Cillian watches the Finizen with detached interest, far more comforted by the distant PRESSURE emanating from below. Frank Caffey was not a man that the underboss perceived as a threat; his patron's lurking presence was on account of the ocean, more than his company.[break][break]

His attention turns from the sea, a smirk playing over his lips.[break][break]

"Sootopolis has some great spots," he enthuses, amber eyes bright. "Have you ever been to the city?"[break][break]

Frank had made it all too easy to slip Rocket's domain into casual conversation, and Cillian's words weren't falsehoods. Ever Grande was an equally prolific scene, but his ignorance of it was to be expected; an infamous criminal could hardly stroll up to League HQ without attracting attention.[break][break]

Other vessels dot the distant horizon, ignored for now.

Though a man with a capacity for great patience, Cillian does not like being made to wait. Yet he does not press the issue. You could learn a lot from someone by letting them lead a conversation.[break][break]

So he waits, shaking his head when the owner looks to him, and finishes his cooling cup of tea.[break][break]

Past disagreements. Cillian's gaze flicks to the hooked hand, understanding. He makes no remark, only listens, until Alphonse settles once more into silence.[break][break]

"You understand what that work entails, I trust."[break][break]

Rocket's methods were no secret. Their recent activities in Hoenn have been bloody, most notably their victory over the League in the BATTLE OF DEWFORD.[break][break]

"You can lead well enough, but can you follow?"[break][break]

His demeanour remains unthreatening, but there is an ever-present PRESSURE in the air. It seems not to affect him, or else he's good at concealing how it does.

The spirit proves more resilient than expected, and Cillian takes a deliberate step back as its ODD KEYSTONE lurches forward beneath the power of its trapped souls. Their voices flood the tomb, echoing eerily.[break][break]

Cillian is not one easily disturbed, and he remains calm with the knowledge that this was only a simulation. So long as this thing couldn't drown him, he's been through worse.[break][break]

The island comes quickly into view, and Lugia transitions from sea to sky as the waters turn shallow. Trees shield the depths of this place from their birds-eye view, a vast canopy concealing secrets.[break][break]

Trusting in Sluagh, Cillian waits for the Aerodactyl's path.[break][break]

At first, the predator is drawn to the intended prey. The scent permeates the air, and it would seem to Michael Navidson that their trap had worked.[break][break]

As the Aerodactyl gets close, however, the DARK PREDATOR latches onto its true target. It pivots, and Navy would feel the overwhelming PRESSURE of a shadow and its queen both.[break][break]

Rather than searching meticulously through the trees, a violent HURRICANE seeks to rip them from their roots, and destroy anything in its path. Aerodactyl ROARS its challenge over the howling wind.[break][break]

Briefly, Cillian mistakes this shift for KANTO.[break][break]

Smoke clots the air in heavy clouds, the acrid tang of it sharp in the back of his throat. Cities burn and ideals clash. But as his eyes adjust to the hazy skyline, he recognizes different landmarks than what he expects.[break][break]

Is this the future? He swallows concern in favour of complacence, turning away from the grisly sight only when a voice draws him in.[break][break]

"Farhan." Cillian frowns, following the Kindler's gaze to — was that a bomb? Rocket's underboss blinks, shrugs. "I suppose we must be here to violate your mountain, then."[break][break]

He feels the detonator in his hand, reaches for a pokeball with the other.[break][break]

"For the glory of Team Rocket, I presume."[break][break]

Satisfaction sparks brief in his eyes, backed up by a dip of the head. This one understood the rules of this test, then.[break][break]

As Sage enters the building, Cillian retires to a nearby taxi stop to sit on its bench. He lights up a cigarette, indulging in the poison that floods his lungs upon a deep inhale.[break][break]

Indeed, the business was not well-guarded. In fact, it wasn't guarded at all. Only the employees, of which there were two, posed any threat of discovery or suspicion. One toiled behind the counter as the other pottered about, cleaning various surfaces and adjusting merchandise.[break][break]

The occasional customer posed a different sort of threat; should Sage be seen acting suspicious, alarms might be raised.

Cillian was no small man. Six foot three and all corded muscle, he is nevertheless dwarfed by the giant who steps onto the terrace. Without fear, his amber gaze settles on the man that could only be Alphonse Gambino, lingering there as he draws close.[break][break]

He takes the offered hand without hesitation, shakes firm and brief.[break][break]

"Aye," he affirms, the depth of his own voice carrying a smoker's gravel. An ashtray sat beside him, the cigarette within slowly turning to ash — forgotten in favour of whatever had been on the screen of his phone. He'd pocketed that phone when Alphonse arrived, affording the stranger his full attention.[break][break]

Leaning back in his chair, more for comfort than any desire to extricate himself from Al's presence, the underboss pinches the cigarette between scarred fingers and takes a drag. A slow exhale sees grey smoke mix with the dark miasma that curls around him, serpentine. Alive. It shifts with him as he rests an elbow against the table.[break][break]

Though unsmiling, there is no hostility in Cillian's countenance.[break][break]

"I understand an agreement has been reached."[break][break]

He remembers, distant, what had been taught to him. You will learn to bend, or we will break you. And what they'd broken, they had rebuilt.

As the vessel explodes, Lugia plunges underwater.[break][break]

In the moments before, Cillian knows an intensity of heat only matched by the bowels of Mt. Chimney, the likes of which he'd explored with Shalin Nariya months ago. There is shock, at first, then a stab of fear as he's dragged under the water, before his mind can catch up to what's occurred. In contrast to his own racing heart, Lugia is eerily calm.[break][break]

Blood threads in thin tendrils through the surf, attracting Sharpedo who flee upon the sight of the wounded leviathan. She RECOVERS quickly, pivoting underwater to ferry them a distance away before surfacing.[break][break]

Uninjured by comparison thanks to his patron shielding him, Cillian observes the smoking wreckage of the smuggler's ship. The fate of its passengers mattered little, now. Either they'd have died in the blast, drowned in its aftermath, or were somewhere far away from here for Arceus-knows what purpose. What mattered was finding the culprit.[break][break]

A WHIRLPOOL forms around the splintered wreckage, consigning it to the depths. [break][break]

"They've got to be nearby," Cillian hisses, sending an AERODACTYL skyward. The DARK PREDATOR was a skilled hunter. "Find me a target, Sluagh."[break][break]

The prehistoric Pokémon leads with fierce AGILITY toward an island battered by wave and rain, and Lugia follows below, her bone-white spines slicing through the surf.

Bay Leaf Brews was a small but well-trafficked local café in Sootopolis, with an outdoor seating area that overlooked the city's broad bay. Its mascot, a chipper-looking Bayleef, rested beneath a blue-and-white awning and drew customers in with its AROMATHERAPY.[break][break]

Cillian disliked Bayleef, as well as this one's signature move, but the smell of coffee was far preferrable to flowers mixed with burning flesh.[break][break]

Familiar with the Rocket underboss, the owner is quick to attend him upon his entry. With an instruction to prohibit any customers not of Rocket affiliation, a single photo is shown as the exception.[break][break]

"Point him to me, when he arrives."[break][break]

No questions were asked, and a steaming pot of peppermint tea was quickly provided. Cillian sips idly at the steaming liquid as he waits, expecting his intended contact wouldn't be long. He was described as a gentlemen, and a good gentleman was rarely late.[break][break]

To a man who'd done his research in kind, Cillian's infamy made him an easy spot even without the direction provided by the establishment's owner. Tailored suit, blond hair, a scar along his cheek... and a SHADOW MIASMA that curls around him like a morning fog.
