They are all fortunate that Howard chose to attack in Spring, while there’s still time for liber sen and balor sen to get things cleaned up before the heat. Even still, it is cool. There is a breeze in the house where there shouldn’t be one.[break][break]
The draft seems to swell near a light switch. She is not alone. A hand flicks up a light. Light brings with it a revelation. Hattori, without a Lord to defend, has taken it upon himself to defend Tsubaki, though he does not often make himself known. He’s cast there in the light, clinging to the front of this stranger’s shirt, a kunai in his hand right against the throat.[break][break]
Hattori’s eye shoots wide. He sees who this stranger is, and he lets the kunai fall. In place of steel aggression, the frog clings to his beloved human like a child holding to an adult. Here, with no outsiders to intrude upon them, Hattori is free with his tears. Navy pats the Pokemon on the head and smiles at Tsubaki.[break][break]
“You really should let people in, you know? Otherwise you’re gonna end up like I did when we got tossed in the pen.”

Luck is the death of strategy. Men in little rooms, running numbers endlessly, love to discuss probability, how things must happen because probability tells them that it will be so. When placed upon the battlefield, intricacies of the heart and incalculable quirks of the body throw strategy to the wayside. By all rights, Iron Leaves should be able to parry the night slash. Its machine limbs move with greased fluidity no creature of meat and blood could hope to match. When it raises its shield, attempting a guard, it should be certain…[break][break]
But, against all odds, the slash goes through. Absol’s blade-horn finds purchase. Darkest night meets psychic energy. Iron Leaves, a creature nowhere near as sturdy as it looks, buckles beneath the slash. It recoils. Strange liquid drips from a gash across its chest. It is an injury that will require more than a visit to a Pokemon Center to fix, but it will be repaired in due time.[break][break]
Not now. Now, the machine shows its flaw, its strength. It is vain, and the injury has left it desirous of an even score. Psychic energy gives way to fighting spirit. Its flesh and blood brother is a sword of justice, one who walks with unwavering conviction upon a righteous path. This ghost in the machine does not hold the same fighting spirit, but it holds an approximation of that same power.[break][break]
So it is back into the breach once more, back with a sacred sword to rend low the Absol. It hums at least, an angry sound like unoiled gears crying against one another in sound and fury and fervor.

Iron Leaves does not loose a sound, not even when Absol howls or dances the ancient swords dance. Its limbs coil and it is off. Virizion, the true Virizion, demands swift action. This ghost in a machine feels much the same. It skirts towards Absol, swift as a leaf billowing in a hurricane, and its psyblade glows with pink light.[break][break]
It looks down upon the Absol and its own eyes begin to glow with light. It brings down its head upon the Pokemon, seeking first blood and the relentless advantage of speed. The ground on either side of Absol splits from the blow’s power, parting the mists around them if for but a moment.[break][break]
“Huh. He’s really comin’ out of the gate swinging.” Navy, who has never seen Iron Leaves battle much beyond a few sparring matches with Shuwen and his dragons, watches the battle with apt interest. Some part of him reconsiders letting Airi train the Iron Leaves, but he knows that it would never truly get to live out its heart’s desire to travel, were it to stay with him. There’s only so many Pokemon he can carry onto the battlefield, and they’ve never managed to hit it off quite like he has with Hattori or some of his other Pokemon.[break][break]
“Guess he goes in for decisive action, the same way Virizion does.”

thread summary: During a battle between Navy and howard slayte in Eternatus's core, Zacian intervenes. The Hero of Many Battles's appearance, along with Navy and Howard's emotional states, cause the tera crystals in the chamber to go haywire. Navy and Howard awaken in another world and realize they are in the Galarian dream shared by many outside the Ancient Tomb. They journey out of the slumbering weald, encounter an armored swordswoman named Zaria, and learn that the land has once more fallen under Eternatus's spell in the absence of heroes. Recognizing there is only one way home, Navy and Howard gather their companions and set out on a grand quest through Galar.[break]

why is it important?: I try and make every thread I do for Navy matter in the grand scope of his story or give some revelation about his character. Ergo, the first full raid I completed, Goodbye Galar, had an incredible impact on Navy as a character. I think his heart is a fatal flaw as much as it is his greatest strength, and he has long been forced to bear the weight of memory in a world that has moved on. Getting to explore Galar again and give him closure on the Galarian chapter of his life was a lot of good fun.[break]
I also used facsimiles of other characters on the forum (PENELOPE LIVY, jayden cross, and Elisabeth Fiorelli) to explore different aspects of Navy's psyche. Within the dream, they are not so much the people they are in the real world as they are aspects of Navy's repressed envy, grudges, and hatred. Zacian bonding with Navy marks him as a hero and a warrior, but I hold the philosophy that a hero is made and very rarely consider themselves a hero. I used this thread to show that he is a flawed man who, through an unnaturally long life in a dream world, has had time to understand his own flaws, accept them, and strive to be better. Though he fails and his heart makes him blunder, the attempt is always there.[break]
His relationship with Zaria and Howard made the thread for me though. They're all mirrors and foils for one another. Zaria and Navy are remarkably similar people who both made the choice to take up the sword. They were both hotheads tempered by time. Both of them lose a bit of who they are in the way people around them perceive their actions as their legends grow. Howard and Navy are two people not quite happy with their sides, but both have pledged to see the fight through until the credits are over and the lights come on.[break]

Reading those files was like entering a whole new world, a world where everything he thought he knew was as useless as yesterday’s lottery numbers.[break][break]

What they see as a world of vibrant color, Iron Leaves sees as information processed and fed into its logic calculators in monochrome red. Its movements are more graceful than any machine has a right to be. Though many would say it is not the equal of its flesh and blood sibling Virizion, the gap is small. Its eyes settle on Airi. They dig into her, judge her, question her silently.[break][break]
“Yeah.” Navy agrees. “Real beaut. Killed some good people when it was born, too.” Its head snaps to Navy, though his words rouse no animosity. Its logic machine simply accepts the words as fact. Instead, it pivots back to Airi. Iron Leaves looks down at her pokeballs.[break][break]
“Oh man. I think he really does have some of Virizion in him. Think he wants to test you. Am I right on the money?” A small up-down tilt of the psychic machine’s head serves well enough for a nod. Its eyes look past Airi, off to the coast. Navy wonders if it doesn’t long to see whatever’s out there by the side of a worthy trainer.[break][break]
“Welp, looks like he’s willing to humor you. Be proud. Only two people he’s ever taken a real shine to before’s Baki n me.” Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki, of course, being the island’s gym leader, and the one who originally caught this Iron Leaves. A blade of psychic energy appears over the vibrant pink energy swirling in the center of its head. It serves for an en garde.
