not even hours after Thomas Benoit would finish his meeting with dahlia goode, he would receive a ping from the region's HEAD RANGER to meet him in the borders. ollie had secured the location of a few league officials — namely, and most importantly to Ollie, Caleb Harcourt — but there was still several from his roster that had been missing.

[break][break] ollie hadn't wanted to come to this conclusion. it was morbid. but he was getting desperate. he could think of nothing else.

[break][break] he'd been checking his comms perodically to see if any of the rangers that he'd sent out to scout for his sister or PENELOPE LIVY would turn up, but nothing yet. it was making him exceedingly anxious, like a scratch he couldn't quite itch. and he couldn't just sit still, thinking that the world was about to end.

[break][break] he swallowed thickly.

[break][break] at the precipice at one of the rifts that had quickly come to know as THE BORDER, the head ranger waited for the former elite four to show.

After his meeting with Thomas Benoit, Ollie was on edge. He hadn't been able to make contact with any of the people that he said that he would — all his texts to Eva Morales, PENELOPE LIVY, paxton concordas had gone unanswered.

[break][break] It was only willow atkins who responded to him, with a messy string of text that could only be attributed to Roman Maher stealing her phone.

[break][break] He was a nervous wreck. But Ollie, expert at masquerading his emotions, somehow found it in him to hold it together. He had to.

[break][break] But not even Caleb Harcourt had answered his texts yet. Or GIDEON GRAVES.

[break][break] He swallowed.

[break][break] When the door swung open, relief flashed bright in his eyes. Even though he knew Gunner Graves was around - because he'd answered his texts - it was still a relief to see the other man in person and in one piece. He sighed.

[break][break] "You're trying to butter me up with my favorite food," he said, cheeks puffing out slightly, before he smiled and immediately popped some fries into his mouth. He shook his head, with slight dejection. "Not really."

[break][break] "Thomas and I went to the border. We saw kyle lopez — at least we know they're not dead."

[break][break] Which seemed - given the way that both he and Gunner Graves had been in Kanto - the farthest thing from a comfort that Ollie could think of at the moment.

He told himself that it didn't matter if Caleb was joking, or flirting, or whatever it was. Ollie knew that he was important to Caleb, and it wasn't like Ollie himself didn't engage in bouts of harmless flirting every now and then, especially when it made his work easier.

[break][break] He told himself that it had nothing to do with any of that — that he wasn't mad or upset or emotional. He had been planning to talk to Caleb anyways, after all, especially since annalise henderson and Greyson Connors both had expressed their concerns to him. The latter, of course, more than the former considering how his childhood friend had just showed up at the Elite Four's house.

[break][break] The door shut behind Caleb with a silent click, but it may have been as loud as thunder, for the tension that suddenly filled the room.
