So there wasn't much of a hierarchy. It seemed that it was mostly based on what one could bring to the table. The ones who had the most power to their names were the highest rank, which made sense, and then it went down from there until you were left with grunts. Though that didn't mean grunts couldn't have their own uses. And something told them that if a grunt were to put in enough work, they could easily rise through the ranks and become someone important. But only if they put in the work and didn't continually mess up.

"That makes sense, though everyone has their uses. Team Rocket makes me think of a machine. Each part in a machine has its own job and only works because each part in a machine works together," they said. That was the best analogy they could think of, but to them, it did describe how Team Rocket was run and was better than some other analogies that could be made.

As he spoke about respect being earned, they nodded. Now, that was something they could get behind. Some people just didn't deserve respect. Luckily, they hadn't run into anyone like that in Team Rocket. Though they supposed right now, only Cillian Quinn had their respect, but that was because he was the only higher-up they knew.

howard slayte, they actually weren’t too sure what to think of the older male. But so far, the older male was in the same boat as them and was only a grunt. With some people, it's just harder to know where one stands with them. Usually, it's because they just don't know the other person too well.

Now, there was another person to add to the list, although they weren't sure which list at the moment. However, they felt that they had gotten to know the older male a bit. For instance, he seemed quite confident in his abilities, which was evident from the things he said.

Hearing her comment, they raised their brow, although she wouldn't be able to see it thanks to their mask. They were unsure how to feel being compared to a zombie. They doubted many people would want to be compared to one. "I suppose that's one way of looking at it," they said, their tone completely neutral.

Now, that was just rude. What about them screamed thirteen? Sure, some people took pleasure in being seen as younger than they were, but usually not until they were older. Being sixteen and mistaken for a thirteen-year-old was entirely different. It was kind of offensive, really.

Though they were supposed to be annoyed, there wasn't much to go on appearance-wise. Despite feeling a bit annoyed, their body language gave nothing away. "No, I'm a bit older than that," they said simply, not bothering to disclose their age.

”Let's just say it's not about what I did, but what someone else did or didn't do, and leave it at that," they told her, knowing their response made very little sense. However, they didn't feel the need to explain themselves to the younger teen. After all, they had to be careful about what information got out about them.

Luckily, the subject had moved on from their life, except.... "A cat?" they echoed blankly, sure they had heard her wrong. Was that some kind of metaphor? And if not, how did something like that even happen? Of course, they had heard of feral children, but those stories usually involved someone being raised by canine Pokémon, not feline ones.

They took note of what lay before them. Taking in the two workers and the select number of customers that milled around. This part would be tricky. Usually they got by by using shadows to their advantage. But they didn’t think that would cut it. The area between where they were and where they needed to go was to open to allow for much shadow.

Going through the ventilation system was an option. But one mistake. One little noise and they would be on to them. And crawling through vents wasn’t exactly what they would call fun. More saved for a last resort than something they went out of their way to do.

The walkway above the store part of the business was an option. They figured the boss used it to make sure the workers weren’t slacking off. While not lifting a finger himself. The thought made their blood boil and they had to take a deep breath to calm down. People that didn’t truly work and profited off of other people rubbed them the wrong way.

The first set of stairs that led up to the walkway was only a few meters away from them, maybe a bit more. It was close enough that they knew they would make it without drawing attention to themself. It helped the first set of stairs were also in the shadows. They had always been good at using the shadows to their advantage. Blending in with them.

Both employees were both still preoccupied as were the few customers. The few customers preoccupied with the wares that were being sold. Making sure to be careful they made their way to the steps. Stepping lightly they made their way up the metal stairs onto the walk way.

Due to years of sneaking around they knew how to move silently. Their steps were light enough not to even make a sound on the metal walkway as they made their way over the room. As they had come to notice no one bothered to look up. They had learned that most people didn’t expect threats to come from above, so they didn’t bother looking up.

Reaching the other set of stairs they made sure that no one was looking in the direction of the second set of stairs before slowly descending them, making sure not to make a sound. Keeping to the shadows they ducked into the hallway. It wasn’t long hallway. And they figured it had only been set up in such a way for the boss to feel like he has some sort of privacy since his office would be somewhere in the hall.

They had been able to get past the floor with the store unnoticed. Now they just had to get to their targets office without being noticed. Which wasn’t to hard since there were a few rooms they could easily duck into if they had to to avoid someone.[break] Cillian Quinn

Poseidon seemed to be the first aware that someone was coming. As their Greninja suddenly became alert they turned towards the direction the dual type was looking. After a bit they could hear what sounded like footsteps coming in their direction making them stiffen.

Finally a man and a shiny Eelektross came in view. They were about to inquire about who the man was when they heard a noise from behind them. Instinctively they jumped to the side just in time to avoid a Braviary’s wing attack. Deciding they could worry about who the person was later they turned to face the two Pokémon that had showed up.

Neither was one they wanted to catch. Neither really screamed stealthy. And they were still a bit miffed that the Braviary had tried to attack them so they directed Poseidon to drive it off. And the other person could do whatever he wanted as far as he was concerned. Well whatever he wanted as long as it didn’t involve attacking them after all.[break] Remiel Calcifet

That was fine with them. They weren’t really one for talking. They had only told her what they had because she had asked. And it was enough of a plan for them to go off of. The teen didn’t have to give her every little detail of their plan to pull it off. They just had to give her enough of it to pull it off.

They could go over the plan until they were blue in the face and still get nothing done. So it was best to just kick things off. Simply nodding they started to kick their plan off once they were given the go ahead. Getting on their crobat after releasing him from the pokeball. They would then rise into the sky until they were over the range of the camera’s before flying to the roof than they would lower themselves to the roof.

As he had expected the door on the roof had been left open. It made them wonder if there just wasn’t a way to close it. Surely not though since the building would start to flood if it rained. Now was not the time to be thinking about all of this though.

”I guess,” they said with a shrug. They had never actually given much thought to it. About why they were the way they were. But it was probably a mixture of things. Probably a bit to do with how they grew up and the incident that had led to them seeking out Team Rocket.

And there was also the whole not being able to get to one as easily. After all you couldn’t get hurt if you didn’t allow yourself to get close to someone. That’s what they thought anyway. Not that it still didn’t happen. Sometimes it was impossible not to let someone behind your walls.

It’s all nice and good to believe in your skills but not to the point that you would end up underestimating your opponent.’ they thought but didn’t say anything. ”Don’t have to worry about it that. I’m always working on improving myself. Bettering my skills. So I don’t end up letting down Team Rocket.”

Though if they were being honest with themself at the moment they just didn’t want to let down Cillian Quinn. After all he had been the one to take a chance on them. To accept them into Team Rocket. That went a long way in their book.

That wasn’t something they were about to get into with Priam. Upon hearing his question they had to stop and think. ”Yeah could you tell me more about the rankings. I know grunt is the lowest but I’m still trying to wrap my head around the hierarchy as a whole.”[break] priam conrad

Sage deftly caught the pokeball before putting it away. They than withdrew Poseidon but kept Nightwing out so he could keep an eye on things. They than followed after the underboss. As they had initially expected the interrogation wasn’t the only part of the test. They had to do something else to prove themselves. It made sense. After all they couldn’t just trust anyone that came their way. They had to make sure the person was legit and would be able to pull their weight.

Having followed him to what appeared to be a small business they listened to what he had to say. There wasn’t much to go on. Making someone see the error of their ways could mean a lot of things. Though it also depended on the person definition as well. So they supposed it would depend on what he felt teach someone the error of their ways were.

Something told them they would get more than that though so they nodded. ”I’ll do what I can,” they agreed their response giving nothing away of what they were planning. Once they were sure the underboss had nothing more to add they slip inside making sure to stay hidden.

They could tell that the the younger teen wasn’t to happy about not being able to obtain their mask. But they didn’t like just anyone seeing their face. So far only Cillian Quinn had seen what they looked like without their mask. And as far as they were concerned the fewer that knew what they really looked like the better. They never knew when some rocket would decide to defect. It just wasn’t a chance they were willing to take.

Sage actually considered her questions. Wondering how much they should divulge. Before deciding to only go with a watered down version of the truth. ”Someone who currently thinks I’m dead. And I would rather they continue to think that. My face is to recognizable so if another Rocket were to defect all they would have to do is give a description of what I look like and they would know I’m alive,” they told her all this like one would discuss the weather.

It was their turn to quirk a brow. Not that she would see it. ”Your dad wanted you to join Team Rocket?” they echoed their voice giving nothing away. The fact someone’s parent would want them to join Team Rocket wasn’t something they could wrap their head around. Their parents would be ashamed if they knew they had aligned themselves with Team Rocket. Not that they hadn’t been ashamed of them to begin with. They weren’t stupid. Sage just nodded as they watched what he did. They saw no point in continuing on with the conversation topic. Doing so might bring up the fact that the name they were currently using was not their own. Though they figured some people had already figured it. After all if they went to such great lengths to keep their face hidden then why would they continue to use the name they were born with. But just in case people hadn’t figured it out they would rather be safe than sorry.

They watched as he shoved the stake back into the ground before responding to their question. ”Kind of surprising really, I guess that’s just one thing people are considerate about,” they said, not bothering to hide that they thought a lot of people were inconsiderate. They hadn’t seen anything to really prove them wrong. So they would continue to think that way.

They leaned forward for a closer look but made sure not to lean far enough to overbalance. Listening to what he had to say he nodded. ”I guess it’s good it’s not getting colder,” they said standing back up to their full height. ”Hopefully it would keep being so bad,” they told him, not real sure what else to say.

Listening to what he said they nodded. Though his next response gave them bit of a pause. Cocoa? That was the chocolate drink wasn’t it? Their parents had never let them have it. So they supposed it would be a good time to try it. To see what they had been missing.

They watched as he looked through his way phone. Probably so see what kind of Pokémon he had. His guess was proven right when the underboss told him he had an Elgyem to spare. And then he offered to just give it to them if they joined them. That was a good deal. Considered that he could’ve just offered them food and a place to stay and they would’ve been sold.

If they could get something better out of the deal they were all for it though. When he talked about it not being too late to back out they shook their head. ”I choose to walk a path the league wouldn’t approve of. It’s not something I can go over this point in time because I’m trying to wrap my own head around it,” they explained. They had never truly been a resentful person. So these feelings of resentment they had for their parents was still something they were trying to wrap their head around.

With that said they followed after the man. They wondered if they would have to do some kind of task to prove their dedication. They were still suspicious. But they didn’t seem to be lying. Hopefully they weren’t making a huge mistake. For all they knew the older male was a good liar. It was a definite possibility. But they didn’t feel like they had much choice. He had even told his Pokémon to stand down and not hurt Poseidon anymore. He could’ve easily allowed his Pyroar to further injure the Greninja.

Sighing the jumped down from their perch on top of the filing cabinet landing gracefully. ”I still don’t really trust you but I concede. Try anything and my Greninja won’t hold back. He’s extremely protective over me,” they said hoping the warning would sink in. The guy wouldn’t be able to say they hadn’t warned him now.

They moved over to the elite ranger keeping their guard up. After letting the guy pat them down they couldn’t help but let out a snort of derision as he spoke of getting out from under rocket. ”League won’t get me what I want,” they said their tone making it clear they wouldn’t be getting into all that. Their quest for revenge wasn’t something they just went around telling people.

Once they had been patted down they followed the elite ranger to the front entrance. Once there he returned his greninja before releasing his crobat. ”I would say it was nice meeting you but we both know I would be lying. Don’t expect things to be so easy if we cross paths again,” they said as they hopped onto their crobat.

”I’ll be leaving now,” they said before getting Nightwing to get them out of there. They didn’t look back. Not wanting to be reminded of failing their mission. Hopefully the higher ups wouldn’t be to peeved that they hadn’t been able to complete their mission.[break] Josh Devlin

Sage ground their teeth together as their partner was effectively pinned due to the older trainers pyroar using takedown. It was the first time they showed any real emotion. Or at least any strong ones. They peered down at the pinned ninja Pokémon. Running through ideas of what they could do. They could always return the dual type and send out another one of their companions. But they didn’t want to reveal too much of their hand. They had only gotten by the past few months by keeping their cards close to their chest.

The higher ups would be pissed if they didn’t complete this mission. But getting killed or worse captured and made to be part of the league again wouldn’t do anyone any good. And they didn’t need to go riling up other leaguers on their mission to take out their parents. That would only serve to complicate things. And right now they didn’t need any complications.

”I’m suppose to believe you’ll actually let me go? Why should I believe you won’t just stab me in the back. Or that you won’t just drag me to the league. Because if it’s that option then I’d rather die,” they said a note of resentment in their tone when they spoke of being stabbed in the back. The implication was there that they knew what it was like to be betrayed and from someone who aligned themselves with the league of what was said was any indication.

It was also a bit concerning that they weren’t real fazed by the idea of themself dying. Though the only thing that really held them was their twin. And basically was the only thing that kept them going. Thoughts of their twin had in their opinion been what had kept them from dying months ago when they had been so badly injured.[break] Josh Devlin

They were starting to really not like this guy. The sound made them cringe. Maybe meditating to sharpen their senses hadn’t been the best idea. But they hadn’t expected the male to use a z move against them. But if he wanted to play dirty so would they.

Ignoring the damage that the guys move had caused they instead turned to make sure their partner was okay. The force of the move had pinned him against the wall, but they knew that the ninja Pokémon would be able to get free. ”You okay, Poseidon?” they asked the dual type.

The ninja Pokémon gave a sound of affirmation and they nodded curtly. The guys voice dragged their attention away from their Pokémon. And they had to resist letting out a groan. It would probably be some sign of their age if they did that. After all wouldn’t that seem like something a moody teenager would be. Not that they were moody.

”This again, you’re really starting to sound like a broken record,” they said before looking towards their Greninja who at this point had gotten himself off the wall. He was sure that move had worked on intimidating his partner. Unfortunately for Josh that intimidation would turn into anger. Especially if he felt his trainer was being threatened.

The fact the Greninja had moved in between the gym leader and his trainer as if he could block the gym leaders view of his trainer spoke volumes of how protective he was of his trainer. ”I think I should send out someone else….” the resulting glare from their partner directed their way made them sigh.

”Fine if you think your still up to battling I won’t step in your way. Just keep them at bay we don’t want to hurt them just keep them from catching us,” they told the ninja pokemon. ”I swear since he found me badly injured he’s been so protective,” they muttered under their breath before they went back to the task of getting the documents they needed making sure to put the ones that they didn’t need back where they had found them.

While Sage did that Poseidon unleashed a water pulse towards the pyroar. ”Be careful with water attacks,” they called out without looking up from what they were doing. Though the mask they wore made it seem like they couldn’t see what they were doing they actually could.[break] Josh Devlin
