The next Pokémon she encountered she almost tripped over the poor thing. An Omanyte was hiding in the sand and this encounter made Eva quite happy. Not only was it a fossil Pokémon but one that was typically associated with Kanto, this was a great find. And the little guy was quite entertaining, doing silly things to try and get the scientist’s attention and make her laugh.

The silly Omanyte was fun to spend some time with but she had to keep moving on and seeing what was next. Eva waved goodbye to the Pokémon before leaving, on to the next one.

”Pandora will do,” An alias that she had been using many years and one she’s been using more since she joined Rocket. A singles battle was fine with her, she wasn’t the type to get particularly picky about her battles.

As long as they were fun somehow and didn’t bore her she’d do a 6v6 rotation battle while blind folded…that actually didn’t sound bad, to watch at least, actually participating in one sounds like a shit show. Now all she had to do was decided which of her lovelies she was going to be using in this cage battle.

The choice was pretty easy for her to make, Soleil had a good chance of setting the entire place on fire and that probably wasn’t good for business. Eva pulled out the capsule to her Gardevoir as Priam released his Pokémon, a Dragonair. An interesting choice, but one that made Eva smile ever so faintly.

”That’s a pretty Dragonair you have there.” She spoke, releasing her Gardevoir shortly after. Another Pokémon that seemed out of place for this environment but the intense aura that was emanating from the Gardevoir would easily suggest that she was all business and ready to go.

“Alright Artemis, let’s put on a good show for everyone, make it flashy.” The woman called out to her Pokémon who at first didn’t seem keen on the idea of entertaining what the Pokémon deemed to be a group of degenerates but Artemis would do what her trainer wanted.

”So who goes first blue? Me? You? Flip a coin? Rock, paper, scissors?” Regardless the woman felt a bit bad, this was a horrible matchup for the man.

The Litleo Eva stumbled upon was adorable but the fact that it was alone raised all sorts of red flags. A little cub like this shouldn’t be too far away from its mother and that meant getting any closer to it was asking for a shit storm.

This is why Eva admired from a distance and even when the cub noticed her and was curious enough to start to approach her, the woman stepped back to avoid getting any closer. And it was wise that she did so because momma showed up not too long after and scooped the cub up by the scruff of its neck and wandered off.

It was a shame though, Litleos were dangerously adorable.

The wildlife of Hoenn was interesting; it was what drew Eva out of her lab and out here to Route 111. She was looking forward to the prospect of finding something out here that she wouldn’t expect. More often than not whenever she went hunting for what lived out in the Hoenn wilds there was always something new.

A pair of goggles rested on her forehead, a safety precaution for just in case she decided to go through the desert area of this route. Soleil stood with her, out of all her Pokémon the Volcarona would be best in this sort of environment.

”Hopefully trekking through this heat will be worth it.”

Evelyn’s enthusiasm was cute, it even made Eva smile. Most people got bored whenever topics like this were brought up so finding someone who genuinely appeared to want to learn more about the world around her was nice. She watched the Silph handle the Rhyperior in a similar way to how she dealt with the Cryogonal from earlier.

The method she was using to capture Pokémon definitely seemed way easier than the way most people did it. You just get them in a trance and throw your pokeball at it. Simple, effective and Eva loved it, anything to make things faster and easier.

Eva watched curiously as Evelyn spoke and hummed to the capsule that held the Rhyperior in. She hadn’t seen anyone do this sort of a thing before so of course, she was curious. Eva would then blink at Evelyn’s request and the Silph's follow up before smiling and responding.

”Sure I’ll teach you whatever you want to know.” The woman nodded, though there would be a catch to it. ”As long as you’re willing to help me out when I need an assistant then we got a deal.” Of course Eva would be willing to teach with no strings attached but she could use someone reliable to help her out when she needed it.

”Nothing too crazy or anything of the like. Just if I need someone to test out a new device I’ve been working on or help me while doing field research, stuff like that.” In the corner of her eye she caught a Pokémon watching them, a Smoochum to be exact.

”Like for example If that Smoochum was up to no good I’d leave it up to you to deal with it. You have such a gentle way of handling Pokémon that it’d be better you than me.” She grinned, ignoring the other mon that appeared. This really wasn't different from what the girl was already doing.

”Anyone ever tell you that you’re too kind?” If anyone else had been assigned to this mission the last thing they would be thinking about is the wellbeing of those they were sent to deal with. This girl continued to show how much of anomaly she was within the organization.

Especially given Rocket’s old modus operandi, the organization would be keen on just killing up the mess afterward than trying to keep the peace. With that in mind Eva would leave the talking up to the Silph, she had a much easier time dealing with people than Eva did, at least when it came to doing things in a nice and gentle way.

”I hope things go your way. Shit going south just means more work for me to deal with.” Eva sighed, not wanting to deal with any crap after this was done and over with. ”Apparently where they’re all held up isn’t too far from where we’re at.” She pointed down the road they were currently standing on.

”We go down this street and make a right. Down that street will come across their hideout. They’re held up in what was once a bar. The place looks run down but they’re in there.” Eva explained, shrugging at the end of her words to suggest she’s not sure why they decided to pick there, or rather she didn’t care.

”Alright, let’s get this over with.” The professor then started moving toward their destination.

Magcargos were always fun Pokémon to mess around with, their own natural body heat being so high that if one wasn’t careful they could end up setting aflame just by being near the damn thing. This of course knowing this meant that being an asshole when one was already was pretty simple.

But that came with the condition that if one of these things just so happen to random get close to you there was a good chance your ass was going to melt or whatever the Magcargo was passing was going to set on fire. Poor things were unaware that they did this most of the time.

Just for shits and giggles Eva threw a stick and the Magcargo and watched as said stick burst into flames as it almost hit the Pokémon’s body.

”Hehehe, well that was funny.” The woman was more than pleased with her silly tactics. But it was time to get back and with Artemis being summoned and using Teleport that was a simple task.

”Nice catch.” She congratulated the Silph on the way she handled the Cryoganal. Not many people would say that a Pokémon like Cryogonal has any real beauty too it or having something special they want to pull out. Well considering who they were talking about this wasn’t that much of a surprise given that the woman wasn’t as shallow as many others were.

The dark-haired professor was a bit surprised that Evelyn would ask about something she had brought up earlier. ”Oh that?” Eva began to speak, motioning toward the shallow bit of water nearby where they were standing.

”In an attempt to avoid the water that will fill the cave during the high tide, Pokémon will go deeper into the cave due to there being more elevation the further you go so they can avoid the water.” Eva explained, noticing more Pokémon that showed up.

”And look at this!” She approached one of them without much of a care to her own safety. ”A Rypherior! Now what are you doing here big boy?!” And as soon as that distracted her, she spotted the Swinub as well. ”Oh and what a cutie you are too!” Eva would then turn to Evelyn.

”What about these two? Either of these interests you?” The whole interaction was very confusing for the two wild Pokémon.

This job wasn’t going to be pretty and honestly Eva wasn’t the type who was the first to throw her hand up when volunteers were being called on. This was definitely the sort of job that she dropped onto someone else. It wasn’t as if she wasn’t capable of doing it or had some aversion toward violence she just had better things to be doing with her time.

Her arm was twisted when the situation got worse and it turns out that she had some connection to this whole debacle. It was a real shitty excuse to get her out here.

Eva assumed it was a case of someone else not wanting to do this so it was dropped on her somehow. What exactly was the job? It was simple, some idiots were running around causing a shit storm and while they were at it they were using Rocket’s name. Why were they doing it?

No idea and she didn’t really care all she knew was that it was her job to shut them up. It’d be a pain in the ass if this sort of shit got way out of control and whatever nonsense they were up to somehow came back on them.

”How did they manage to drag you into this?” She’d ask the other assigned to this job. Eva wouldn’t expect to see the red-haired woman on such a job, didn’t seem like her vibe but who knows, this woman was full of surprises.

”Either way let’s make this quick, got other shit I want to do today and while knock around some idiots will be fun-“ her words paused as she stretched. ”Don’t want to waste too much time.” She let out a bit of a groan as she finished stretching, ready to get this shit rolling.

Evelyn’s appearance was a welcome surprise; there were few people in rocket that Eva enjoyed their company as much as her. ”Oh, hey!” Eva waved to the woman. ”Wouldn’t have expected to see you here.” What were the odds?

”I’m just out here looking to see if I can find a Pokémon to add to my team.” Eva would motion to the Gardevoir next to her. ”Need to give my lovelies some extra helping hands. They’ve been pulling all the weight.” She was referring to the Gardevoir and her Volcarona as well, her two longest lasting partners.

”What about yourself? What brings you out-“ She couldn’t finish her words as they were attacked by a Scyther flying above. Artemis went to attack but Eva stopped the Gardevoir, Soleil’s capsule in her hand. ”Let’s let her take care of it.” She would then let out the Volcarona.

”Alright let’s take care of this quickly. I want this one.” Soleil nodded, understanding her master’s orders. They Scyther circled one last time before coming down, aiming for Songbird. Soleil got in the mantis’ path and unleashed a Heat Wave attack, the attack was enough to shoot the bug down.

Eva then took out an empty capsule, ready to throw it at the downed mantis. ”What a lovely one you are.” She said as she threw the empty capsule in an attempt to capture the Pokémon. ”This is what I came out here for.” Eva smiled as she turned to Evelyn.

”Of course, of course!” Eva smiled. If anyone was good at keeping things to themselves and making sure a secret stayed a well a secret, it was Eva. These Silph types were definitely an interesting bunch. With them around there was rarely a dull moment in Hoenn, which it was up in the air as to whether or not that was a good or a bad thing and there were plenty of people who would say either or on that one.

Finally some progress….wait there was progress? Now Eva was definitely surprised but it was a welcome one. ”Well I’ll be damned.” Was she going to be proven wrong?

And any thought of that was immediately dashed when she finally saw what the grunts had found. ”These aren’t mega stones you MOOK!” She violently waved the stones that she held in the grunts face.

”These are just your run of the mil evolutionary stones! Thunder, Fire, Grass stones! You ever heard of these before?!” She grabbed the grunt by his collar and started shaking him.

After she got that out of her system she let the man go and turned to Evelyn as the man dropped to the ground. ”While they’re no mega stones they do have their uses, you want one?” She’d give the woman the one she wanted.

”Let’s wrap up for the day, alright? We’ve been here for long enough.” Once the equipment was gathered up and everyone was ready they’d be free to go home.

That was a question that Eva honestly hadn’t been asked in a while. A lot of people were interested in the root of why she decided to get into this line of work but not many asked her this. ”I suppose I did.” She couldn’t think of a time in her life where she didn’t have this curiosity, this adoration for the magical creatures.

”I wouldn’t be standing here today if it wasn’t for them. They simply wonderful creatures! what's not to love?” Her two main Pokémon had been by her side since she was a child and have saved her on multiple occasions throughout the woman’s life.

”If it doesn’t in some way I’m not doing my job right.” Eva laughed, her attention quickly being grabbed by nearby Pokémon. ”Well look at this!” The woman took off without much warning, leaving Evelyn behind.

”A Geodude and Cryogonal?! Interesting! I wonder if the rock Pokémon will go deeper into the cave during the high tides. And I didn’t expect to see a Cryogonal here either.” As she wrote down some notes the scientist would turn to Evelyn. ”Either of these Pokémon catch your fancy?” Eva wasn’t interested in catching them but Songbird might.

Eva was completely caught off guard by all of this and it showed in her face. First she wanted to question the woman’s trust in her but when she went further on and explained herself Eva remained quiet and just listened.

The professor knew that this woman was an oddity among rocket but she wasn’t sure how much until now. Eva wasn’t even sure how to respond at first, which her being at a loss for words, was definitely rare and there were people who would pay to learn how to do such a thing. This was all really new.

The woman laughed, not at what Songbird said or the idol at all, at least not in a way that meant disrespect. ”Man I really do admire the set of balls on you!” The woman was smiling from ear to ear. ”Most people would be scared shitless saying something like that so cavalier with this many rockets around. I knew I liked you for a reason!” But now Eva got a bit more serious.

”But you’ve got some big dreams there.” Her face now adopted a more serious look, eyes meeting the Silph. But there was still kindness in those eyes.

”I don’t even know if such a thing is possible! With Rocket’s history even if you managed to get them to come along on your plan convincing the league to not eviscerate them on the spot? I don’t know how you could manage that.” Sounded like a fool’s errand. ”But I’m sure you’ve already thought of all of that.” For a moment there the woman entered a deep thought before continuing her words.

”Still that’s a tall order, revolutionary even. Hmm maybe with your connections and sense you clearly don't lack the confidence to do something like this, maybe you’ll be able to pull it off.” She rubbed her chin at the thought.

”With all that said, I’ll be keeping my eye on you! I’m expecting great things coming from you now! So don’t disappoint me, you hear?! And if you need help with something don’t be afraid to ask. I’m curious to see how this goal of yours plays out.”
