when all else failed, the offer of comfort can entice anyone into a foreign situation. a visit to the doctor's office was no different. [break][break]

relief falls on her shoulders, and the tension from earlier vanishes just that easily. marisol stands straight while turning her back to the two, and when she opens the door she tilts her head into the room, beckoning them in. this was one of the better rooms, with sunlight and a larger window. how considerate of the other nurses to set this up. [break][break]

"the doctor won't be here for a little while, so i'd like to ask a few questions." a warm gaze shifts to the young girl, whose hand is still ensnared by the luxray's grasp. [break][break]

"is that okay, miss?"

blessed be that she's accustomed to working with pokemon. [break][break]

despite the luxray's large build, the nurse does nothing to pull back or flinch. rather, she welcomes the paw with a warm smile and a shake of her head. her other hand raises, waving off the apology. rather, with another glance at the duo, there's a pause as she mulls over her options.[break][break]

marisol rests the palm of her other hand atop of the paw, head tilting whilst directing her attention to the seemingly acting guardian. [break][break]

"would it help to have you by her side throughout the check up?"

marisol is a support. [break][break]

... oh, who is she kidding? [break][break]

no matter how many times she'll insist, she finds herself right in the middle once again, thrust into the center of action when she genuinely doesn't expect herself to do any more than that. the doctor finds herself slightly anxious, feeling the ground quake at in anticipation of the coming onset of monsters from within the caverns. there should be more people to help with the subjugation - sadly, it looks like it's only her and one other person at this site; one other person she's actually quite familiar with. there's a gym leader here, now. yes, she feels much safer now that she knows someone far more seasoned than she is, is on the field. [break][break]

so here she is, krookodile at her side as she awaits the impending stampede. her eyes narrow to today's partner, with all attempts to make small talk before the chaos.[break][break]

"it's good to see you, devlin." she wears a smile, though it grows wry in light of the trembling ground. "though i wish it could have been under different circumstances.."

she was tasked with finding a beast. [break][break]

as usual, she was tasked with pairing up with someone to act as support - although this time it was part of the taste of subduing or capturing a paradox beast. it was fascinating, the unknown beast and relic of the past - so much so that she couldn't help but to be slightly excited. [break][break]

at least, it was an excuse to get her out of her lab. [break][break]

a mask weighs heavy against her nose, and so she lifts it slightly to get in a deep breath of air from the chasm. there's still so much beneath, with the region sitting right above; it's a wonder what could have created something like this - maybe she's wondering because she's been so out of the loop. [break][break]

her partner should be there soon, but that doesn't stop her from wandering around the meeting point to search for tracks or droppings. it's only when she hears footsteps does she perk up and start to glance over her shoulder. "hello, are you my partner?" she asks with a smile, calm and pleasant, all things considered.

cold words are bitten back. at least, marisol has enough restraint to keep herself from quipping at someone who's just trying to do their job. still, someone asking too many questions isn't favourable; who knows what kind of information they're trying to pry for? those who ask so many questions are safer with their mouths shut. they'll get tipped more that way. [break][break]

"no offense taken." she speaks with the tiniest pang of distain, though the smile and soft grunt that follows as she gently lifts the cover of another box up work to mask it. the contents are properly packed and padded. everything is neatly organized, beakers and vials and the like showing no signs of damage in their transport. good. [break][break]

there's initially no interest when she moves to her pocket, only pausing at the opportunity to lessen her losses. "oh?" a brow quirks. a frostbite, of all things? but when she looks at him, he appears to be perfectly fine. if it were frostbite, she'd expect to see the blue. if it were frostbite, she'd see blistering. if it were frostbite, he wouldn't be working. the cover on the box closes, and she sends out a DUSKNOIR to grab the heavier materials for her. "quite adept," she hums, dual-colored eyes squinting in skepticism. "but i must ask, what kind of frostbite? you look fine."

she understands. certainly, she understands. [break][break]

the nurse glances tot he luxray, who stands between her and the patient. at least the feline(?) has some sense of what's going on, and knows that his trainer is suffering from that nasty stomach ache. who knows what bacteria the poor girl has gotten. who knows what would happen if it goes worse? [break][break]

"eris." she leans her hands against her knees, hoping to get into eye contact. children are easier to handle; teenagers were a bit more difficult. she's shy, or scared - scared of doctors, which is all so too unfortunate. [break][break]

her practiced smile, worn out as it was, softens as she tilts her head "is there anything i can do that will help you feel more at ease?"

how dare they?[break][break]

the SYLVEON wants to ask. surely, she feels so popular when there are two dragon pokemon who are out for her head. though she had healed the majority of the damage sustained, it's chipped away slightly by the U-TURN. as the dragon flies away. on the other hand, there's a POISON TAIL coming at her from the other side - although the poison one seems to neglect the SHEDINJA who quickly, with SHADOW SNEAK, sinks from the sylveon's shadow to take the poisonous tail.[break][break]

though pokemon are lashed by the impact, the deadly poison isn't able to come into direct contact with the fairy. both pokemon are thrown back by the blow, however the sylveon stands - parasitic little fairy she was. rather than doing as she did earlier, however, she gazes to the shedinja, copying the stat increases with PSYCH UP. [break][break]

though her pokemon are fighting for their lives, marisol is left.. slightly uneasy at the leader's prodding. she knows, how ever reluctant she may be to admit it. "unfortunately, it's necessary." she doesn't like her response (the reality stings her throat when the words leave her lips). "sometimes the only way to stop the killing is by killing the source."[break][break]

it hits a little too close to home.

"help! the townspeople have gone crazy!" [break][break]

she wouldn't have believed it unless she saw it for herself. lo and behold, there's the equivalent of a zombie apocalypse happening right before her eyes. if not for the hostility and violent behavior the infected displayed, she'd think the situation was pretty funny - for all its morbidity. [break][break]

the nurse was called with others to be field medics, although all she needed to do was to stand by with a dewgong and her safeguard. it prevented the other townsfolk from getting infected, protected herself, and kept the poison away. the problem was, there were too many townsfolk and just one of her. she has to wonder: what caused such a disaster to befall the tiny littleroot town, of all places? little luxury does she have to ponder it. though her job was to make sure the lucid weren't infected, that doesn't stop her curiosity from getting the better of herself when she ventures deeper down the rabbit hole. there's a poison chain linking the infected - one that breaks upon meeting her pokemon. of all things, though, why dancing? [break][break]

her curiosity is cut short at the scream of another person. they're helpless in the face of such intimidating dancing (dancing that becomes quite dangerous, she's learned today). with the wave of her hand, the nurse's dewgong launches an ice beam to freeze the infected and their possessed pokemon. "hey!" she calls out, quick to erect another safeguard around them. "you're okay, now." or as okay as they will be. [break][break]

she beckons with a small smile, and brings them back to one of the safety zones. [break][break]

but she'll glance back to the eerie glow, a smile painted broader on her lips.

graduating was more tiring. [break][break]

she thought that she'd have more time, now that she doesn't need to study. unfortunately, she was wrong, because now work can demand her work the nightshift or the graveyard hours. clearly, it's taken its toll - marisol thought that she would finally be free of the slight bags under her eyes. she wasn't. [break][break]

but research doesn't rest.[break][break]

when the delivery comes, she's glancing at the seemingly harmless cotton candy boxes. the substances were harmful in the right hands (as is anything, but mix these together and you can get interesting results asides from death). she thought that it would be business as usual; take the stuff, pay off the smuggler, and carry on into the night with her experiments. it was, until the smuggler got a bit curious and chirps a question. she's lucky she's practiced a smile for so long. she's lucky she's worked in hospitality for so long, otherwise she wouldn't be able to wear one. save for the tired air, she's trying to be pleasant, and it comes naturally. [break][break]

"medicine." she hums, pulling a scalpel from her pocket and removing the cap. while crouched, she begins to glide the blade across the tape. "or rather.. for treatments and medical service offered to the underground. for example, things you can't go to a regular doctor for." though most rockets would go to their medical ward, she doubted that many had surgical knowledge. [break][break]

when the box opens, she begins to properly count all within one of them. "why do you ask?"

curiosity killed the litten-- er.. was that how the saying went? [break][break]

a coworker comes into the office, hands clasped together in front of her. "help, there's a kid who's being difficult" she pleads. marisol has to wonder when she became the nurse people went to for the troubled, and when the undesirable work was being put on her. on the flip side, it meant that she could help someone - and she could ask for more compensation later on. at the end of the day, someone owed her.[break][break]

so when she's asked about a child whose demands were "get me out of here" adjacent, she has to approach them now. it's ironic, though, because of how intimidating or tired she may come off. the days of darkened bags under her eyes aren't as frequent as when she was a student, but they can still give anyone a bit of a scare. she approaches the hallway, because apparently they still couldn't get her in the room - and they couldn't exactly force her.[break][break]

at least she has a practiced smile. [break][break]

which she uses on this.. sassy, feral child. oh boy. [break][break]

marisol has to crouch, slightly, whilst wearing a small smile on her lips. marisol has met her fair share of glares and hisses - she's prepared to be scratched. [break][break]

"miss," she starts, with the same, somewhat serene smile and calmer tone "we can't help you if you keep scaring the other nurses off.."
