Nomi ran delicate fingers over the smooth crystal, marveling at the sight before her. She had never seen so many Tera crystals in one place before, blanketing the walls and ground like an ethereal, softly glowing moss. Her skin prickled as an undercurrent of potent possibility - like the anticipatory feeling before a storm - washed through her. She shivered, glancing at Mîr, who's illumina glow seemed to compliment the crystals, causing the ones nearest to pulse brightly as if in greeting.[break][break]
There was some inherent connection between Tera energy, the dream mist, and the Unown...Nomi was sure of it.[break][break]
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" She commented to the man next to her, an unbidden smile spreading across her lips. She knew he shared her love of discovery. Here, before them, was a seemingly endless supply of research opportunities. What would they be able to learn from such a vast network of Tera crystals?[break][break]
"Let's see if we can go a little deeper," she suggested, navigating her way through the maze of sharp angles and reflective surfaces. Beneath her feet, the ground began to slope subtly downwards.[break][break]

Kallistatus had grown accustomed to Parker's many nicknames for it, so it did not need Nomi to repeat the command. It shimmered once, subtle ripples of energy forming in the air like heat signatures. With a sudden flash of light, the two women were back inside of Parker's apartment - conveniently located directly next to the bed.[break][break]
"Krispy Kreme", ancient and alien though it was, could take a hint.[break][break]
Nomi barely noticed the transfer, so intent was she on continuing to kiss Parker with the taste of I love you on their lips. She tugged at Parker's clothing with an insistent fervor, intent on toppling them both onto the mattress. Loud, unabashed moans of needy wanting chorused Nomi's breathing, and they absolutely definitely should not have stayed in the gym lest they cause a scene.[break][break]
At some point, mouth pressed breathily against Parker's ear, Nomi murmured a new desire, one that had been rumbling beneath the surface of her consciousness like the start of an earthquake; now, the fault lines had shifted and the full-on shaking had begun.[break][break]
"We should move in together. We should get a place that's ours."

Out of the portal stepped a petite woman with pastel pink hair tied up in a tail. Her delicate features were visible as she surveyed the landscape, crimson eyes scrutinizing the cliffside in search of potential dangers. Snow crunched beneath her boots as she walked into the shadow of a nearby mausoleum, a tribute to some ancient family long-forgotten. Here, she waited, a shiny blue Unown-K at her side. Her hand rested by her waist, fingertips dancing idly across a Tera orb.[break][break]
The memory of PENELOPE LIVY's unbridled wrath was seared into her like a brand that still burned, the wound not yet healed over; she still trusted illeana reyes, but she was wary now, on guard, more cautious. Tense, she looked to the horizon, awaiting a flash of pink.[break][break]
"The Alchemist," she murmured, trying out her supposed ally's new title. Nomi was no chemist, but she knew a thing or two about brewing.[break][break]

She climbed. And climbed. And climbed.[break][break]
And still, she did not reach the top of the staircase. Exhaustion mixed with frustration, her muscles screaming, she eventually faltered, falling to her knees. Breathing labored and cheeks flushed, Nomi gazed upwards with a frantic expression, straining to see some sign of Arceus ahead.[break][break]
A feeling of dread passed through her as the stairs began to fade into nothingness.[break][break]
"No, no, no!"[break][break]
She had been so CLOSE. The simulation couldn't fail now! Nomi clawed forwards, trying to hold on, but there was nothing to grasp. Her gaze snapped to Kallistatus, but the Unown merely watched her, and she knew in her heart that it did not have the power to salvage the shifting scenario on its own, and she didn't have time to unleash all of her Unown...[break][break]
Words seemed to manifest, then - from within her? An impression moreso than clear language. It reminded her of how the Unown communicated with her.[break][break]

"I AM THE CENTRAL CIRCLE."

And then everything went white, a brilliant, blinding light shattering the environment to pixelated dust.[break][break][break][break]
A short time later, Nomi regarded Zev Harcourt, the two having emerged from the RKS Machine and finding themselves back in the Rocket lab. Her entire body was buzzing with anticipation - with the resolve to immediately re-enter and attempt to find the hevaenly staircase again.[break][break]
"It was not a waste," she told him, though he had made no comment suggesting otherwise. "Wherever the central circle is, I will find it."[break][break]
She paused, glancing at the machine.[break][break]
"Something tells me Holo might be waiting for me there."

It was a familiar scene: a war-torn Galar, plagued by the great Skeleton in the sky. Toxic red light washed over the debris that was all that remained of crushed buildings; Nomi thought she saw bones amidst the gravel and dirt, which did not surprise her. She remembered well the destruction that had rained down upon the Galar she'd spent time (twenty years) defending.[break][break]
"There is some lesson to be learned," she mused, and though her voice was calm, her stomach tightened with emotion. Too many memories were threatening to overwhelm her, force her to remember what had felt like joy mixed with loss. Faces she had not seen since. A love that haunted her every breath.[break][break]
"The dream mist...the RKS Machine...it consistently conjures visions of Galar. A specific Galar, where Eternatus hunts, and where the Dynamax phenomenon wreaks havoc on the land. Is it a warning? Of what's to come, for us - for Hoenn?"[break][break]
She did not expect an answer, but even if Aurelie had one, neither woman had a chance to continue the conversation - a massive chunk of stone was flying straight for them. Nomi was unceremoniously yanked down behind the massive metallic shield, and she covered her head instinctively as she flattened her body against the cold ground. Kallistatus teleported out of the way as Aurelie attempted to shift the shield into a more advantageous position for keeping them out of harm's way.[break][break]
To Nomi's shock and awe, the shield - which had to weigh far more than any one woman could carry - groaned to life, responding to Aurelie's desire to protect. A light that filled Nomi's heart with the thrill of victory flooded the space around them, and something began to emerge. Something familiar. Something heroic.[break][break]

Nomi barely registered Zev speaking. In fact, everything else melted away as her eyes locked onto the grand staircase, each step a thing of translucent beauty, a massive endless pillar glowing with the same light of creation she had seen in the vision gifted to her on the day the Unown had made her their Avatar.[break][break]
"The Ascended Hall of Origin," she breathed, awed beyond belief.[break][break]
Then she broke out into a run.[break][break]
Nomi was not an athlete, her thighs burning as she raced up the stairs, but adrenaline and frantically beating heart fueled her hasty ascent. The simulation could crumble at any moment: this was her chance to finally find Arceus.[break][break]
Music filled the void around them as her feet touched each step. She passed by Zev in a blur of skirts and pink hair. Kallistatus seemed to pulse as the notes played, as if attuning to their rhythm.[break][break]

Nomi walked up to Lulu, then glanced down at the dark stone. It was nearly opaque, save for a crackling of energy within - some distant thunder, barely contained, eager to break free.[break][break]
"Resting, perhaps. Or maybe it's some kind of...egg? A rebirth of sorts?"[break][break]
So many unanswered questions about the nature of legendary Pokemon. How much more of their world would need to be threatened - if not sacrificed - for their understanding to deepen?[break][break]
A sudden wave of exhaustion caused Nomi to sigh softly, and she instinctively rested a hand on Lulu's forearm.[break][break]
"Thank you for accompanying me. I hope you found the journey enlightening."[break][break]
Nomi knew that Lulu would certainly want to traverse the many scenarios of the RKS Machine over and over, just as she had, and Nomi would help her do so - if she requested it.[break][break]
Around the two women, the landscape began to shudder and morph - returning to the initial loading screen. The dark stone dissipated into nothingness, just another forgotten memory in a sea of pixels.
