[attr="class","adrianwtw"]Most of the little Kangaskhans cling to their mommy every waking second, making it easy to take a shot at the larger, adult Kangaskhan while they're preoccupied tending to the little ones. But they keep an ear out for intruders, forcing trainers like Adrian to move up slowly and stay downwind.[break][break]

It's a steady process. Boring, tedious, but perhaps worth it.[break][break]

Preferrable to startling them all at once to try and battle one and wear it down; that'd just be inviting a stampede. Even with Howitzer newly returned to his side, he's not sure he wants to tangle with that. So he continues creeping up through the underbrush, sure to keep still when a Kangaskhan gazes in his general direction.[break][break]

But eventually he would be close enough, hurtling a pokeball towards one of the closest specimens, ducking back into the grass before they were any the wiser.[break][break]

It's something of an acquired taste, and poorly suited to Hoenn's tropical clime. He notes the Swampert making its departure, and wonders where the challenge will be taking place. "I am. It's nice to be here; Been awhile since I've challenged a gym." Beau needn't know his reasons why, but there was plenty of sentimentality behind it. Whether he felt the need to prove himself anymore, well... Perhaps there were those who would balk at him for not having more badges, the way he presented himself.[break][break]

But that was just his natural moxie. Some call it arrogance.[break][break]

The faint smile adorning his features is replaced by a pinched brow and stern eyes. "So, we're to fight out on the rocks? Guess it'd be dangerous to fight inside."[break][break]

Adrian can't help but wonder how disadvantageous the arena may prove, though he is confident they will find their way. Howitzer had never let him down in the past...[break][break]

It would be up to Adrian to make good on his promises and keep from letting her down again. "Please, lead the way."

[attr="class","adrianwtw"]He's pushing against Howitzer, trying to avoid being drenched by her sopping wet fur when he notices Surskit skittering along the water from upstream. One by one they file in, and then disperse, save for one that remains behind. It hasn't noticed Adrian and Howitzer yet, so he's quick to settle Howie down and bring her up to speed.[break][break]

"Hey girl, you feel up to a quick battle?" With his thumb he gestured over towards the oblivious Surskit, and Howitzer seemed to accept the invitation, lowering herself into a prone position before sneaking up on it. But she could not hope to prowl over the water as the Surskit might.[break][break]

"Go, Howie!" Startling the Surskit and making it momentarily unresponsive, Howitzer blitzed past the water with extreme speed, striking the pokemon and shoving it from out of the sanctuary of the stream.[break][break]

Sadly, Surskit wasn't prepared to put up much of a fight against Howitzer, and offered a poor challenge for her and Adrian. So without much fuss, he managed to snag it after throwing a few pokeballs—actually getting one to connect had proven more difficult, given its size. "Nice one."[break][break]

Howitzer proceeded to shake the water loose from her fur, dousing Adrian, much to his chagrin.

"I guess introductions ended after challenge five," Adrian willfully pokes the bear, pointing out the elephant in the room. These last few challenges have been conducted in the cover of darkness, their moderators choosing to act in anonymity. Gavin is paranoid as per usual and the others begin harboring distrust. Mars even makes a pointed observation, though it's the concerted efforts to conceal their identities that has Adrian trying to figure them out in the first place. Eyelids shutter over amber irises, before peeling back, revealing what is beneath them...[break][break]

...Eyes like pallid moons against a placid night sky.[break][break]

Despite whether he should discover anything worthy of note, Adrian acts as is expected of him; releasing Riffraff from the pokeball on his waist, sure to avoid the poisonous spikes—or even absolve them into its own poisoned hide—it takes to the field. The vibrant electricity flowing from its body, and the incoming attack, are sure to provide a brief flash of light that may even help to illuminate the field.[break][break]

"Riff, use Thunder Shock."[break][break]

The soaked Dragalge would be hard pressed to withstand Riffraff's assault, so he trained his eyes on the mystery entity during the brief flash and subsequent thunderclap.[break][break]

By now Hoenn was aware of the various alternate species found within the distortions, and trainers were eagerly tracking them down to exploit the spatial breakdown. Adrian was no exception, readily spelunking any depths or rising to any height to discover one of these special pokemon for himself.[break][break]

One problem. Today, his luck had run dry.[break][break]

The mall is otherwise unchanged saved for the odd foreboding dome encasing much of it, but despite his best efforts, Adrian fails to uncover anything of note. Perhaps someone else has simply beaten him to the punch, or he really is just unlucky. Either way, his search mostly leads him nowhere, but he does notice something peculiar...[break][break]

Where arcs bounce through the air seemingly at random, Adrian begins to notice dust settling to the ground, as if something had been produced by the flash of energy. Seemingly at random small shards drop to the ground, and he picks up one of these, thinking it curious.

Another auspicious challenge with a stranger begging the special attention of his discerning eye; though he cannot expect to know who this is, Adrian grows weary of his continued ignorance, attempting to take a gander at their aura for future reference. If nothing else he would learn that they were, on the surface, an ordinary human being.[break][break]

...If a rather dodgy one at that.[break][break]

After they hear out the challenge, the team agrees on a method of approach, and Adrian swiftly seeks out a rotomi to retrieve one of his many Klefki. His own personal one was unsuited to the task, so he chose one from a batch of gacha he'd pulled some time ago, making sure to teach it the necessary moves before continuing on with the challenge. Tossing the pokemon out in the murk of the dimmed room, Adrian's familiar voice calls out to it:[break][break]

"Klefki, open up with MAGIC ROOM!" His voice carrying through the dark was more obvious than the apparent magicks at work, which were difficult to discern through the pitch. But he could be sure it had worked.

Adrian follows after the sound approach of his teammates, tossing out a Decidueye of his that hadn't seen a battle since the Hoenn Star Tournament. He supposed now might be a good time to stretch its wings. "Decidueye, use Dual Wingbeat. And mind the spikes..."[break][break]

Taking off in a flash, the owl struck with the the arrow-like protrusions jutting from the tips of its wings, striking the Togedemaru in close-quarters while avoiding the brambles and barbs of its hide. And then it returned.

Amazing how that word is enough to make a dog excitable.[break][break]

Deciding this time to avoid the doom and gloom of Mt. Pyre, they landed somewhere outside of Oldale Town, along a route split by a sizable stream. There it was that Howitzer decided to immerse herself in the freshwater's flow, and thus burdening Adrian with the overwhelming stench of wet dog. He'd have to remember to wash the jacket.

Adrian's Starmie teeters along the light fixtures high above, its many pointed digits peg-legging its way across metal railings deftly despite a slightly audible clank with every movement. Sometimes the lighting had to be dynamic, or come in from an angle. It was a shame the manmade solutions were unavailable. Starmie would have to make do.[break][break]

The ambient light of ILLUMINATE helped to bring the stage into view when the curtains peeled back, their leading star taking a step forward as a SPOTLIGHT flashed on and locked onto them as they crossed the breadth of the stage. When the scene closed, the light snapped shut, but the next scene quickly approached as the stage hands removed and erected props behind the closed curtains.[break][break]

Starmie clatters towards stage left to get in position all the while, that the immersion of their theater may continue.[break][break]

Adrian Malcolm'S CURRY ENTRY

thread summary: Characters Adrian Malcolm and Martín del Mar are stranded in a space-time distortion and must escape using only what they brought.
why is it important?: Although it seems unimportant and simplistic, the reason this thread is important is because it, like a handful of others are allowing Adrian to build something of a trust and camaraderie between himself and another Rocket member. This is something that he normally wouldn't do and is helping to bring him into the fold. It's also one of several threads where they've established similar interests in the phenomenon and other areas of study. They are building a working relationship.

Adrian has never been to Kalos himself, and has only heard of it by reputation, but the anistar sundial rings a bell. It was one of the greater wonders of their world, said to have come from space. His parents honeymooned there once, and that was how he'd come to learn of this curious landmark. Beyond that, he knew little and cared less.[break][break]

"Is that all?" What they were asking them to do was something of a specialty for anyone with a proclivity for dark-type moves and pokemon. He doubted any of them needed to be told, so he quickly filed over to the chamber's rotomi, withdrawing a Scizor for himself to use. If any had needed, Adrian also possessed a number of other specimens with the appropriate move for the occasion.[break][break]

Upon releasing the Scizor, he commands: "Use Knock Off."

Later on, while they crossed into the untamed threshold just beyond the route's most common path, they would come across a set of bushes rustling unnaturally, against the wind. Such was the force of this shaking brush that Adrian held Howitzer back, waiting to see what strangeness sprung out from it before letting her investigate.[break][break]

They soon discovered it to be a Pinsir, by the shape of the barbed pincers jutting from out of the bush as the creature stood to its full height. "Howie, go!" The pokemon reared on her, failing to leverage its greatest weapon against them before she struck with extreme speed.[break][break]

She bounced off the creature's carapace just as quickly, landing a few feet back before snarling. It waited for her to charge, which she eventually did, immersing himself in a roiling heat before lunging forward. Catching her despite the heat, the Pinsir threw her against a tree, though sustaining a serious burn for its efforts. Howie whined.[break][break]

"Yer alright, Howie; use BURN UP!" That was the last move required to bring the Pinsir to its knees, and even the forest around them blazed where the attack scorched the undergrowth. After she finished the fight, she retreated to Adrian, whom quickly produced a Poliwrath, Cloyster & Heliolisk to quell the burning brush before it could progress into a wildfire. That was a little too close...[break][break]

Throwing a pokeball, he hoped to claim the Pinsir for himself before rounding up the gang and heading home.
