After making the necessary arrangements for a TRADITIONAL 2v2 DOUBLES challenge, he prepares for the format after checking into the building. A rotomi over in the corner serves as a kiosk to rummage through one's Personal storage, where he fishes out ROVER's pokeball.[break][break]

HOWITZER has only recently been reintroduced to a pokeball, a CHERISH BALL specifically ordered for the canine upon their return. It hasn't been until now that' he's deigned to use it, though. Rolling the sphere over in his hand, he observes the rest of the building; trainers and pokemon are bulking up, conducting rigorous exercise.[break][break]

It's been too long since he's taken on the League's Gym challenge. He's practically brimming with anticipation, eager to get back in the game. Taking off his jacket, Adrian bundles it and tucks it under an arm while waiting to meet the Gym Leader. Or would he have to fight a gym trainer first...? No two gym challenges were quite the same.

Howitzer goes bounding after something hiding in the shrubs, and when Adrian paces over to inspect it, he uncovers an Anorith hiding beneath the greenery. How did you even get all the way out here? Were they indigenous?[break][break]

Adrian and Howitzer seemed to have passed whatever test it was the Shaymin put them through, the shrubby critters backing off at the sight of Howitzer's boundless ferocity. But just as quickly she returned to her docile, loving self, brushing up against Adrian's legs after settling matters.[break][break]

All of the Shaymin lowered their heads in acknowledgement of the one who had tended to their grove, before erecting a path upon which they could safely make their descent. And to see them on their way, the Shaymin that had battled them acted escort, and the ground beneath them did not buckle or dissipate soon enough as to make them rush needlessly. The Hoenn beneath them was a beauty...[break][break]

A lush canvas of greenery surrounded by cerulean seas; an emerald jewel and a font of life.

When they reached the end of the line, the Shaymin did not make the return voyage. Adrian turned to it and gave his thanks, expecting to wave it off, but instead it stood there. Watching and waiting... Following his every step closely.[break][break]

Adrian is roaming the verdant expanse of Route 117 with Howitzer, hoping to enjoy the pleasant weather and sweet scents wither her on a little jaunt. Doubtlessly they might run into more trainers planting their gracidea seeds, and maybe even encounter another Shaymin or two.[break][break]

Seeing that their offensive options were limited, Adrian saw to it became a battle of attrition. Whereas Shaymin could not deal a meaningful blow, neither could Howitzer, and so was their stalemate. But as the Shaymin stole their vitality, Howitzer was not without a means to replenish the lost power. The sun was its very own font of energy.[break][break]

"Bask up those rays; don't let 'em wear you down!" Her secret weapon as that of the MORNING SUN, allowing her to replenish lost stores of stamina and vitality by simply soaking up the warmth of starlight. In other circumstances the ability could extend to others, but as of now they had no need. They were simply stalling for time enough to make a breakthrough; to turn the tables on their hosts of the hedge.[break][break]

Shaymin did not make it easy. It too absorbed the sun's warmth, forming an ENERGY BALL with which to strike the stationary target as Howitzer STRUGGLED against her bindings, refusing to be captive to them any longer.[break][break]

With a sudden burst of might that seemed almost surreal, Howitzer broke her bonds before bounding for the bewildered Shaymin with a look of absolute ZEAL...[break][break]

A tangle of vines and sapping seeds careens through the air, thrown like a net over Howitzer where she stood; LEECH SEED undermined their offense while boosting the Shaymin's defense. Their audience of hedgehogs hoot and yip in approval, cheering on their cohort while Adrian curses the circumstances he finds himself in. What should they do about the devil's snare all around her?[break][break]

"Shake 'em loose!" But it was no good, she could not break free, and what's more is it hampered her movement. But still, he would rather not raze their precious field to the ground, as it would only ruin the gratitude they reserved for him. He would not command her to set this fabled grove ablaze, if only to satisfy his pride and ego. The other Shaymin began encroaching on Howie, perhaps falsely sensing weakness. If only he were not so merciful...[break][break]

"Howie, show 'em your fangs!" At once she SNARLED, and he felt his gut sink; a primordial beast's guttural roar a source of utmost fear that had been hardwired in human DNA since they first shared the earth with these magical creatures. Even the most resolute of Shaymin that stood up to her had been cowed by the dominance display, fearing her immediate reprisal. But would that last?[break][break]

It was a beautiful thing to see. Howitzer trotted around the aromatic flowers while the Shaymin praised the new addition, all the while their de facto representative eyed Adrian intently. For a moment he's caught up in the revelry, when the pokemon makes its position clear. A battle. A battle to determine whether he was worthy to tend their grove. A battle to determine he wasn't another reckless hotshot of a trainer unfit to share in their floral delights...[break][break]

"So that's how it is...? Alright; Howitzer, let's go!"[break][break]

It would be their first battle together since they came through the rift. She seemed to perk up at his rallying call, forgetting herself for a moment as she padded over to him before taking up position. Without warning, the Shaymin loosed a powerful GRASS-TYPE attack that he couldn't immediately recognize by sight alone. "Blitz 'em, Howie!"[break][break]

Her forward momentum carried into a devastating attack, but as she whipped around the fields, the Shaymin all around them gasped as the flowers were tugged with the violent gusts of wind from her movements.[break][break]

"Mind the flowers!" It wouldn't do to trample what they'd only just planted; they needed to cultivate this trust. Perhaps he shouldn't use fire, either... That held him back.[break][break]

Adrian would have liked to plan an appointment with the man, figure out his name, or something of the sort... But they ignored him, insisting on feigning ignorance. Not only that, but he remembers them being more... polite when they'd first met. That left him with at least one red flag, and two if he was worth his salt.[break][break]

Mars had raised suspicions around this individual and others, and so Adrian was naturally suspicious of them too.[break][break]

If it was not the same person as before, he would know.[break][break]

But then, distinguishing them required some preternatural nuances that Yveltal would need provide. And what's more, who was to say when the suspicious behavior had started...[break][break]

...And whether he'd been a phony from the beginning?[break][break]

In short, his attempts to identify them would likely be in vain. But he would not fault himself for trying, in any event.[break][break]

The Megalopolans had found a way to walk among them undetected, crossing across space and time. The Unown assassins had obviously mastered the trickier art of the two; who's to say they hadn't mastered the art of disguise? The similarities were intriguing, if nothing else. More and more, it convinced him of the possibilities of such impostors running amok... But why would they be here?[break][break]

Perhaps the answer was all around them, plain as writing.[break][break]

"You've been nursing that wound for awhile, eh?"[break][break]

He vaguely recalls cooking something up for them, to help with some sort of condition or otherwise. Though they might not be related, it feels good to take a jab at them, especially when they refuse to acknowledge him.[break][break]

Adrian grabs for the RING TARGET and places the RAWST BERRY back upon the serving cart, to be covered by another cloche and carted away. After that he heads back towards the portcullis leading into the next room, following the gang as they whispered words of warning amongst themselves.

Looks like today was a bust... Adrian had resigned to finding nothing of use, doubling back towards the exit when he was blockaded off by a territorial Samurott. Unluckily for it, he would not be deterred so easily, and after weakening it in a battle against his Greninja he struck it with a pokeball thrown full throttle.[break][break]

That ought to teach it some manners, he considered while inspecting the pokeball's movements, which were abruptly quelled before a muffled 'pong!' reverberated throughout the schism.

I already have a Carracosta, too... But it was a turtle, and Carracosta was extremely similar to Drednaw in a number of ways. He decided to follow after the Carracosta, giving it a wide berth while seeing where it might lead him through the cavern. Perhaps an alternate way out?[break][break]

Or to its brood, in which case, he'd rely on Greninja's combat prowess to see him through safely.
