It was too funny really; the difference in their approach.

But they were aligned in willingness, Kouji got into a squat, knife dancing between his fingers as he looked at the most painful place to begin. ”Aye, you heard my wonderful friend here. But me? I’m not so friendly, I’ll give a few seconds before I start taking nails and skin.” He said as he grabbed one of the trainer’s hands, some struggle, but Kouji got that to stop with a stab just above the knee.

A scream of pain, as he did exactly what he said, he knew how much it hurt because he’d experienced it, for years, in that other place. He remembered it vividly, which ones he hated the most, and now he was doing the exact same thing. There was a sense of sick amusement that rushed through his mind.

Kouji couldn’t keep the smirk off his face as he looked down to Barnaby, eyes focused on the other man before he looked forward.

Plus, he couldn’t help but agree, he wanted to get out of here as soon as possible, and into the next fight; this was the kind of place Kouji could flourish in, the type of battlefield that he enjoyed.

”I just don’t like killing people I don’t know, can’t remember someone if I do that.” One of the arbitrary rules that he made so he could justify such an action to himself. ”Don’t need ya name, but mine’s Kouji. Sea Salt is bad for your hair, so you should get the hell out of here.”

But he didn’t count on that, no-one who arrived on this island just left; he was one of them. Every battle survived meant another battle to run into.

Kouji ran a hand through his hair as he stood on the shore, there was really only one person he didn’t want to run into when it came to the opposite side, and that was just the man he had to run into.

He had gotten lucky the last time around, seeing the man after his clashes, at the end of the day, both beaten up.

Then again if you couldn’t die, then it only made sense you experimented with what that meant, Kouji couldn’t imagine that himself. He’d never felt starvation, only hunger in his life, but the feeling itself was already uncomfortable.

”Well, I guess I’ll follow your example.” The younger man said as he grabbed a box, and threw it forward, waiting for Duraludon to be ready to respond. It wasn’t thrown far enough to reach their opponents, but it did get close.

The explosion of liquid and wooden shards was enough to conceal the Flash Cannon that Kouji had to dive out of the way of. ”Less to carry makes it easy, but fighting a bunch of weaklings ain’t fun, how about we wrap it up.”

The other side was weakening, they didn’t bring much to begin with, a trio of trainers, with a Clefable, a Blissey, and an Audin-

The updraft was dangerous, Kouji could feel Roaring Moon struggling to keep his rider on his back, but that was fine. ”Acrobatics, we’ll ride the wind.” He let himself fall from his pokemon’s back, being thrown around by the wind for a moment until the tight manoeuvres his Roaring Moon made led him to fall back onto his mount and out of the tempest, a few scratches shared between the two, and a lot of dizziness for Kouji, but he held on tight.

Acrobatics didn’t end there, as the dragon used those same tight manoeuvres to make its way towards his opponent, a dangerous person in truth but Kouji couldn’t hope to gain any leverage if he didn’t do crazy things like this.

There was no point in running, he hated that person’s touch, killing Doug wasn’t something he was capable of, nor something he wanted to do to someone who’d aided him so much. But, the least he could do was face this man squarely.

With the knife having landed, he grabbed his own, there was going to be a clash, and he would keep it to a weapon’s fight, for however long he could.

So, the mist parted as Kouji jumped, knife aimed at Doug’s head before slashing downwards, a feint that was supposed to give him a small advantage.

”Look, I’d rather you just run, it’ll be better for the both of us. I don’t mind a fight, I love a fight. But, you’re not a bad guy.”

No, he was. Kouji was the bad guy in this scenario, the man across from him was a fighter just as much as he was.

There was some bittersweetness in that, but he couldn’t muster the same anger as he could before; something that he lost in that cell. ”Used to go with my old man a lot y’know? To Kanto, back in those days. We just smuggled, but kids like to get their noses into crap.”

Things would change soon, with the two beasts interlocked; there was really only one solution; getting up close. There was one rule in this world, and that was a man couldn’t beat a pokemon in a straight fight, even Kouji didn’t contend with it, they existed based on very different rulesets.

But that didn’t apply to the one holding the pokemon.

As he eyed the Honedge warily, he brought out a knife from his inner coat pocket and aimed it forward, his legs spread longways, there was a bridge towards her; but his eyes were stuck on the sword.

”Aye, let the best sword win.”
[break][break]
But only heroes fought fair.
[break][break]
He dashed in, making sure to adjust for the shaking and struggling going on underneath his feet, his other hand behind his back. His body was low to the ground, bracing himself against falling; but also to make striking at him harder than it should’ve been.

Just as he approached, a red flash went on behind him, Greninja. The pokemon of his was ready, prepared, to take this battle on directly. ”Hold the sword.” A pink glow travelled through the air, Extrasensory.

It was strange, but it was in that moment lucidity fully returned to him. Like he could finally see what was going on around him, the words he had said before, which had made no sense to him even at the time. The argument between the two, it was as if all of that clicked for him, and with a click of his teeth…

Kouji himself came up suddenly, before stopping his knife making no contact with skin, but his muscles were tightened ready to explode forward.

”You should quit, I ain’t mind killing a person or two, but I’ve got no interest in killing someone who isn’t seeing me.”

"Well, at least ya ain't scared no more, huh?"

Kouji didn’t care, there was never any other option for him. In the murky depths of the waters around Dewford. But there was a part of him, who wished to take that hand; that of a friend, someone he trusted once.

Between coughs, sputters, and painful movements, like it had felt like hitting a glass wall, he could feel the bruises already beginning to form.

”Sorry Tsubaki, I don’t care about this world…Any world really anymore.” He said as he felt the strength escape from his muscles, he didn’t care if the waters took him, if the currents took him; he’d find his way back to the battlefield, even as a ghost.

”I just want to keep fighting.”

”Even if I ruin it for everyone else.”

That was the end all be all, the truth of the person he’d become, but he had made peace with that even if others couldn’t. But he wouldn’t take that hand, he slapped it away as the wing flap of a dragon hovered above him.

It was an absurd move, his Mandibuzz dying had been one thing; but this battle was another altogether, as space changed around him; Kouji knew that he couldn’t settle on the current train of events, there wouldn’t be any kind of recourse of him if he did that. It really came down to this in the end, it always did.

The sea shook, waves crashed heavily against him as the space the ocean had occupied has ceased to exist, he drew for his pokeball, a red flash as his Roaring moon appeared Kouji had no choice but to grip the dragon by the tail as it began to slowly soar, struggling against the powerful winds.

If it was space that was being distorted, then he’d just go with a distorted creature.

With heavy effort, he dragged himself along the creature’s tail towards its back as the Roaring Moon roared. ”It’s a good start, but…”

He drove his dragon forward, jaws wide open as energies swirled within its maw, growing darker for a moment to belay its typing before he went to bite down on the Gyarados, Jaw Lock, a move that refused to let go once started.

”But, being that far away just tells me you’re scared y’know? A swordsman is braver than a gunslinger.”

There was a point to be made in a battle such as this one…Was it worthwhile to run? Or was it worthwhile to continue? ”Maaah, you Elite Four guys are a pain in the ass…I did hold you back for a while, but y’know what letting me go means, right?” He could spend expendable resources, but spending his main ones was going to be a pain for the rest of the battle.

It was an important choice, just thinking back to the battle against Navy and Isaac Merlo, sometimes it made sense to retreat, maybe if he’d learned that lesson earlier, he’d be in better shape now.

”You’re pretty strong, but; just wait a few months, I’ll be back and we’ll see who has their tail between their legs.” But it wouldn’t be Kouji without trying to get the last word in.

His Roaring Moon turned in the air to fly at the command of his trainer, it was a short buck; but Kouji didn’t immediately shoot out.
