“You keep saying that, but I always think Alex,” she responded, still remembering how they met in mid-air back then. That girl had seemed familiar then, too. But apparently she wasn’t who Lash thought she was.

But eh, not her problem. She shrugged. This was a fight, after all. “Anyway, a good match indeed. And for that, I say we start with some Stealth Rocks!” Raising her hand, she ordered her Pokemon to do just that, shooting out rocks all over the field from its body in the hopes that the Samurott would trigger them somehow and take damage that way.

Well, that was the plan at least.

Now, who would they get to fight next? Lycanroc at least was ready, the shiny one briefly running up and down its side of the field to prepare. Lash, in the meantime, tapped her umbrella on the ground, a bit restless as she waited.



The other party was not late, of course. Lash had just finished early on the last one and was still in a ready-set mode that she was trying to keep up. Not that she was planning on trying to win this tournament overall. As hilarious as it would be for a school-girl looking one to win against all the strong people coming here.



But that would be too much attention. She did not want that. But she did want to surprise people by showing them some of the tricks up her sleeve, if they underestimated her. Speaking of, someone was coming. “Good evening, Miss. This is Lyca, I am Lash, and we are not here to lose, despite the alliteration.”

Truth be told, it would be odd for someone to recognize Lash anyway, so she was used to others needing introductions. Not that she knew that one, anyway. The girl looked like some kind of explorer type, which was pretty common across trainers. Hence, Lash was not going to even remotely assume that she was dealing with a professor.

The raven-red haired one, in the meantime, mostly rocked that school-girl look that always did her good in events like these. Being underestimated was good. And this Eva at the very least did not do so by infantilizing her, which was always appreciated. “Good day, Miss Eva. I am Lash and this is Lyca. And don’t worry, I am not going to underestimate anything with more than two arms. That is a personal rule of mine.” A bold-faced lie for the sake of a joke, of course. Her Lycanroc in the meantime made its way to the pitch.

“And I am aware that it’s a lame name, but I mean, it does fit, doesn’t it?” The canine one sneered, its expression making it difficult to determine whether or not it agreed to that – and if so, which part with.

Raincoats were for losers. Lash had an umbrella. And she had a Lycanroc at her side, which intently focused on the Froakie as it leisurely trotted onto the pitch. “Good day mister Maher,” she started, her voice and appearance still decidedly too young for what she had hoped to have during this tournament. But sadly, events like these did not wait for space-time distortions to successfully be completed.

Nor natural ageing, for that matter.
Still though, she gave the man a smile. “We are ready as well. You better not underestimate us though, because Lyca and I are stronger than we look like.” Well, maybe she was playing up the looks a bit there.

But she was here to have fun, too, not just to try for that rare Pokemon.


CIAN MAHER

“You should be. These streets can be quite dangerous,” she replied, casually, before simply storing the collar into her beg, carelessly discarding the packaging. It was nondescript and would not make a difference as to the level of disarray this alley was in, anyway.

Though when the other reached right into her personal space, she reacted in the only way that made sense to her. As in, she reached out herself and simply shook the hand that was offered to her. “You did well delivering this at least. And I trust that you will keep this quiet, especially since you don’t even know what is going on anyway,” Lash further noted, sounding awfully friendly for the moment.
All the while, she rummaged in her bag for the stack of bills she had prepared. It was pre-counted, of course. Anything else would have just been rude.

Hence, she would offer it to the girl, obviously delivering the exact amount demanded. “Don’t worry. I am not trying to cheat you out of anything. We are probably in similar circumstances after all, would be kind of pointless to be rude in such a situation. After all, if either of us had other choices for this, neither would be here.”

Now, this was funny. So, she laughed. The simple, childish laugh that had been expected of one such as herself, of course. It could not be helped. Not like it would be easy to produce anything else. Plus, looking like this, she usually did not have to hold back anyway. Sure, she held herself to a higher standard, but it was tiresome at times. To always be considered one way, come across creepy when acting another and having to try extra hard to be taken seriously.

Well, at least this girl was kind of taking her seriously. So there definitely was that, at least. “You sure are overcorrecting hard on this. But that’s fair, I guess,” she replied, simply taking the package and carefully working the packaging. The veiled threat in the air did not impact her too much, really. Her eyes naturally glanced at where the other put the hand not busy with handing things over, but she couldn’t see anything there. Figured the girl was still ready to pull something, if something was pulled on her, though.

“You can relax a little, though. Not sure what others did to you, but I am probably the most harmless kind that asks questions. Your ad only promises that you won’t ask any, after all.” That being said, she swiftly revealed what was inside. A tool of business for any poacher, a collar that could be used to control a Pokemon to an extent without actually catching and training it. That was not her job, after all. For that, she had this. Well, she’d had another, but that one had not survived her last distortion excursion. Turns out those were sometimes bad for anything remotely electronic. “Don’t worry, it’s not to be used on you,” she added with a chuckle. “Seems to be in order, though.”

“What an odd thing to say. That is exactly what they do whenever they are not actively stealing, now is it? Hawking is definitely part of the job, after all,” she replied with a light shrug. Despite her apparent age, she very much spoke from experience in this particular regard. Poaching Pokemon was one part of the job, often the most exciting. But one always had to work hard and find buyers, too. It was one of the reasons why she had cultivated a level of relations with Rocket. Those guys were always in the market, after all. Plus, they often outsourced custom jobs.

Well, they had to her at least. Back when she had a frame that made others think she could do it, at least. However, once the other so readily wanted to hand the package to her, she could not help but tilt her head, quizzically. “Are you really just going to offer it to me like that? No trying to make sure that I am actually your client? Not even trying to make me guess what you might have to trade, so that I have to offer up a modicum of knowledge about it? I have to say, that seems a bit sloppy to me, Miss June.” Not that she was going to reject the package offered and went to get the cash from her bag. But she was still a bit disappointed in this lady.

The thud of the brick impacting the rough stone of the alley was answered - by a caw. All but immediately, a Murkrow dislodged itself from a nearby fire-escape it had sat itself upon and flapped towards where the brick had hit, evidently interested but paying the courier no heed for the time being. That was its role, after all. Investigate and alert. Hence, it did just that. The little crow was already well-trained in that regard, given that its owner had much more use for it this way, rather than as a fighter.

Though then again, one might have expected her to carry at least one ball with a fighter. After all, the girl coming up behind the one bringing her cargo definitely did not look like the kind that should be in a place like that at a time like this. But she was.
At the very least though, the one coming up to June was properly dressed, a warm red coat covering most of her features, a black scarf an beret adorning raven-hair with oddly red shades. Evidently, the girl was not really uncomfortable with anything, though she did not prance. Rather, she walked with casual determination, the kind of someone who knew where they were going and why, but did not seem to be in any rush.

“Good evening miss. I don’t often see anyone coming by these parts this late. Are you a thief?”

She did have to ascertain this one’s identity first, after all. This was her meeting place and idea, but she had not exactly been given a file on who was going to deliver to her.

“Well, if you want to get beat so badly, I am sure I can make time for that next we meet,” she replied with a chuckle. Naturally, she was confident. It was only overconfidence if she lost. And that was stuff she could care about when it happened. Until and unless it did, that was not her problem. After all, time was the one thing she accidentally had too much of – it was everything else she found lacking.

Though, obviously, she hoped that by the time they met again she would be substantially older, not necessarily due to the passage of time. “Though until then, be safe normal lady. And have a good night without much fright. After all, it will only grow more restless the deeper the hour. It is when candy-seeking children vacate the streets that the real thing starts. Or so I have heard.” Another chuckle, this time due to her all but making fun of herself. Or rather, of the girl she was probably being perceived as. With that though, she was going to bid adieu as well.

“Implying, of course, that mine does not,” she replied, really having to hold herself back from at least trying to tell him that hers was much the same. He wouldn’t believe it anyway. And if he did, he would immediately believe her to be trying to deceive him further. No good could possibly come from this at all, so she decided not to.

Instead, she allowed him to be wounded by her wounds. Which was not entirely intentional, but also wasn’t. Things just were complicated, simple as that. “Look, I did not mean to dredge up old wounds. I mean, I get it. Most people your age that fight either have something dear to protect, or they have some regret that they can drown in combat. Granted, it is something more common with men, but I get it. It’s why I try not to get too close to anyone. Makes it harder to lose what matters if only yourself matter to you.” She scratched the back of her head. “Though I guess I am also not enough of a jerk to not care at all about others, even strangers.”

She sighed, letting her shoulders drop briefly. “I came here to look for a distortion. One quick scan of the surface will do. I can tell if they are there when I get close enough. This mystery is one I am content just scratching the outer layer to see if it has the juice I want. Once I do that, I’ll just take off to Route 119 and leave this battlefield to the guys that want to fight.” That sounded reasonable enough to herself. It should convince that old-timer, too.
There was a chuckle, though. “Funnily enough, I am only here because someone else told me something similar about a distortion possibly being here. Guess that’s just a wild goose chase in the end and all I can do is hope.”

“I haven’t even started looking properly yet!” She called out against the sounds of wind-currents working against one another as two evaded while the Charizard still charged them. But Lash was not going to stick around much longer to see what was happening. Since she disengaged backwards, their assailant seemingly angled themselves towards her protector.

Good. He could do his job then. “Let’s make this easier, I am going to dive low and take a look, if I see nothing I’ll just leave. You play with the hotstot.”
That was more expedient, wasn’t it? He got to do his hero stuff, she got to take a look and they would finish faster. Lash was not going to wait for an answer either, instead putting her Hydreigon into a dive towards the right, surveilling the countryside.

The Charizard, meanwhile, took aim once more, seeking to unleash a Fire Breath from closer range.

“Well, your words, not mine,” she replied even though she very much agreed. She had formed that opinion of him long ago, when they first met even. All three of them had been fools in their own right, sometimes helpful, sometimes obtrusive. On some level, she knew that these people simply wanted to help. Even now, that was undeniably that man’s intent. He was not the kind of League person that would simply go and impose his will on others for no reason at all.

He probably thought that this was for her best.
Hence, he was a fool.

Still though, she could accept as much. “We probably should,” she replied before focusing on the skies ahead. Something bright was definitely coming their way now. “No, screw that, bad idea,” she replied before urging her Hydreigon to fall back and to the side, in time to evade a bout of fire shot at them from the incoming Charizard.
Whoever that was probably had not aimed well at all, but she was not going to stick around for too long to find out. Instead, she tried to put Memo between herself and the unknown assailant – ready to bail at a moment’s notice. “No one truly controls anything, that’s right,” she agreed with him despite what she was planning to do.
