Ollie grinned.

[break][break] "Yujin and Ollie together again ~" he joined in, gloved fingers grasping against red rooftile as he glanced sideways at her, wearing a similar wetsuit, except his was yellow and gold, with the HEAD RANGER bright red emblem in the center of his chest. It was a bit deja-vu seeing here here, especially after all this time, but that didn't mean he wasn't absolutely thrilled about it. He kicked his feet in the open air.

[break][break] "I honestly can't believe that you're here," he said, pushing himself off the rooftile, to peer over her shoulder at her work on her laptop. His arms crossed over his chest. "But god am I glad that you are — really, thanks Yujin. Without your tech, this would be a lot harder."

[break][break] He nodded, pointing at a spot of red dots on her map.

[break][break] "Let's start there. I haven't sent anyone over yet."

[break][break] Clicking a pokeball of his belt, he released his WALKING WAKE, one of the newer beasts in his possession. He jumped off the roof, landing onto the gargantuan creature's body, grasping the reins of it's hair tightly in a fist. The pokemon roared, but eventually settled — it had taken a bit of work, but he now had a working relationship with the beast.

[break][break] He looks at her, eyes sparking with mirth.

[break][break] "You coming? First one there's a Slowpoke!"

[break][break] With that, the dinosaur kicked off with a mighty roar, before they were speeding forward through the roaring waves.

"we should be quick," ollie said, nodding with agreement. "i just got a call saying that there might be a frenzied gyarados headed this way too."

[break][break] the head ranger, sitting atop his PIDGEOT, glanced down at his navi-watch, the one that he was testing out thanks to Yujin Ha. on its screen, he could see the GPS locations of all the rangers deployed for the day.

[break][break] "right! let's go!"

[break][break] with a sharp whistle, the head ranger led the way down towards the building and the stranded civilians. he would let jack wainwright handle the wild pokemon, for now.

[break][break] "c'mon, everyone. it's going to be okay! we'll get to you for safety."

[break][break] releasing several pokeballs that contained pokemon borrowed from freya morningstar's draciary.

[break][break] "take your time - if you need help getting on board, let me know."

[break][break] some civilians seemed more cautious than others, blinking wide eyes at beautiful, shimmering scales that could only be a product of morningstar's prodigious line.

[break][break] Ollie had kicked off the ground without thinking about it, not realizing that his trajectory that had been off. The MYSTICAL FIRE that had been sent barreling towards them was suddenly much closer than he ever realized it being —

[break][break] And suddenly, just like that, the whole world was on fire.

[break][break] "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

[break][break] The scream of agony tore from his throat, unwittingly getting leaked into the LEAGUE COMMS that had been turned on ever since he breached Sootopolis Bay. His words of courage and pride, meant to bolster his Rangers and fellow League allies, were being used against him as his suffering was broadcasted for all to listen to.

[break][break] PENELOPE LIVY, Caleb Harcourt, Raziel Beckett, annalise henderson, Laurence Anderson — anyone listening into the communication channels, who weren't too absorbed by their own fights, might have unwittingly paid witness to the sudden carnage of the League's only Head Ranger, engulfed in violent flame.

[break][break] The wind and rain that whipped around them lessened the attack's impact, but not enough to fully shield him from the searing pain of his burning flesh.

[break][break] 'Am I going to die like this? Am I going to die here?'

[break][break] 'Without even telling Penny that I -'

[break][break] Suddenly, as if some divine force had intervened, the fabric of space and time ripped apart and unraveled. In an instant, the heat, fire, and searing agony of ameena abadi's brutal attack vanished. It wasn't like a healing balm had soothed his skin; it was as if the pain had never existed at all.

[break][break] Crumpled on the floor, the Head Ranger blinked, feeling dizzy and nauseous at the whiplash. He let out groan, hand on his head, as he stared at the rain that continued to pelt against white sheetrock around him.

[break][break] Was it the rain? Had KYOGRE'S TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR saved him? Extinguished the flame of Rocket's fury?

[break][break] But no, that wasn't right. His armor was still blackened by charcoal, torn into pieces, and he could still feel the dull throb of something hurting beneath his uniform. He glimpsed the sight of something green and floating.

[break][break] And of course, just beside it, was Yuina Higashi. His friend.

[break][break] Yuina. She saved me.

[break][break] Suddenly, warmth spread through him like wildfire, the sweet comfort of friendship and loyalty surging through him like nothing else. It gave him the strength to will himself to his feet, even as the world around them was suddenly cast into DARKNESS by will of NECROZOMA and godly influence. He opened his mouth to thank her but instead was distracted as Zev Harcourt seemed to shoot across the crater like a shooting star, and Ollie's attention, once again, was stolen.

[break][break] His eyes snapped quickly to the other group on this side of the crater, only a couple feet away from them.

[break][break] Melody Miro. Yujin Ha. robin coello.

[break][break] And who was that? Was that — ?

[break][break] "Necrozma's avatar," he blurted, a little too loudly, into the League communications channel.

[break][break] "Yuina!" he called and glanced quickly at the Rocket that was steadfastly approaching from the other side. ameena abadi. Fuck. They were being backed into a corner on both sides. "Watch my back!"

[break][break] "Mocha! Help Melly!"

[break][break] The Head Ranger swiftly reached for his belt, swapping his injured Pokémon for another. He hurled the Pokéball into the air, and it cracked open in the space between his group and Melody Miro's. In a burst of brilliant light, his trusted Wyrdeer emerged with a resonant bellow of solidarity. Its horns glowed a magnificent white, and in an instant, a STARRY DOME materialized, enveloping everyone nearby in a protective barrier.

wyrdeer summons a protective dome formed of shimmering stars. this shield envelops wyrdeer and its allies, protecting them for a duration of time as well as healing them.

[break] Ollie pushed himself to his feet, shooting a defiant glare at ameena abadi. Starlight gleamed off the gold of his armor, as whatever remained of his injuries were healed by his pokemon's touch.

[break][break] "You won’t win this war," he said, his voice rough with stubborn determination. "I won’t let you."

[break][break] Even in absolute darkness, light would still find a way.

"Of course I did!" Ollie burst out, turning to look at his friend. "I always keep you in mind, Gids."

[break][break] The Head Ranger grinned at him, perhaps a little too long, before turning his attention back to the area, making sure the Pokémon were properly diverting the water flow to prevent the room from flooding.

[break][break] 'The office has it's perks.'

[break][break] Ollie turned to him, raising a brow. "Really? You're gonna have to show me. Cause I definitely never see it," he chuckled, shaking his head. "I don't know how Lars did it for so long —"

[break][break] Something crackled on the walkie-talkie that was in hand, cutting him off. One of the other Rangers mumbled something into the speaker-set, saying that they needed extra hands in the adjacent corridor. Reaching for his utility belt, Ollie called out his Lanturn. "Citrus, go help them out will ya?"

[break][break] The Lanturn let out a bright trill, before disappearing into the waves.

[break][break] Ollie then turned fully to Gideon, matching his smile with a grin, feeling something warm spread through his chest. He was happy to hear that Gideon was excited too — sharing time with Gideon was always fun, but the fact that he could share a part of his life that was so close to his heart meant more than words could say.

[break][break] His eyes sparkled, as he walked closer to the other, close enough to touch.

[break][break] His eyes widened as he looked at the councilwoman, not recognizing the fiercely hateful expression in her gaze that she fixed him with. As if the months of their reconciliation did not matter, as if she was the same bitterly cold woman who had tossed him aside no matter how many times he'd tried to earn her forgiveness.

[break][break] "Penny, I - "

[break][break] "Tired as hell of this hero act of yours."

[break][break] It was like being plunged into an ice-cold bath. He wanted to protest. He wanted to reach for her. But she was too fast, already heading towards the Space Center without any remorse for him. And staring after her retreating figure was how he was left amongst burning rubble in that burning city, because Fenelle Miller had flown the coop too.

[break][break] Once again, Ollie was all alone.

He didn't have much time to question what he should do, however, because quickly after that, communications came through with the indication that they needed to divert their attention to SOOTOPOLIS, from wherein the large BOOM had sounded. Ollie was quick to switch to the Ranger channels, which were suddenly available now that Fenelle Miller and whatever other Rocket interference had existed had been dealt with, and climbed atop his Dragonite to head to the ocean city.

[break][break] Admist all the chaos, he noticed several other Leaguers making similar ascents. Through it all, despite himself, he found himself looking for PENELOPE LIVY — knowing that she was alright, that she could more than protect herself, but still wanting - desperately - to see her.

[break][break] But he didn't.

[break][break] The wind was cold on his back as he and Pistachio sped across the raging waves towards Sootopolis City.

"Rangers! Focus on getting the civilians out of the city and into the safety of the emergency boats around the coast. The Hoenn Citizens are our first priority!"

Ollie's heart has always been for the Rangers, for the League. He'd promised as much to FERNANDO SILPH months ago, even if it was regarding another topic entirely. That was how he had always been —

[break][break] Even if his own heart also bled for PENELOPE LIVY.

[break][break] For the woman who would one day lead him to ruin.

Mountain boots clattered against the rocky shores of Sootopolis, where emerald eyes scanned the vast expanse of pristine white cragrock. It would have been a breathtaking sight, if not for the chaos that engulfed the city. Gunfire echoed through the streets, senseless bloodshed tearing through its heart, as loud and destructive as the beast that had crashed into the city's cliffside, tunneling into it's very core.

[break][break] 'What was it looking for?' Ollie wondered, a pang of longing tightening in his chest. More than anything, he wished Eva Morales were here, strong and steady to lead them in this fight. She would know what to do. She would find a way to save them all without casting the city into devastation and ruin.

[break][break] Verdant green locked onto the sight of a familiar brunette who appeared a few feet from them and immediately Ollie turned towards her, his expression lighting with relief.

[break][break] "Yuyu - "

[break][break] His eyes widened as ameena abadi's MYSTICAL FIRE came honing in for the innocent girl like a missile.

[break][break] "YUINA!" he shouted, his voice cracking, as he suddenly kicked off across the rock beneath his feet at hyperspeed. "WATCH OUT!"

[break][break] The Head Ranger's cape billowed behind him as he sprinted, but his Dragonite was far quicker. With a burst of EXTREME SPEED, the orange dragon charged at the masked grunt and her Pokémon, unleashing a powerful TWISTER to intercept the incoming attack. Currently, he and GIDEON GRAVES had been sent to one of the semi-flooded rooms, in an attempt to both secure it and see what kind of valuable information could be delved from the sinking city. Maybe they'd find something interesting enough that Gideon could take back to the Museum and even share with Yuina Higashi.

[break][break] Ollie had been checking up on all the various Ranger groups that had been dispersed to the location for the last hour, making sure that everything was going along smoothly. It was one of the first big operations that the Rangers had in a long time. It was pretty bad timing too, considering everything that was going on with the war preparations currently; in other ways, it was also convenient. It allowed him to have a grand sweep of how all the Rangers were doing in their training.

[break][break] He leaned down, picking up the Slowpoke who was staring up at him with wide eyes in his arms, giving it a little scratch between the ears. It was then that he realized that he wasn't alone. He blinked.
