Kouji’s eyelids dropped as he gave a close look, his hands went straight to his pokeball straight away as he threw out his Houndoom, as a match. The fire type took the shadow bolt straight to its armoured chest as it was thrown backwards before fire began to spill from its maw.

A torrent of flame escaped Houndoom’s mouth as its chest smoked from the earlier blow; powering through the injury itself, the cursed flames burned through the ground as it rushed towards the Magnectric.

”We’re both smarter than that; we’re not here for some other person’s glory.” Neither of them were brats anymore, adults in the bodies of children; but that was what all young adults thought they were, and a dream faded far faster than memories, was way hazier.

The dodge was too close, it was guiding, Kouji could tell as the knee came up towards him; he had to block it with his arms and allow him to be forced backwards, restarting his offensive. The two were stuck in a knife struggle. ”We’re brats in their eyes, but, we’re not ere for their reasons. I have my reasons, you have yours. But…Can you die for them?”

”That’s the only answer for me, I’ll die either way, so grit your damn teeth.” He said as he went for a right hook that only acted as a fake as he dashed past; his leg hooking upwards to try to smack Doug, but in return Kouji felt the slash across his face, a sharp cut.

”I don’t have any reasons to disagree anymore. The people I don’t want to kill aren’t on the target, and anyone else might as well be one.”

”I’d be too embarrassed to show my face if I hadn’t.” But he couldn’t keep the smirk of his face, as if the happiness couldn’t be kept away from him but he eventually worked it down to neutral; looking at the fallen pokemon he recalled his Kommo’o, and then looked to Absol to keep some attention forward.

”But, we ain’t got time to waste, do we?” He said as he marched on, Absol’s eyes were keeping an eye for some threats that were laying out in the open; whatever they may have come from.

”Not so much weaker than you now though, am I?”

It was a roll that started from the core of his stomach that wanted to roll to his throat, blocked by a wall that was his present common sense. Kouji hated it, the whirlwind of emotion that was threatening to take him over; to wash over the person he tried to become. The person he made himself become.

”Let it? The fuck do you mean let it!” It was a shout that came from the core of his belly. ”Are you kidding me? You forced me to survive here, to try to kill you, and now you try to lend your arm? Fuck that.”

”I only have the fight, nothing else, no-one else. I can’t stop, or else…” His voice stopped in the very middle, he stopped as he grit down his teeth until he could feel his molars crack. ”It doesn’t matter, hope you find someone else to try to save, keep that crap away from me.”

And so his dragon stood there for a singular moment, as if he was waiting not for his trainer, but for the rebuttal if any came.

It was always a pain in the ass, but it was time to go on the offensive; dodging the blows was simple, but attacking had to be done directly.

”Absol, follow behind Kommo’o, keep the pressure up. Quad C.” He said to his pokemon who moved in tandem, delivering strikes aimed at the weakness of the other pokemon; Kouji had no interest in playing little games in the end.

”We’ll create the opening.” It was that simple, push them back so that Theo could finish them off.

Kouji wasn’t going to be left behind in a battle like this, not from his own mistake.

He shouted it out, but kept his focus fixed on the battle ahead as he dashed in; ready to land an overhead kick but it was dodged by the enraged beast; who grabbed his leg and threw him against a tree, the bark cracking against his back.

But that was the opening Qing needed to land a Close Combat, a series of punches, and kicks; naturally weaved into each other. A low kick aimed at the short shins of the monkey, an elbow to the sternum, and a natural uppercut that was a simply feint for an overhand that landed on top of its dome to knock it backwards against the tree.

”Lets not lose the press, we’ve got ‘em on the backfoot.”

Holding the line was simple enough, if that was all; then he’d call up his Absol, bringing the pokemon out, and using the gem on the base of his knife; the pokemon transformed into its mega form.

Kouji’d focus on defence. ”Route DD.” He instructed them, as a Snarl was made in reaction to the twin strikes from the underboss, it was Kommo’o who jumped in front of the to block it with its scales, and then Absol did the same for the returning Leer from another, returning the defence drop back onto them.

”You’re good to go boss, wipe’em out.”

Kouji was stuck facing against a monster, or so it looked; Tangrowth, there was no great advantage to be had, but there was a reason why he had chosen this match-up, it was that singular move that had proven so useful inside of that dream.

The cutting dark attack, sharpened as much as possible by its own ability, it left darkened shards in its wake; to ward off anyone while he was away on duty; but it slapped back with a powerful grass type move, it was a matter of shaving away at each other; Kouji knew that…

He brought out his Houndoom, its mouth already aflame as it breathed the powerful cursed flames it was known for as a flamethrower

”Tch, been playing at these gyms too much.”
He said to himself as he deftfully avoided the spikes on the ground, allowing his two pokemon to cover the battle, and he recalled the Tangrowth before placing the ball on the ground. ”Let’s see how she’s doing.”

He made his way over, his two pokemon moving along with him to catch up with the Oranguru, the pokemon was too smart to be trusted, but he couldn't really just kill a pokemon in front of a ranger. "No killing." He instructed his pokemon who gave a sound of affirmation.

There was a chuckle from Kouji, yeah that was right.

There was a sense of inspiration from that, enough to get his focus set as he grabbed a pokeball, and threw out his Kommo’o.

There was no point in listening to sounds with that kind of armour, instead it returned its own sound based move with Clanging Scales, aimed back at the mist as a trio of Roaring Moons made themselves known.

Kouji and Qing were enjoying the battle against the raging apes, the Primeapes were crazy but the two of them felt better, stronger; Kouji knew he couldn’t fight directly against pokemon; all he could do was create openings for his battle partner to join in.

A kick to redirect a punch away from Qing, before a Wicked Blow blows a gap in the group for a moment. They were relentless, and they attacked hard; but maybe Wicked Blow wasn’t the right move for some of them; as the largest among them exploded in force, a powerful aura exploded from them.

Kouji sighed, he really wasn’t the type of person to be indirect, and so it wasn’t so simple to read in the end.

It was really that simple, but then again; it wasn’t Kouji’s place to question, it was a matter of curiosity in a place that really shouldn’t have held any. But as they walked, he wondered, in the hopes they’d answer questions that he too had.

This shop, whatever it might’ve represented, was still a link to that place, he wasn’t born there, but it might as well have been home to him. But running it would get harder and harder, especially now he was known.
