done something to them?"

She didn't want to even think about it, but there was a very real chance that the Megalopolans were running experiments on their Pokémon. They had seen hints of advanced technology through the Tera Crystal feeds. Could there be a laboratory somewhere?

Upon waking up from the dream, the throbbing pain and bone-chilling cold came back twofold, rendering her whole body wobbly and numb. The dragon maiden accidentally elbowed Johanna Joy while trying to get up from their shared cot. “Ugh… S-sorry…”

It was customary to say ‘Good Morning’ at the beginning of a new day, but the mornings in the Dummy Ward were anything but good. Slave labor, punishment, and ridicule became their everyday routine. Andrea did not try to steal again. She had learned her lesson the first time.

When lunchtime came, her abusers taunted her with the tantalizing, mouth-watering smell of mochi. Mochi that she greedily devoured. It was enough to fool her hunger, but never to sate it. As the days passed, she began to fantasize about eating a hamburger or a steak instead, which only made her feel more unfulfilled.

Her once healthy and robust body slowly wasted away from mistreatment and undernourishment. That stupid mask did a good job of hiding her pallid complexion and sunken eyes. Every day spent without her Pokémon made her increasingly worried about their fate, further deteriorating her mental state.

If there was one thing that kept her going, it was thinking about the green-clad ogre. If they could somehow free it from its Toxic Chain entanglement, it could perhaps aid their prison break. With the passage of time, that vain hope became an unhealthy obsession--her very own ‘Chamber of Desires’.

Each session in the feeding pit left Andrea more bruised and battered than the last, as she continuously threw herself in front of the rampaging Oni in an attempt to pacify its blind rage. Her very niche talent of perfectly mimicking the ogre’s cry became her calling card.

“PON! PON! PON!” The eccentric girl latched onto the ogre’s vines, letting it drag her along the filthy, mushy pit. Her hands bled from thorns breaking her skin, yet she refused to let go. Every time she pulled this reckless stunt, she was able to hold on a little longer thanks to the ogre growing more tired.

And every time, she recited a variation of the same heartfelt appeal. “I know you can hear me! You don’t have to be the never-rot’s slave! Let us help you! We can escape this Hell together! And then we could be friends! There are good humans down here who won’t care that you’re an Oni! You’ll never get chased out of festivals again!”

If the only move known by the beast was Spark, then it would not be much of a threat if it turned against them. That thought briefly crossed the young woman’s mind, but she did not say it out loud, for she knew how much Josh valued his feline companion.

Speaking of feline companions, the being inside the tube turned out to be none other than Raikou’s weird cousin, Zeraora. Not just any Zeraora, but the one he valued almost as much as the big cat itself. Andrea hugged her despairing friend from behind. “I know how you feel… Chomper was in a tube just like that one. We can’t break them out. Trust me, I tried…” She said consolingly.

There was a silver lining in all this. If their Pokémon were in the dream world too, that meant they were alive, at least for now. There was a chance, however small, to save them. “Wherever they are in the real world, we’ll get them out. I won’t let any more of them die…”

The Hitmonchan’s boxing glove crackling with a thunder god’s might was an omen of things to come. “Buzz-Buzz, counter it with your own Thunder Punch!” Two electrified fists collided, the same move used by different fighters. Whose will would prove the strongest?

Realizing that her opponent was guarding against her vocal assault, Kokoro switched tactics, summoning a shower of Draco Meteors. The meteorites ricocheted off the metal fencing, some of them redirected at Chesnaught’s blind spot. The rest impacted the ring, riddling the canvas with holes.

“I’ve wanted to become a Pokémon ever since I was little!” Andrea was able to reply to Noah’s inquiry now that her dragon was no longer making a ruckus. “I’m not unhappy the way I am right now, but you don’t just give up on your childhood dream!”

Being reminded about the cold was unnecessary. It was as if she could still feel the piercing waters pouring down from the ceiling of that mochi-infested pit. Hypothermia was yet another entry in the long list of things that could kill them in that hellish prison.

Josh did raise a good question, though: Where were they exactly. "I dunno. There's a ton of Tera Crystals around, so... Area Zero maybe? That's close enough to the Icelands." Andrea guessed, but it was all conjecture with no solid evidence.

"Even if they knew the sign, isn't Raikou supposed to only take orders from you?" The thought that such a powerful creature could be turned against them was scary. Especially if all it took was the equivalent of stealing someone's credit card and PIN.

Her friend directed her attention to one of the test tubes housing a pocket monster whose form was yet unseen. "Who's that Pokémon..." Andrea inquired, squinting her eyes hard at the obscured figure.

As soon as Navy fell down a spiral of self-loathing, Andrea tried to console him just as her cellmate had done for her. “Hey… It’s okay. You did what you could, and they gave you no choice.” She said, kneeling down and placing a hand on the sheriff’s shoulder.

Knowing that the uglies had been forced to vote eased some of her worries. Yes, people still acted selfishly, but under similar conditions, who’s to say she wouldn’t have done the same thing? Hell brought the worst out of even the best of men, and she was by no means perfect.

The Elite Four member did mention that voting for the downfall of their fellow men had only been part of their so-called reward. “What happened after that?” Asked Andrea. “They said the ward that did the most work would get to go to a good place. Was that a lie too?”

This collective hallucination was a much needed reprieve from their harsh reality. Here, Andrea felt free. Here, she did not feel cold. Here, she did not feel in pain. If prison was Hell, then surely this had to be Heaven, no?

No. While bright and colorful, this unsullied utopia was not her version of paradise. She was, in essence, still caged. True freedom would be the ability to fly far away from anything that reminded her she was a slave, and return to Hoenn. That was her homeland.

While in the dream world, she came across Josh Devlin, whose presence both soothed her and vexed her. She found Navy in one of the alleys, a husk of his former self. She also ran into people unfamiliar to her, and gained valuable information about the other wards.
[break][break]
Then, a thought occurred to her: If every imprisoned soul shared this dream, including a bunch of amnesiac aliens, then surely she had to be here too.
[break][break]
The ogre was the key. Others saw her as a monster, but thanks to the RKS Simulation, Andrea knew that she was just a lonely child craving acceptance and companionship. Perhaps the way to escape their hellish imprisonment would not be through hatred and aggression, but by showing unconditional love to a child that deserved it.

The young woman cupped her hands around her mouth and imitated the ogre’s cry. “PON! PON! PON!” She continued to strain her vocal cords throughout the city block, hoping for an answer. “If you can hear me, please say something! I’m not mad at you for hurting me! I know you didn’t mean to! I just wanna be your friend! Remember my voice when you wake up!”

Whether he was speaking the truth or a muddled version of it, Andrea chose to take the sheriff's word for it, because believing that their friends were unharmed was the option that let her sleep at night. A peaceful sleep was vital in order to maintain this dreamlike illusion.

An ephemeral pause followed the reveal that Navy was part of the Ugly Ward--the snakes, as DESIREE BLOOMS called them. Unlike her fellow girlygang member, Andrea held no vitriol for the uglies. It would be unfair to hate someone without knowing the full picture.

"Yeah, I've met Baki. How is she holding up?" Was the PokéManiac's first question. "I'm in Dummy, actually. I share a cell with Johanna Joy. Dunno what Melody's voice sounds like, but I did recognize Ettie, Desiree, and I think Isaac and Eris." She told him what she knew.

Then came the question that was gnawing away at her. "W-when they..." The girl visibly shivered. "When they punished us and the Weakling Ward, they told us that you voted for us to get a worse punishment. That you thought we 'deserved' it. Is that true?"

The dragon maiden was taken aback by Noel's dead serious stare. Why did he want to know about that creature so badly? "Well, according to Doug, they're an avatar of Necrozma that got mutated somehow. And they're from Team Rocket. That's all he knows."

Andrea had her own contacts within the crime syndicate who could confirm or deny whether they had a Necrozma avatar in their ranks. For obvious reasons, she refrained from divulging this to the blue-haired ranger.

"Why are you asking all this?" She instead inquired. "Were you attacked by the crystal man too?"
