Was it seriously drawing shapes with its tongue? Erin couldn't tell exactly what transpired between Bucky and his pokémon, but the movements she could see made for a rather concerning scene. She needs to step in.

"What's your pokémon doing?" She was pretty close to literally calling it a thing. Thankfully, she caught the word at the very tip of her tongue and reformulated it. "That... Did it see a fish?"

The possibility of finding the culprit and returning it to justice, she was already betting on. The possibility of also returning the magikarp? It seemed like wishful thinking, but if the lickitung had indeed seen one, their chances increased to almost favorable.

"Mars found some tracks that seem to lead upstairs," she answers for her pokémon. "That's the path I took to come to this pond in the first place and I saw nothing off on my way, so chances are a janitor already cleaned the rest of them off. Could be a start, though."

They could try to reconstruct potential routes the thief could have taken a-la-Sherlock, but right now Erin is, perhaps inadvisedly, more interested in the fish drawing.

Who said an educated, well-traveled young lady turned terrorist couldn't have a day off?

Probably only herself. Though she had no missions assigned for the rest of the week, her latest one had left her wondering what the team's next big move would be. Warfare and petty vandalism could be fine and all, but Erin is a results-aimed type of person, and at the moment things are too nebulous for her taste.

Enough of that.

Today, Erin's targeted place for respite is a cave said to be of historical importance for the region, Meteor Falls. Currently, the place doesn't look much like it served as home for any ancient populations, but the waterfalls inside are quite a pretty view. Admiring a pretty landscape never failed to put her in perspective and help her ease her frustrations.

She's sitting close to the entrance—just across the bridge—when she hears the footsteps of another visitor. "Hello," she offers, though her eyes are still fixed on the sight of the bigger waterfall, in a surprisingly unconcerned tone for someone starting a conversation.

She's not happy, but she also doesn't feel like bothering to correct him. "So do you." Erin doesn't have to look at him to know it's fake. They had more important things to do than engage in petty talk, however, like for example rob a jewelry store, so she goes straight to the point.

While waiting, she'd been replaying her plan in her mind, so that when her partner arrived, she could go over it as quickly and hassle-free as possible. Her hand leaves the smooth surface of the necklace, and she uses it to point towards one of the surveillance cameras below.

"You've noticed them. Fourteen cameras on the first floor; five more facing down from the second. This is the only floor that doesn't have cameras on it. I'm guessing the old mayor liked sitting back and watching his creation from up here." She shrugs at this last part. It's an educated guess, but not one she'd care too much to confirm.

"Now, I have my porygon stationed and ready to hack into the surveillance system with pre-recorded footage." Sure enough, her trustworthy pokémon is waiting inside the phone of the security guard on duty. "We'll have ten, maybe fifteen minutes until our cover is blown. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is our escape. Maybe if we had a decoy, or a method of flight... I'm open to ideas."

She was here to taste wine. Having just settled in literally that day in her new apartment, a night of wine tasting seemed only appropriate for the young woman. This would be her first time tasting original Hoenn drinks and, though her expectations weren't set as high as they were in Kalos, she'd heard good things about the locally mulled wine.

A man takes the seat next to her, asks for the strongest whiskey in store. Erin's gaze is elsewhere, but her ears are listening, waiting for a scene to break out.

To her disappointment, nothing happens. So far, the blond had just been silently drinking and—after a couple glasses—finally started getting something more substantial into his body. Boring. She raises her glass and gives it a couple twirls, thinking of how to best spend her remaining time at the bar.

Nothing stops her from poking fun at the wailing soul.

"He wasn't worth it," she says, taking a sip of her red wine. It's sweet, just as her prospects for entertainment.

She doesn't try to fight her grimace at the sight of Bucky's distasteful pokémon. Pun definitely intended. Despite the man's cheerful greeting to the lickitung being admittedly quite endearing, it doesn't lessen its ugliness nor the impact of having to witness such an ugly pokémon.

Erin doesn't do regret—the whole mentality is set up for conformism and failure. But if given the chance go back in time and do anything to prevent her from seeing the lickitung, she would.

Laughter. Not malicious, but a short, good-natured laugh erupts from her lips at the man's introduction. "How many have tried to call you Mr. Right, I wonder?" she offers with a playful grin of her own. "Bucky will do."

If there was one moment in which Erin could say the real estate agent had been useful, it was when she defined the timetable of events to pay attention to. The robbery had taken place overnight, which meant a number of things, but the most important implication was that the thief could not have made it out of the mall during that time.

Furthermore, if none of the hundreds or even thousands of customers visiting Mauville today had seen it flee, chances were their little thief is hiding somewhere within the mall.

"We're looking for damp spots in the grass, be it from dragging the magikarp around, or slurping them whole," she explains to Bucky, not hoping for much other than for his lickitung not to tamper the scene with fake trails.

The ball shakes twice. That's expected. After the two shakes, it goes still and the characteristic click of a successful capture seals the deal. That's also expected. What's not expected is the cool crunch of grass under the pressure of anything other than her feet.

Erin's reaction is quick. Her head snaps to the source of the sound, pink strands flipping and bumping against purple. She's not sure what she's expecting, considering she's literally just a few steps outside of Lilycove City, but one could never be too careful.

Oh. Just a man. No Rocket uniform or particularly suspicious outfit. Her gaze moves on quickly from the task of inspecting him to checking on the motorcycle she'd left waiting by the fence. The bike is still there, safe and sound. Relief washes over her face.

"I'm sorry, I thought you were..." She smiles, letting the silence fill in the blanks for her. Why lie when she could let the man's imagination be the one coming up with her cover? A short pause. "Are you here to catch pokémon? Mars and I wouldn't mind the company, if so."

Upon hearing his name, a gengar appears from behind her, or perhaps beneath her. With her mind focused on the newcomer, she wouldn't have noticed if her gengar decided to hide in her shadow in an attempt to give the man a scare.

Erin doesn't know who she's supposed to be looking for. All she was given was a cryptic 'you'll know' before being ushered out of the meeting. Well, Erin had been looking around and she's very certain she still doesn't know.

She has no patience for wild goose chases, but she can't exactly walk out of this, so she perseveres. Erin needs as much information on New Mauville as she can get for her next mission.

Slateport's Night Market is bustling with life, which is not too surprising considering it was one of the areas least affected by the invasion. In this sea of nameless faces, identities blur into a single cry for chaos.

And suddenly...

A skull. It's just another hue in the blurred image that is the city at first. Pupils focus, and the white speckle takes shape. Hidden by a black hood and pair of glasses, the mask replaces the artlessness of the setting sun with a thousand questions.

"Getting ready for Halloween, are we?"

She may not know the person behind the mask but she's pretty sure this is the who.

In Hoenn it's summer all year round. This is true especially in Slateport Beach, where even the aftermath of terrorism is outshone by the sun, brilliant as ever, warming up the sand beneath her feet.

Looking at the beach now, Erin wouldn't have guessed an invasion took place only months ago. It's a relaxing sight. Almost peaceful, not counting the occasional brawl breaking out less than a mile away. The soundtrack to every good sunbathing session.

She stops far away enough from the city that she could no longer see any asphalt. The only concrete visible is shaped in a few tall buildings lucky not to crumble down during the fight.

Erin may not have been part of the activities herself, having joined the team only days ago, but she's heard enough from the Rocket branch still stationed in Kanto post-operation to know what to expect and what not to.

Her gengar places a chair by her side; she, a towel for him to rest on. The parasol the gengar had been carrying in his other hand is planted between the two.

Erin closes her eyes. "Lovely weather, isn't it?"

The words are directed at a second person in their vicinity. Intentions unclear and a face she can't say for sure she recognizes, but there were only a handful of reasons why someone could be found in Slateport at this time.

Perhaps sensing his trainer's disappointment, Mars takes his time searching for a pokémon he knows his trainer will like. He aims for something pretty like a froslass or a chandelure or a gardevoir, but is only able to find a kirlia. He supposes it's better than nothing.

He returns with a somersault sure to turn more than a head around. Unfortunately, there's only his trainer to impress, though in truth she's the only one he wants to impress either way.

Mars is considerably worse than a kirlia at dancing, and it shows. He twirls on the kirlia's feet clumsily but somehow manages to keep himself standing. She laughs at the gengar's antics.

"Alright, Mars." The young woman finally leaves her position by her motorbike to inspect the gengar's haul. "We'll take this one, and then we're giving you some much needed dancing lessons."

The kirlia feels a sudden chill and blinks in confusion as Mars exits her body. Before she has time to regain her composure, she takes the full force of the gengar's

shadow ball

. Still, she doesn't fall.

"We're not done yet.
Confuse ray
." It's Erin's first direct order that day, and the gengar follows it without delay. He approaches the kirlia to make sure she can't avoid his gaze when his eyes glow a bright red.

From that moment on, the kirlia would see red everywhere she looked. After a moment of slow but erratic kicks, she tumbles down. The gengar cackles.

"What are you laughing at? That's exactly what you looked like."

Erin tosses a pokéball.

All that considered, and the mischievous gengar thought she'd even consider looking at this?

"It's settled, then." Erin offers the real estate agent a cynical curtsey before she turns on her heels to get started. She's certain the act of picking just anyone from the crowd to help with this oh-so-dangerous task has her boiling from contempt and disapproval, which was the exact reaction she was aiming for.

There's a small smile on her face as she scans the greenery surrounding the pond. She isn't really bothered by how efficient or not the man turns out to be, either. Erin could be efficient enough for the two.

As if to silently demonstrate this point, the young woman has a pokéball out and the gengar residing inside called in the blink of an eye. "We're counting on you, Mars."

The gengar jumps ahead to inspect the crime scene, though not before directing an eerie cackle at the stranger. A greeting or a farewell? Only the gengar himself knew.

Mars does have a point, she supposes.

"Erin Caulfield," she offers, unprompted. Quick to take the lead. "Do you have a name, or should I call you Mr. Righteous?" This is no Rocket-issued mission and thus does not merit codenames, but she'd be damned if she didn't take this change to make a quip at the man's words.
