Luck was not on Nabi's side. Even if Bruno's MUDDY WATER had made its mark, one hit from any of those oncoming ENERGY BALLS could be the end for Bruno. In this instance, Bruno's size did not help.[break][break]

The swampert moved on all fours to avoid the onslaught of ENERGY BALLS, but the tiny shaymin's power was too overwhelming. At his leg, he felt one make contact and explode with great power. Bruno cried out, highly affected by the attack.[break][break]

Nabi had to stay cool. "Shake it off, Bruno," she tried to say in encouragement. "Keep your distance, and use ROCK SLIDE!"[break][break]

His leg felt like it was burning. Regardless, the heavy-hitter was determined to not lose to a munchkin. Around him, several rocks appeared and floated like a barrier, except that it was not for protection. Like his opponent, he too attempted an attack in numbers. The ROCK SLIDE hurled its way toward the shaymin, albeit a little sloppy in delivery.[break][break]

The MUD SHOT was at the mercy of the EARTHQUAKE, completely losing its viscosity and merging into the ground's natural minerals. Nabi cursed under her breath. What a poor start to a battle.[break][break]

Not only did the MUD SHOT crumble beneath the broken floor, but Bruno found himself captured in its crevices. He faltered on all fours before a section of the land spiked up and hit his chin, sending the creature onto his back. Fortunately, it wasn't the most life-threatening move, but an injury was still an injury, and he had been knocked off his balance.[break][break]

"Back on your feet, Bruno!" Nabi commanded. "If MUD SHOT doesn't work, then let's see you avoid a MUDDY WATER!"[break][break]

It was now Bruno's turn to rule the field. The brown-colored water formulated around the swampert's area before consuming the stage they battled on - surely, Nabi thought, there was no way that giant metal thing could avoid this![break][break]

She knew Cian was here. How could she not? The man's name was all over the place, battle after battle, with a number of wins under his belt. She could chalk him up to be a local celebrity, really. He was already a respected gym leader.[break][break]

Of all people, who would've guessed her snowball would hit her.[break][break]

It was too late by the time the snow began its departure from her hand, its trajectory on target with precise speed. Every nerve jolted in Nabi's body, sending warning signals to her brain. In response to the woman's laced words, she stood upright as if she were under control.[break][break]

Even with sprinkles of snow in her blackened hair, Yumi was incredibly gorgeous. In fact, the snow made her look young, hip--like it had been purposefully put there for a commercial shoot, and Yumi was the unsuspecting girl about to advertise a catalog of winter-themed lingerie.[break][break]

There was but one thing for Nabi to do. Grovel.[break][break]

Her body whipped forward, the tip of her nose nearly scrapping against the ground in the process. "Ma'am! I sincerely apologize with every fiber of my worthless being! It was an accident!" Bruno eyed his fearsome opponent down. Oh, the horror![break][break]

Pfft. What could a little shaymin possibly do to a big brute like himself. The swampert displayed his overconfidence with a show of chest-drumming. Truthfully, Nabi was worried. Shaymin was indeed the tiniest (and most adorable) thing she'd ever fought in a battle, but with the reveal of a tera orb, that put them in an unfavorable position. Nabi didn't have any fancy gizmos to help Bruno out here. It was all reliant on his raw power.[break][break]

It was best for them to keep some distance.[break][break]

"Ok, Bruno, drown that thing in a MUDDY WATER!" Nabi ordered. "Please don't actually drown, little guy," she thought, a wee bit guilty.[break][break]

With a slap of his hands and a bellowing roar, Bruno called forth a dirty puddle of water at his feet. It increased in volume until it was a large wave riding toward the shaymin.[break][break]

The ribbons, the pink accents, those blue, sparkling eyes! Nabi found herself enamored by the sylveon before her, its trainer equally as pink and girlish. Nabi was in love with her outfit and the silky lengths of her hair. However, her stuttering mouth was an earful, perfect for breaking Nabi out of her trance.[break][break]

"Yep, that's me," Nabi reaffirmed. "And even though you and your sylveon easily win in style points, me and Bruno-" Nabi patted her swampert, "aren't going to hold back. Don't cry to us if we break a leg!"[break][break]

She spoke half-joking, internally hoping that Bruno wasn't going to actually harm the precious sylveon all too much.

It was a little comforting for Nabi to see someone she knew here. Shalin's voice perked right up, just like the sunny disposition she naturally resonated from her being. "Shalin," she called back, her eyes flickering to the shiny beedrill beside her for a brief moment. "I'm not surprised to see you here." Was Shalin planning on using her Sygna Suit today? Or did she have something else in store for the novice Nabi?[break][break]

"It's been... a valuable experience," she then followed with in response to Shalin's question. She rested a hand against her partner pokemon for the matches, her mighty, yet brash swampert. It was important for her to use this tournament as an opportunity to build her relationship with Bruno, more than anything else. "Good luck," Nabi then said before getting her mindset into battle mode.

Unlike her well-renowned opponent, Nabi did not have a fleet of fans to cheer her on and provide moral support. It was, unsurprisingly, intimidating for her to discover her next match was against a gym leader. Intimidating but welcomed. She could see how well she fared against an official member of the Hoenn League.[break][break]

"Yo," Nabi replied, smooth and casual. "Your zeraora has a beautiful coat. I'm sure you've trained it well." It was an honest comment with the slightest hint of jealousy. Nabi admired Raikiri's colorful fur and electric energy. Where could she catch one of these?[break][break]

"Say hello, Bruno," she then said, elbowing her swampert. Bruno made a grunt, unamused by the cat-like creature he was about to face off against. "Also, I'm Nabi. May the best of us win."[break][break]

Battle time. She knew she held the advantage in this match, but that was no reason to take it easy, especially against a gym leader.

Swampert VS Bewear. Nabi smirked to herself. She could already see Bruno getting excited about this battle, his body lowered to move forward and engage in hand-to-hand combat like a true warrior. Nabi knew she wouldn't have long before Bruno would take off without her instruction. So, without further ado, she gave Bruno the signal.[break][break]

"Go big or go home, right, Bruno?" she whispered under her breath. "ROCK SLIDE!"[break][break]

With the trainers and their pokemon in position, the battle had begun. Nabi wasn't going to let "Kingscotti" make the first move and potentially get a headstart in this battle.[break][break]

"Here we go -- Bruno, start with a SUPERSONIC."[break][break]

The swampert began with a wide, open mouth and released an ear-splitting shriek to try and throw the opposing incineroar off. But Nabi wasn't done yet.[break][break]

"Follow up with HYDRO PUMP," she added, full of confidence.[break][break]

As the SUPERSONIC came to an end, Bruno lowered his lip to give himself a moment of reprise, and then pursed top and bottom to shoot a strong torrent of water toward Jangle.[break][break]

He uttered a low groan from the back of his throat and thudded the ground with his large hands. "Yes, and this is Bruno," Nabi chimed and patted the side of the swampert's head. Thunder split through the sky, angry and loud. Nabi twirled the cherry-patterned umbrella in her hands, just the slightest nervous about lightning striking her. Bruno, on the other hand, had nothing to worry about.[break][break]

Nabi stood with her swampert by her side, hand held out for paxton concordas to shake. "Interesting hair," she told them. Her eyes did a quick up and down, silently judging their appearance. Passing. Barely.[break][break]

The ends of her lips curved into the smallest of smiles. "Well, let's make this a good one, yeah?" She and Bruno moved to take their places.

Nabi wasn't happy with his reply. She wasn't going to be happy with anything less than 100%. Still, she was powerless in this situation. It all depended on this grumpy man's skills. She hated having to depend on others.[break][break]

She turned obedient and quiet like a child scolded by their mother. Gently, she placed Poppy into the planter, her small, curled-up body easily fitting in. "Just do whatever you can to save her," Nabi sighed, eyes still on Poppy.[break][break]

The Parks were trained to let go of their emotions. They needed to be cutthroat, ruthless. Attachements were nothing but burdens to the Park clan.[break][break]

Nabi had always been different. She wasn't like them. But still, she refused to cry. Her face hardened, just in case. Just in case she lost someone precious.

Nabi nodded in response to Shalin's words to show she understood her. Her eyes gleamed over the details of the Sygna Suit, picking out the parts that closely resembled pokemon. Nabi's own choice of clothing was simple and cute while also allowing her flexible movement.[break][break]

Reluctantly, Nabi reached forward with her own hand to make contact with Shalin. She was hesitant, as any properly trained ninja should be. "Captain," Nabi whistled. Was this someone Nabi needed to be wary of? "Well, Captain, you must be a pretty decent trainer if you have this fancy suit." She retracted her hand, deeming the shake had been long enough. "I'm just Nabi. No special titles for me." She raised her hands, palms up and empty.[break][break]

Actually, back home, when she was on-duty and needed to protect her identity, Nabi bore the name of Birdwing, attributed to her characteristically green eyes and affinity with butterflies.[break][break]

Unknown to Nabi, one of her pokeballs had fallen loose after her brief fight with the venipede. A wild applin, too curious for its own good, had taken a tumble from a nearby tree during Prince's onslaught of air cutters. It nudged the empty ball and was immediately sucked in.
