Their first instincts had been right. The guy sucked. Probably to use to throwing his weight around and making others fight his battles for him. The guy had no fighting abilities whatsoever. In fact the added benefit of Haze hadn’t been necessary since they were sure they would’ve been able to fight the guy with their eyes closed.

Having dodged his initial attack they went for their own attack. Which involved them hooking their legs out from under them and sending him to the ground. From the sound it sounded like his head hit the ground, but after checking his vitals he realized he was still alive just knocked out with possibility of him having a concussion.

They had just got done checking the targets vitals when the underboss made his appearance. “He’s alive but knocked out. May have a concussion, he knocked his head a bit hard,” he explained not seeming the least bit concerned about the possibility of him having a concussion.

Remembering the phone they ducked into the side room to retrieve it stopping the recording in the process. At the point of them stepping back into the room the Haze had begun to fade so he was able to navigate through it until he reached the underbosses side.

“I recorded the conversation. Unsure if you want to anything to him on your own but he can’t claim that he misplaced the money or some nonsense,” they said holding the phone out towards him. He was unsure if that would be the case but he was sure if it was they guy would be more prone to be intimidated by Gavin than him and would perhaps try and weasel out of trouble. No he knew he definitely would try and weasel out of trouble.

He had been around to many people like the business boss to not know the personality type. He had just said those things to him for no reason after all. He knew saying those things would get under his skin and that he would have to defend himself against an attack. He had even countered for him calling for back something that had failed considering the fact he had a rotom that had allowed for him to call for help.[break] Cillian Quinn

"You sure? Because you sure are getting defensive for someone who says I don't know what I'm talking about. And let's not forget you called for help. Hoping to fight dirty by ganging up on someone," they said with mock hurt, though if the boss was really paying attention, he might catch an undercurrent of sarcasm under their tone.

Getting him all riled up had been easy. A lot easier than they had thought it would be. Hah, had they hurt his ego or something? That's what it seemed like to them.

Wondering how far they could push it, they continued. Hopefully, he would get so mad he would mess up. Anger did tend to cloud a person's judgment. Made it so they didn't think things through.

"Ah yes, I'm sure those people you mentioned will be dealt with accordingly as well, if they ever make the foolish decision of opposing us anyway. The whole talk of owning a business before I was even born won't work on me. If that business was that important, you could've moved your business elsewhere, but considering that would've involved money, you chose to stay. You knew the rules when you decided to stay. Now anything that happens to you will be due to your own foolishness."

They might've continued saying more, but the targets Rotom made an appearance. As the lights went out, they remained silent. From the sounds outside, they could tell that Gavin had engaged in battle with the target's backup.

'So much for a surprise attack,' he mused to themself. The power outage stunt had caused the target the element of surprise. Not only that... but Sage fought exceedingly well in the dark. But could the same be said about the target?

One thing that most might not know was that he was always aware of his surroundings and that he thought on his feet. Meaning he was always prepared for any type of battle. Which is why he knew the target was the type to attack when he thought the opponent had let their guard down.

They were also aware that, in order not to get distracted, the target would keep his focus on them. So he wouldn't notice the Crobat appear outside the window behind the him. But Sage would and would tap their fingers against their leg. Which was some kind of signal, but to the boss, he would probably simply think they were bored, not knowing them that well.

Sensing the older male ready for an attack, they would suddenly pivot to face the older male's attack on. Though they kept his footing light in order to dodge if they had to, and the way they held their arms suggested they knew how to deflect attacks.

Unknown to the target, while he focused on attacking Sage, Nightwing would release a black cloud and use the wind from his wings to cause the Haze to seep through the cracks of the window into the room. The boss probably wouldn't notice until he realized that his vision was limited even more than it should be.[break] Cillian Quinn

They debated telling him that they had trusted one member to know what they looked like. Cillian Quinn knew what they looked like. In the end, they decided it didn't really matter. That, and they weren't sure if announcing that a superior knew somewhat of their identity and had promised to keep it secret would reflect well on the older male. They didn't really want to cause trouble for the underboss if they could help it. They didn't see themselves as good by any means, but that didn't mean they were an asshole.

"I'll burn that bridge when I get to it," they finally said. There was nothing to be done about it now. They had made their decision and they would stick with it.

As they got started, they would keep an ear out for Kouji in case he wanted to talk some more. "Hey Poseidon, give me some water over here," they would call out to the Greninja, moving aside so he could use Water Pulse in the area they were cleaning to make it easier to clean.

It was while Poseidon was doing that, that Kouji would speak up once more. They would regard the male as they debated how much to tell him. It wouldn't hurt to tell him a bit. Just a bit though.

They could easily tell that they had caught her off guard. Not that she tried to hide it. Instead of bringing attention to it, they had just inquired about the length of time they had been waiting. Luckily for them, the woman hadn’t been waiting long. They hated making people wait, something that was partly due to their upbringing. After all, their parents had been big on punctuality.

As she knocked in a certain rhythm, they took the chance to look around. Not very many people were out and about. It was something they had noticed on the way here. They hadn’t had to avoid as many people as they usually did. They supposed that meant most people were at work.

Their looking around didn’t take long, and by the time the door opened, they had already turned forwards once more. Slipping into the room, they immediately took note of the boxes, making sure to note how many there were. Upon doing that, they would mentally judge if they could move all the boxes in one go or if it would take more than one trip. While they weren’t as good at math as some people, they weren’t terrible at it, so some mental calculations weren’t really that hard.

Letting Marguerite deal with the clerk, they didn’t tune back in until after he had left. They looked over the boxes themselves, giving the one Marguerite was looking at a cursory glance. “I don’t have much use for Aron and Diglett, neither are very ninja-like,” they said with a shrug. “Zubat… well, I already have a Crobat that I use as a ride Pokémon, and I don’t do doubles. I’m guessing the better Pokémon will be in the last few boxes we load up.”

They were sure she was considering swiping one, but if they were being honest with themselves, they were too picky about the Pokémon they acquired. Pokémon trafficking was something they had never done before. Theft had been more their speed, along with getting into places they didn't belong, like their dad's office. They didn't break in for any reason other than being bored.

However, they supposed the mission wasn't too different from what they were used to. According to the briefing, they were supposed to move Pokémon with someone named Marguerite without drawing attention to themselves. This was something they could definitely handle, considering their proficiency in stealth.

Stealth had always been their forte, and they often relied on it when leaving the base. They had even used it to get to the base, blending into the shadows to move from the base to the meeting place without being detected. Their mask, which they always wore, tended to attract attention if they didn't.

Arriving at the meeting place, they were surprised to find that they weren't the first ones there. "I hope you weren't waiting too long," they said to her once they were close enough to speak in a lowered volume.[break] Marguerite

As they looked at the phone they had swiped, they realized that there was no security to prevent unauthorized access to the device. They searched through the phone until they found what they were looking for, and then they hit the record button. They discreetly hid the phone behind an object before returning to the main office, just before the power went out.

Initially, they found some amusement in the target's first reaction, but that amusement quickly faded as the man's Rotom activated the phone enough to send for help. "I should be surprised that you're a coward, but I'm not," they said, their voice concealing the anger they felt inside. "You can't even attempt to solve the problem on your own. Instead, you just throw your weight around."

If they were being honest with themselves, they also felt bitter and slightly offended. However, they knew it was silly to feel that way since they didn't really know the older man. But there was something about him that reminded them of their parents.

Upon hearing the target's comment, they rolled their eyes, even though the other person couldn't see it. "Listen up, asshole. You should have escaped when you had the chance. All those who fled when Team Rocket first targeted Sootopolis, you should have joined them, but you didn't. By staying, you pledged your allegiance to Team Rocket," they said, their voice calm but cold.

Before the target could respond, they continued speaking. "It's not really about Team Rocket, is it? You just don't want to pay because you're stingy. I'm not stupid; I know how it works. The wealthy stay wealthy by keeping the money to themselves, and that's why you don't want to pay up."

They understood how it worked. Their own parents had refused to pay their debts, and as a result, people had come looking for them, and they had suffered the consequences of their parents' mistakes. They wouldn't allow something like that to happen again.

Although they appeared fixated on the target, they were actually paying attention to their surroundings. They didn't know who the target had called, but they had imagined what the person might be like in their mind.

Most likely, the person wouldn't have guns, as that would attract too much attention, and something told them that the guy didn't want that. This also ruled out a sword, crossbow, and bow and arrow. All of those would draw too much attention. If they had to guess, they would assume that the person might have knives as weapons.

If not, then it would come down to hand-to-hand combat. They had actually learned martial arts, but only because their parents had wanted their children to appear more impressive. Essentially, it was just something for their parents to show off to other wealthy parents.[break] Cillian Quinn

Knowing Marza would deal with the guard, they slipped past him when he was distracted by a noise. From the sound, they were sure it was just the air conditioning kicking back on. Seriously, where did they find these two? One who was more interested in his phone and one who appeared to be scared of his own shadow.

As they reached the case with the jewel, they decided not to dwell on it too much. After giving a quick glance to ensure no other guards were nearby, they studied the case. Cheap lock, no alarm. Seriously, the security for the jewel sucked. They couldn't feel bad about stealing it with such poor security.

Eyeing the lock once more, they shook their head. It was a really cheap lock. Picking it would be child's play. Seriously, the lock on their father's office had been way more complicated than this.

Not wasting any more time, they began to pick the lock. Their sharp hearing caught the telltale click before the lock fell into their hand. 'Bingo,' they thought with a smirk, making sure one last time that there was no additional security on the case before opening it.

Looking inside, they saw that the jewel was just nestled in there. Not wanting to take any chances, they took out something of the same weight as the jewel and swiftly switched them. They didn't want to risk the jewel being on a pressure sensor, which was pretty easy to trick.

No alarm sounded, so they closed the case, relocked it, and went back to their partner for the mission. "Got it," they said quietly, showing her the jewel.[break] Marza Volchitsa

They barely paid attention to what the other person was doing. Instead, they continued to keep an eye on their surroundings. However, it was clear that they hadn't prepared themselves enough because when they heard a battle behind them, they turned just in time to see Poseidon use Night Slash against a Decidueye.

As the Decidueye used Shadow Sneak on Poseidon, they realized what had happened. The Decidueye must have used Shadow Sneak to get close to their Pokémon without them noticing. They mentally berated themselves for not being more aware of their surroundings. They needed to be better if they wanted to be a ninja.

As their companion caught their own Pokémon and mentioned having to go, they absently nodded to show they heard. They didn't do anything more than that, though, too focused on the battle between the Greninja and Decidueye. They were sure Poseidon would end up being the winner.

As they watched, Poseidon used Aerial Ace against the Pokémon, causing it to collapse to the ground. As the wild Pokémon struggled to get back up, Sage saw their chance and lobbed a Pokéball at the Decidueye.

'Trade secrets, huh?' he mused to himself. The whole idea was quite amusing, considering that the person he was talking to didn't seem much older than himself. He wasn't sure if he should believe him, as it seemed like common knowledge for someone involved in a criminal organization.

However, he decided to play along and nodded. "I'll keep that in mind," he said, his tone giving nothing away, making it unclear how he truly felt about the matter. Hopefully, Priam would think he genuinely believed him and wouldn't realize that he was just pretending.

As he spoke, they shrugged. "I came hoping to add more Pokémon to my team, but since I've never been to Mauville Hills, it could be seen as exploring," they told the dark-haired man. They nodded in agreement, seeing no need for a verbal response since they had already been invited to join. Perhaps with fewer words.

Their attention was briefly diverted when a Frillish appeared. They watched the scene unfold but didn't take any action. While Frillish wasn't a bad Pokémon, it didn't fit with what they were looking for in their team.

The dark-haired man seemed pleased to add the Frillish to his collection before Eelektross could catch it, so they supposed it wasn't a complete loss. As he scolded his Pokémon for trying to eat the Frillish, they looked around, but the only other Pokémon that appeared, an Alcremie, didn't interest them.

They weren't sure if they agreed with that or not, that her way of looking at things was the best way. Then again, they supposed most people would think their way of viewing things was the best way. It kind of made them think of those people who liked to be right, though they weren't about to tell her that.

"I don't know if the people who think I'm dead have said anything. I don't really pay much attention to the news. Too annoying," they said with a small shrug. If they did mention it, then they lied. Their parents definitely wouldn't admit to having left them for dead. That would kind of reflect badly on them. And if there was one thing they hated, it was to look bad.

They supposed so, but to them, their voice didn't sound like it belonged to someone so young. Sure, they deepened their voice around leaguers if they ever ran into them, but that was to keep anyone from figuring out who they really were. And their voice wasn't really deep, but it didn't break like it would if someone was going through puberty.

Though they could dismiss the mistaken age thing, they were a bit annoyed about what her dad had told her. "Kind of an exaggeration, girls often mature faster than boys, but not always. How fast someone grows or doesn't grow all depends on how a person is made up, their chemistry."

"And besides, I don't use the term boy or girl to refer to myself. I'm non-binary," they told her, unsure how she would react. Not everyone agreed with that kind of stuff. Their parents definitely didn't. Not that they had ever told their parents how they felt about being seen as just a boy. They were just happy that their face structure made it hard to tell.

As she mentioned it being hard being blamed for stuff you didn't do, they nodded. "It wasn't exactly like that, it's more like I paid for someone else's mistakes and the people who I suffered for didn't do anything to help me. What can one expect from cowards though?"

Talking about their parents wasn't something they enjoyed, so they were relieved when the conversation moved on. Not that they really showed it. Instead, they just listened to what she had to say. So it hadn't been some kind of metaphor?

The fact that a person would be raised by a Liepard was surprising. They knew that Pokémon could be cruel, so they were sure growing up with one as a parent hadn't been fun. But the way she spoke of him spoke of adoration. Wasn't there a term for that? Someone who formed an attachment to their abuser? Or were they just thinking of Stockholm Syndrome? They were sure that had to do with kidnapping though. Oh well, it wasn't like it really mattered.

Was she surprised they had joined by themselves? It did seem that way. Seeing no reason to continue on with that line of conversation, they simply nodded. With nothing else to talk about when it came to that line of conversation, the conversation moved on.

To their relief, their partner followed quietly behind them. Something told them that this work wasn't the kind of work the woman was really used to, so they had been a bit worried, not that they would have ever said as much. They knew better than to say that kind of stuff out loud. But thankfully, their worries were unfounded, and moving quietly didn't seem to be too much of a challenge for the woman.

Letting her deal with the guards made things easier for them, so they nodded. They figured out that was the reason they had been paired with her. While they could take someone out of commission if they really had to, their skills relied more on speed than brute strength. Therefore, unless they could catch the person off guard, someone else was better at taking out their enemies.

The first guard was quickly taken out, but then again, he hadn't been a very good one. Seriously, what kind of guard would play around on their phone? It was almost laughable how easy it was for the beast to take him out. However, they remained professional and kept their expression completely neutral as they moved on.

The second guard was more alert than the first. He seemed to be taking his job seriously and was patrolling around. However, he was a bit jumpy, jumping at every little sound and whipping around to face the direction of any new sound. At one point, he even spooked himself by hearing the echo of his own footsteps.

His jumpiness could make things easy or hard, depending on how one saw it. As they waited for Marza to take out the second guard, they took the time to get their bearings.[break] Marza Volchitsa

A third employee was unexpected, but it didn't hinder them. They moved quickly, conscious of their actions. They ducked down to make themselves a smaller target and slipped around to the side of the cart that was in their blind spot. Attacking someone from their blind spot was the best way to catch them off guard. They were taking advantage of this knowledge.

However, they knew that this tactic wouldn't work for long. So, they immediately threw something powdery into the employee's face to blind him. Then, in the same motion, they slammed their shoulder into his stomach to prevent him from crying out. Only a hand on the older person's wrist kept them from crashing to the ground. Before he could recover his breath, they shoved him back into the storage closet he had come out of.

The first thing they did was put some duct tape over his mouth to prevent him from crying out. Then, they used the duct tape to bind his hands and feet together.

Once that was done, they would search the guy, slipping his phone and the keys that led to the storage closet into their own pocket. "Nothing personal," they murmured, knowing the guy couldn't really see them that well, probably because they had thrown cayenne seasoning into his eyes. Not the most orthodox of weapons, but it worked.

Making sure one last time that the employee wouldn't be getting free, they made their way back to the door. After making sure no one else was around, they slipped out of the supply closet, wheeling the cart back into the supply closet. They were about to close the door when they thought they saw a box that was supposed to go to the boss's office.

Thinking quickly, they grabbed the box they had spotted before closing and locking the door to the supply closet. They weren't too worried about the employee; sure, someone would let him out after they had accomplished what they had come to do. Just to be safe, they would let Gavin know about the guy. There was no reason for the employees to suffer if they had nothing to do with what the boss had done, after all.

Box in hand they made their way to the bosses office. This time they made their way to the bosses office completely undisturbed. Making sure the box was high enough to avoid the boss from noticing they weren’t the normal guy the slipped into the bosses office.

Either the boss is too preoccupied with what he's doing or the box obscured their appearance because the target only glanced up long enough to wave them to put the box in the room to the side before returning to his paperwork. Slipping into the room, they put the box down and were about to head back out when the boss requested that they bring him a coffee.

Their gaze flickered towards the coffee machine before turning it on. Using the sound of the coffee machine to their advantage, they released Poseidon from his pokeball. Knowing his duty, the ninja Pokémon immediately slinked off to stealthily take out the cables to the boss's office phone and computer to prevent him from being able to call for help.[break] Cillian Quinn
