“Sure, Cass. We can talk. You mind walkin’ and talkin’? It helps me think.” Action helps him think. Some part of him contemplates inviting her into the gym, where he has a small office. It reminds him of when he was young and he got scolded by the principal. He’d rather not give Cass that impression, so a stroll along the beach it was.[break][break]
“What’s on your mind?” Rather than filling her head with the many opinions he has about their imprisonment, he opens the floor to Cass. It seems to him that she has much to say, and he hopes to give her the chance to voice as much as she wishes.

Like a wise creature led to water, the rampaging Gyarados sees the writing on the wall. It has met its match, and survival instincts win out over pride. Navy sees intelligent malice in the creature’s eyes as it turns and swims away, shooting like a comet through the tunnels that lead to freedom.[break][break]
“You probably don’t wanna hang out at the beach for a while.” Navy jokes with a rueful smile. “Somethin’ tells me that guy’s gonna remember our faces for a while. Gyarados can get real vindictive. Most people don’t live long enough to see if when they get on one’s bad side.”[break][break]
Yet, for now, they’re done. Roze performed marvelously, and this sinking pile of flotsam survives another day. All’s well that ends well he thinks.[break][break]
“You’ve got some real talent as a trainer, I think. Come by the gym sometime, train with Baki n’ me. We’ll get your team in shape.”

“Yeah. Probably the smart move. Roland. You heard her.” So Roland did, and so he nods. The thunderbolts seem to veer off course more and more, their platform tilting just enough for the Gyarados to notice there’s an escape path – one that will take him to open water.[break]
“Give him one last good push and I feel like he’ll flee right out.” Though the Gyarados is still flailing, still angry, still focused, Navy whispers the words. The last thing you want to do when baiting a dragon, even a pseudo-dragon, is to hint that they’re playing into your hands. “Have one of your Pokemon harass it a little more and I think it’ll get the idea.”

They are not alone. A steel elevator shaft gives way to open air. Below them is a battlefield worthy of the word. Granite stretches for near a mile all around them. The supermassive structure was built to house legends like Groudon. Cin and Oberon will find ample room to dance their dance.[break][break]
“Yeah, and I like goin’ with my gut. Silph’s got the best mind in the League, so it ain’t like I can compete with that anyway.” What Navy has, what he prides himself upon, what guides him, is his heart. It is worn upon his sleeve, it bleeds fiercely, and it guides him through the chaos of these wartorn times.[break][break]
“Careful cause it can burn.” A great beast flies near their arena. It, too, is a creature driven by its heart. Grandpa is an old thing, a Drampa who has always watched over the youth of Dewford. It coos upon seeing the battlefield and how the dragon battles the would-be Monkey King.[break][break]
Acrobatics meets a good, old-fashioned slash. There is nothing fancy about the way Oberon’s claw rises. It doesn’t need to be. He screams in pain and doles pain upon his foe in turn. It is an even fight, right up until the elder unleashes a dragon pulse.[break][break]
In this, the old one hopes to impart a valuable lesson: few fights in life will be fair, especially for one seeking to rise to the mountaintop.

Her cunning smirk is met by eyes that seem more golden than gunmetal in the light of the abyss. His hands are held like claws rather than human fists. Navy and Vortigern’s stances mirror one another, two halves of vicious alchemy. One moves, the other follows. They weave their blows together, two creatures in total synchronization with one another. The two-souled, two-bodied, two-headed dragon roars. Navy finds speech hard when he dives into the darkness of a dragon’s soul.[break][break]
His language is that of shattered glass and viscous fluid scattered across Eternatus’s wet flesh. His love is shown through force, as he grabs a Nihilego by the hand and slams it down. Vortigern is upon the screaming angel in a moment. It begs for mercy in an alien language, and is given none.[break][break]
More come for them. They strike out at Vortigern, the one they fear. Fear drives them to the madness of cornered animals. These Nihilego do not look like distant invaders. They do not look like aliens invading their world. They look like frightened beasts attacking that which frightens them the most.[break][break]
Mist rolls in. It’s thick. Navy chokes upon the smell, like old chalky bubblegum. The smell is familiar, like the smell that signaled his return to Galar. Breathing in, his face is a mad grimace, looking more wolf than man as the mist descends upon them and covers them all.[break][break]
Oh how the Nihilego do dance in the mist. Oh how they dance. They say they will never die. Those that have fallen, those that still live, they join together, they join together in mockery of Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki, one whom they call the heart mother. Nihilego fuse together, one macabre wall of clear viscous black flesh. It looms tall above them both. A wave of sludge descends upon them once again, and the dragons rise to meet it with iron head and close combat fueled by rage.

Roland lets the staff slip free from his hand. It is gone like so much feymist before it even hits the ground beneath his feet. In its place comes a singing orange blade, alive with the humming of a newborn galaxy. Roland eyes the monster above him, another dragon to be cast down. The iron knight’s blade calls out to the heaven. The fury of a thousand thunderbolts is his answer.[break][break]
They fall upon the Gyarados like the roar of an angry god. One, two, a deluge of thunder, the storm of the century, all conjured by his blade. Roland never binks, never looks away. He simply strikes, not wanting to disappoint his liege lord or the beautiful princess who accompanies the man. Her hair reminds the knight of a shiny Gardevoir, of a maiden his ghost misses dearly.[break][break]
“Somethin’s sure got into Roland today.” Laughs the oblivious warrior, who himself conjures a gun from the aether. The Pale Rider raises his gun, takes aim, fires an anchor shot across its mouth, ensuring that the hyper beam has nowhere else to go.[break][break]
“Keep up the pressure! He’ll be down fer the count soon!”

The mention of Eris’s wooper house makes Navy smile the warm smile of a career older brother. Wiser men than he say art is good for the soul, and that it mends wounds. Eris’s soul has many wounds to heal, and so he is glad she could use his gym to help with that. It is, after all, what he does all this for.[break][break]
Talk of the prison shifts the smile towards sympathy. Eyes widen, recognition dawns. His eyes scan her again. Though in that maelstrom of action, idiocy, and plain rage he did not see her hold a red chain, he remembered someone with hair like hers, hidden by a mask.[break][break]
“I’m sorry you had to go through that, Cass.” His voice is gentle, steeped in concern. “Nobody should’ve. Not Eris, not you.” Yet they live in strange times, where even children are called to the court of gods, monsters, and kings. “I'm Navy, by the way. Sheriff Navidson on paper but I don't much like titles. You holdin' up alright? If there's anything I can do, let me know.” To serve the League is to defend its people, especially its young. Though some might say it is no fault of theirs, the final assessment remains the same: by allowing the Loyal Three to capture this young lady, the League failed her. If he can make that right, he will.

“Roland, help us out.” They approach the battlefield, but obstacles still block their way. Out comes Roland, a one-armed Iron Valiant. His eyes survey the fires that threaten his liege lord and the lady accompanying them. Navy holds out his hand and imagines a rod from an old legend, one that spilled water when its wielder struck a stone in frustration.[break][break]
It appears from thin air, pressed into Roland’s hand. The knight, now cast in the role of wizard, commands the surf with his rod. It rises, dousing the fire and procuring safe passage for the two.[break][break]
The water ripples. Force rocks their float. From below, the raging brute rises, roaring in anger, looking upon the intruders with furious rebuke. Energy gathers in his maw, but Navy only smiles. Gyarados has not yet noticed the unseen Pokemon waiting to strike him down.
