The blue-furred Lycanroc growls in warning as Noel Parker reaches toward a pokeball, but Cillian only chuckles. The sound is low in his throat, more threat than humour.[break][break]

"This isn't a fight you want to pick, kid."[break][break]

His attention shifts back to the grunts, who eye his Lycanroc with trepidation. It's clear from their bunched muscles that they're one command away from an attack, and clearly those beneath him don't feel assured it won't be on them.[break][break]

He only gestures, however, down the street.[break][break]

"Back to your business."[break][break]

With that succinct dismissal, he rounds once more upon the interloper.[break][break]

"Your first time in the city, you said?" A sound of contempt rises in his throat. "Then I'll offer the mercy of a reminder: this is our city. It is under our grace that you're allowed to set foot upon its streets. If you are unwilling to obey our laws..." His Lycanroc lets out a rippling snarl, sensing the tension, "then I will see that you're removed."

Expecting a GAME OVER screen when he fails to pass the check, Cillian is pleased to find that the downside seems to be a hit to Shalin's attention, instead. That was fine. As long as he could still solve the puzzles.[break][break]

Something softens in Cillian's steel-sharp gaze when the Cradily is pressed into his hands. You remembered. It was an insignificant detail in comparison to the cataclysm's they'd faced together, but it was so undeniably wholesome all the same.[break][break]

Cil doesn't think anything of the little wave; Temp knew plenty of people.[break][break]

Nor does he think anything of his husband's passing comment; though incredibly jealous in nature, he has never resented Temp for his past. If anything, to learn of prior experiences only sparks his competitive side. A challenge to overcome. The wheel jerks as it begins to move, allowing the next empty cart to be filled.[break][break]

Setting the Cradily plush carefully on the seat, Cillian gets on his knees and smirks up at his lover.[break][break]

"Better keep that promise, love."[break][break]

He goes for the zipper with his teeth.

Though Cillian may have had his back turned when Tempest Quinn selected his prize, he is quick enough to notice the poor attempt to conceal his antics. Rather than demand answers, Cillian only arches a brow and smiles as he holds out the Lugia plushie.[break][break]

"I'll let you do the honours," he says sagely, as if it were some great right of pilgrimage. His eyes dance with mirth.[break][break]

They join the line for the Ferris wheel, and Cillian leans against the metal barrier of the queue as they wait for their turn to be seated. The wheel shines with many brilliant colours, doubtless attracting attention from afar, but those lights dim in anticipation of the upcoming fireworks show. Nothing could be allowed to take away from the night's final splendour.[break][break]

"I've never ridden a Ferris Wheel before," Cil confesses softly, as they slide into their seats.[break][break]

Yet another first that Tempest Quinn was blessed with.

Noel Parker arrives in the city with purpose. For Cillian, it is nothing more than any other day.[break][break]

Rather than skulking about on Rocket business, the underboss is merely taking his Lycanroc pack for a walk. Their restless energy, particularly that of their Midnight leader, did not fare well with being contained for too long.[break][break]

The blue-furred werewolf growls low in his throat as they near the building tension of an argument, and Cillian clicks his tongue to call the roaming pack to his side. They gather around him obediently, though the leader bares its teeth toward the annoyance.[break][break]

At the sight of him, the grunts react with equal parts fear and respect.[break][break]

He ignores them, turning his cold amber gaze upon the interloper. It's not a man he recognizes.[break][break]

"Is there a problem, citizen?"[break][break]

Warning threads tight through his tone. This is our city.

The vice grip of terror around his heart is lifted but for a moment in the wake of declan walsh's approval.[break][break]

When he comes back to himself, he is disgusted by how desperate he had felt to please. He was nothing more than a puppet to Rocket, as much as his mind was a puppet to this simulation. Yet still, he cannot help but to hope.[break][break]

Summer Atreides's voice draws him out of his thoughts, her voice suggesting she'd seen something else entirely.[break][break]

"I'm here," he assures her, voice deep and soothing in its steady cadence. "A trick of the simulation, I'm sure. We'll be out, soon."

And sure enough, they would.

Though he did not, in fact, have any boons of strength granted by his partnership with Lugia, Cillian did have a partnership with a different terrifying force of nature. He chuckles at Bee's request.[break][break]

"Ask Tempest Quinn. He's a personal trainer; he really puts me through the paces."[break][break]

It had been an agreement between them long before they were married, or indeed even before Cillian had looked at Temp as anything more than a friend. He was grateful that his husband didn't go easy on him even now.[break][break]

At the corresponding prize booth, an irate woman with a crying child in tow argues about their loss. Shaking his head, he tells the carnival worker, "She can have my pick." If it gets her kid to shut up. "Really. It's fine."[break][break]

To ensure there was no further argument, and also to get away from the wailing child, Cillian begins to aimlessly walk in another direction.

Swallowing any remarks on the irony of any Rocket proclaiming to seek truth, Cillian stands with Naomi Sato as they battle the black dragon. Much as he had before, he pictures Remiel Calcifet in place of the brother who fights at its side.[break][break]

Bringing him down sparks a brief, terrible glee.[break][break]

The DARK STONE is heavy in his hand, but Cillian's satisfaction is ill-matched for the grief of the one who entrusts it.[break][break]

Around them, the simulation begins to fade.

The intel provided by Alphonse Gambino proves of use when, on an otherwise average day in Hoenn, Cillian gets wind that the ambassador's bodyguard has left her unattended. His skin tingles as he processes the news.[break][break]

Excellent.[break][break]

Rustboro was boruta maher's stomping ground, and thus Cillian is careful to keep to the shadows as he slips through the ancient city in pursuit of his prize. Before entering the office, he releases his Dhelmise, who disappears into its PHANTOM FORCE.[break][break]

Cillian himself strolls straight into the office, not having bothered with disguise, and approaches the secretary with a viper's smile.[break][break]

"Hello." His own Galarian accent betrays him as a child of Circhester, but far more alarming would be the blond-haired, scarred visage of a man well-acquainted with wanted posters. His amber eyes gleam behind glasses. "I have business with your manager. I'd suggest cooperation."[break][break]

SHADOW MIASMA pools around him, further marking him for who he was.

He keeps any thoughts to himself as his watchful gaze drifts between his colleagues, listening to their opinions in turn.[break][break]

He nods to Zev Harcourt, then BARNABY FINCH.[break][break]

"Precisely my meaning, Beast Harcourt. Admin Bee. There will be no region to rule if we ignore the Triad's goals."[break][break]

On the subject of Necrozma, the underboss sours further.[break][break]

"This is far from a traditional partnership." He feels Lugia's PRESSURE as he speaks, a reminder of his own bond. "We don't even know where it is, let alone our Beast's control over it. I don't disagree that we should try to hunt it down," with an acknowledgment to Naomi Sato, "but we must be careful to measure our expectations. And, as Underboss Fiorelli states, it is unwise to place all our resources on something we do not yet understand."[break][break]

Elisabeth Fiorelli asks after the RKS, and Cillian's frown deepens to a scowl.[break][break]

"The RKS is steeped in Triad influence. The white-haired woman. The Pokegear. Arceus itself. If not their doing, then it could be the doing of a powerful ally in the conflicts to come. Perhaps it was Maldacena themselves."[break][break]

He quiets as he looks to fern delaney, as eager as Nomi to hear the Admin's input.

He is beginning to resent her, too, if only for her glee in the face of their hardships.[break][break]

Still, dutiful and somber as always, Cillian materializes into the simulation and glances around the now-familiar setting of the Ruins of Alph. His phone chimes a discordant melody, muffled from its presence in his pocket.[break][break]

That familiar draw to the Abyss calls him, but he holds his ground.[break][break]

"Have you been here before?"[break][break]

He doesn't look at Elisa, still gazing into the void.

In truth, he doesn't think Lugia will care enough to spare such thought toward an imperfect idol, but it's fun to laugh about. It's fun to laugh at all, the sound light in his throat.[break][break]

Their opponents could hardly hope to match two seasoned Rockets with Temp's skills as a personal trainer befitting them both, so a few hard tugs of the rope bring the other team to their knees.[break][break]

He cuts the line for the prizes with a brief burst of speed from his MIASMA, ensuring that they'll get their hands on the lopsided Lugia plushie before any of the children can take a shine to it. He's both surprised and delighted to find that there's a SHADOW variant. It sticks out like a sore thumb among a sea of white.[break][break]

Cillian's eyes gleam as he smirks. "Positive."

Shalin Nariya is quick to lament her inability to target both, but the battle-ready Rocket merely shakes his head.[break][break]

"Take the purple one, then. I'll focus the other."[break][break]

Turning to the Armarouge, he clicks his tongue to direct his Greninja. It lashes out with SHADOW PANIC, a dark aura much like Gavin's own spreading around the agile opponent. It aims to CONFUSE, and with it, to disrupt whatever coordinated pattern the two Pokémon were planning.
