Adrian hadn't grown bored, far from it, but it was difficult to tell the time. He'd avoided bringing his phone, as it wasn't waterproof, and he was regretting that now. By the placement of the sun, it was probably... Late afternoon?[break][break]

He couldn't be too sure, especially given Hoenn's instability.[break][break]

Besides, he had cast just about every lecherous stare he could at Rowan, and he was beginning to crave the comforts of being on land. Anymore time out here and the heat would get to his head and give him heatstroke.[break][break]

He takes another shot at the next wave, not wanting to miss out on a single opportunity. As he and his Mantine are pulled into the swelling water wall, he could see perhaps the lightning in the distance, where the sky was darkest.[break][break]

This would be the last wave of the day for him.[break][break]

The sensation of air whipping across his face and tousling his hair is second only to the butterflies in his stomach as they begin their free fall, executing several corkscrews before touching down...[break][break]

And that meant their little Splashfest would, too. He's spending less and less time here, and devoting more time to preparation. The coming months promise to be challenging, and many would benefit from some training. It makes him wish there was something they could do to help trainers, not just their pokemon.[break][break]

But for now, it's just him and the great ocean blue.[break][break]

...And the trash littering the ocean floor, same as ever.[break][break]

He'd gotten so close the day before, but someone snatched it before his very eyes. Just a few moments earlier, and it would've been his, and Rowan's by proxy. But instead he was left sifting through the deep ocean bed once more, hoping to find that pearl gold.[break][break]

If nothing else, it helped him grow comfortable with the exploration of deep, open water. He'd still send out Furor or another pokemon to scout for danger before it got anywhere near him, but it was the sort of phobic response to the ocean in general that he was beginning to grow a tolerance for. All of that would be eradicated with one bad incident, though.[break][break]

Hopefully that doesn't happen.[break][break]

Feeling the stinging scent of brine tugging at his nose, he realizes they're already filling the swell just before the wave, rising up into the tidal wall of water and making quick their ascent...[break][break]

He returned a sly smile, his eyes flitting from theirs, inspecting the boat's hull for signs of fish hiding in their shadow. He certainly wasn't casting wry looks at their attempt at a distraction, or taking advantage of it even.[break][break]

That's when his line nearly yanked away his rod.[break][break]

Grasping at the rod after nearly fumbling it, Adrian pulls back after stopping the mad spinning of the reel, turning the handle backwards to bring the line back. He gives sharp tugs, jerking it to the left or the right as the fish seems to deviate, until eventually he brings it on board.[break][break]

Most are not allowed to go surfing, except for adults. It's almost unfair, considering the competition, but until there was thunder or lightning, the life guards wouldn't close the beach.[break][break]

And so he took to the waves with gusto.[break][break]

Astride his Mantine, Adrian is lifted up into the cresting wave he's swam into, gripping tight to the harness as they are upended from the water.[break][break]

He could literally find anything but, though now that he considered it; perhaps the professionals had already taken most for themselves, after all, why shouldn't they? Still, he kept his chin up metaphorically speaking as he nosedived through the coastal waters in search of Clamperl, plastic waste, and so on.[break][break]

The water is cool around him despite his wet suit, and these depths are dark despite the overwhelming sunlight filtering from above. He forgets himself in the moment, tunneling on his task and ignoring most everything else.[break][break]

And eventually, he finds his prize.[break][break]

Adrian was still undecided ever since they were told they could only keep one catch, but he was leaning towards a Gyarados or a Barraskewda, maybe something for Rowan if not himself. Something to compensate for the lack of Clamperl he'd found for them while diving.[break][break]

Adrian rolls his tongue against his cheek while stealing glances, trying not to be distracted by such a petty trick, but falling into it helplessly. At a key moment he tears his eyes away from his line, following Rowan's movements with dilated eyes when his line gets a sharp tug before they strip the bait from his hook.[break][break]

Dammit.[break][break]

Reeling up his hook, Adrian sets his bait again, casting it far off into the distance and waiting for on one of the plenty of fish in the sea to come take a nibble.[break][break]
