Leave it up to him to be practically the last "big" name to enter the Hoenn Star Tournament.

Living in Kanto 'fulfilling his duties to both Kanto and Hoenn as Ambassador' for the last two months he'd been largely off Hoenn's map. He didn't imagine making it back to his apartment in Slateport to find a full blown battle event on the beach.

Everyone else's third day was his first and with all the fire he and his team spewed out on the beach today, Game was dead-set to swallow some fire instead.

Late as he was it was still just his luck, he'd walked in at the perfect moment.

Get Razz Kingsman or kyle lopez to take a shot and everyone drinks for free on FERNANDO SILPH 's pokédollar.

"I'll take that bet." He spoke up over the gathering as he made way to the bar, "I'm not much of a beer drinker." himself ordering down a line of shots. A modest row of five. Stormy Silph , Zac Ramsay , skyler dross , Laurence Anderson , Chu-e Choi , even samuel carter was here.

The feelings of festivity poured in quick. He managed to forced down his smile, he kept it his little secret; he'd missed the lot of these talented jerks.

Gently sliding away two of the five shots he downed the remaining three back to back, clanking the glass down on the bar after each shot was thrown back.

Taking a second to let the burn trail down to his stomach he picked up the lone shot and called out to offer it up to his old friend picking up another shot for himself. "Kingsman." With a grin, he waited; sure Razz wouldn't leave him hanging.

He'd thought it, but Adrian acted on it first.

A low throaty growl escaped his throat as the bathroom door was shut in occupancy. Turning back to face Serena Sénon sighed as he too felt like a wet cat with his sweaty shirt clinging to his body.

Discomfort be damned he took off his shirt and threw it over his shoulder before sitting on a comfy chair.

He cleared his throat once before taking in the Malcolm he was allowed to touch. His brows furrowed as if he was just now remembering something and not simply bringing it up the earliest and most playful convenience. "So what was that talk about you making me dinner?" A smirk was the tale-tell of his teasing.

He bowed slightly in a traditional Kantonian form of respect and civility. "I appreciate that." He hadn't been seen in Kanto since before he left for Culinary school in Kalos in his early twenties.

It was nice to know he left enough of an impression to be remembered.

"Hoenn seems to have become a hotzone for the improbable and unprecedented. Sometimes it means miracles, sometimes its nothing short of catastrophe." Before he let his thoughts fully settle on Hoenn there was still some Kanto-related things he wondered about.

"I'd like to ask you. About your coming here." He chose his words carefully given the potentially sensitive nature of what he was about to ask.

"Was your new position forced on you?" Crossing his arms he clarified. "Did you leave Lavender because you had to? Or was it all the suffering and loss in this region that brought you here?"

As an active trainer Sénon's late teens and early twenties some only a small few cases of death of his pokémoon. Every Kantonian made the voyage and buried their lost and fallen proper at the Pokémon Tower if they didn't own the land to bury them at home.

What Carter did for Lavender Town, and by extension Kanto; residing over the resting places of the fallen and showing loved ones down the path of grieving was a civil service the people of the region couldn't begin to pay back.

It brought him no joy to see Carter here.

In his mind it meant he'd come because he'd been forced out of Kanto.

"I've been here for about one year." -and what a year it had been. "I came here after..." He trailed off clearly not wanting to dive too deep into it. "Jakka, my charizard and most of my old team... they were killed."

Anyone who knew Sénon as a trainer back in Kanto would remember some of the standouts of his team; a ditto, pidgeot, tirtouga and of course, his charizard.

By now his shirt had long since been removed and left draping around his neck like a makeshift bandana drenched with the sweat of today's efforts.

He finally started to get a little thirsty but more than water it was victory he wanted to taste first.

As a ranger, he ignored the heat and the sweat and the thirst. Someone was coming and he had another match.

"Here come's a new challenger."

It was nice to know his internal whining wasn't off base.

Kantonian summers were dry heats and chilled winds carried in by the sea. Cinnabar in particular was quite breezy in the summer.

Even living under a damn volcano wasn't as sweltering as this place. Of course, Mt. Cinnabar was inactive back then.

"Ehhh. Let's not break any sweats or friendships over this one." Of all the friends he'd made in Hoenn it always felt like Adrian was the one he was destined to duel with the most. Likely, because Adrian was the first.

With so many hypothetical historical matches in their overlapping futures, they could take it easy on each other once or twice.

"Best two out of three?" He scrunched up his face, unsure of if his pitch was the right speed for his peer.

Meanwhile, he called out his first of three.

Every lapse of their communication rhythm was a red flag but he trusted Cait enough to believe she wasn't hiding anything so much as holding back.

Trying not to burden him, or maybe not to burden herself.

The fact she was still sleeping at all was a good sign and doing it without any issues was an even better sign. He expected nothing less given the pokémon he left to watch over her night's while he was away.

Heatran was to guard the perimeter, or at least sit there and look dangerous. Haunter was to guard the cabin; quietly. Klefi, was to guard Cait herself by staying on her person at all times.
He even left Babysaur () to watch over old Bulba.

"What kind of sick?" As if he would let such a tidbit of information pass by without breaking it down further. Of course he was mindful not to stress her; his tone was one seeking clarity, not laying down suspicions.

Back in his day, Kanto operated on a strict six slotted belt policy. It wasn't illegal to carry more pokéballs than your belt allowed but it was considered in highly poor taste among serious trainers which late-teenage Sénon very much regarded himself as.

Here in Hoenn; no belt limitations. The Kantonian found it liberating.

Still, it was nice to see some people still vied for the old ways. "A ranger's always prepared." He smirked.

He didn't know who he was up against so he didn't let his subtle boasting go any further than that.

She looked a little worn for ware even if he found her face to be easily modelesque.

She was pale, and seemed to lack for energy. Still it was her pokémon who would be doing the heavy lifting so her seemingly compromised state was none of his business and no reason to hold back on her.

Skipping over his prompts for a romantic getaway wasn't enough to get him to drop the idea but it wasn't anything to press for now.

Instead he focused on her breathing, her inflections, every nuance in her vocals come to bear he listened for.

As much as he enjoyed being back in his home region, he knew where the heart of his duties lied. Being appointed Ambassador gave him more arms to push his own means but there was a time and place for that and now it was just about time to be getting back to her.

Leaving her alone was a last resort.

"Everyone's fine. Jū's been examining the auras of every living thing he's never seen before. -and Gan, well I caught two more Ditto so he's a bit riled up but it'll pass." Ditto were notorious for liking everything but other ditto.

"How've you been sleeping?"

Terawr was POISONED!

Despite making leaps and bounds in his personal obedience to Sénon, the tyrunt was still a brat through and through and its pained wailing turned into its ritualistic victory roar.

Unlike the pained squealing the ranger seemed to flash a smirk of pride in the prehistoric nibbler. "Sorry, he earned that one." He offered small condolences to the other trainer about all the noise.

Seemingly already feeling the effects of the poison he took on Terawr seemed quickly lightheaded and dizzy.

Nice as it was for samuel carter to offer an antidote, Terawr; a particularly special pokémon in Sénon's roster had a lesson to learn. "No, he needs to sit with a while. He's too eager to inflict. He's egoistic and his empathy is buried pretty deep." It was something he found fairly common in most prehistoric pokémon.

"He can poison. He ought to know what its like to be poisoned."

Eventually the dino-tot came to settle standing a bit tuckered out at Sénon's feet.

"That aside Carter, how long have you been in Hoenn?"

Terawr used PSYCHIC FANGS; its Super Effective!

Toxapex were dangerous and this one was no different. His own was quite merciless which meant he knew exactly how to deal with the most aggressive of the species. Still, even in winning the battle, there were setbacks.

Even in landing the proper attacks on the Toxapex, Terawr's young skin was irritated by its natural spikes.

The blue royal got so irritated at not being able to soothe its own itches that it began to screech at his trainer/father to help. "Will you settle down." When words didn't soothe the youngling Sénon pushed it no further.

As much as he needed Terawr to heed him the Tyrunt would only be as loud as he could be without drowning out the sound of his trainer.

If Sénon started to yell the Tyrunt would yell louder.

Instead, the ranger crossed his arms and let the 'toddler' have its way. Fortunately Terawr had impeccable battle instincts.

Terawr used STOMPING TANTRUM!

Somedays were just meant to be good ones.

Ever since winning that Biome Badge from Zac Ramsay Dose had been a bit more lax and lazed than normal. Seemingly over exertion had managed to take most of the fight out of him for weeks to come.

Which made it all the more astounding that the Croagunk made his same creepy/goofy smile before springing into action to spryly reign down BULLET PUNCHES on the round top of any diglet or dugtrio to poke out from the earth.

Even when he missed he only rubbed the back of his head with the nubs on the ends of his arms that he called fists. Without shame or embarrassment he merely waited for another chance to fire a punch.

Quick bursts of speed and power followed by long amounts of waiting and sitting; the perfect game for a fighting frog. The only thing more perfect was it was a job for them to be paid for.

The sweat drenched his shirt, but he refused to take them off. Some things about it set him off in the slightest.

The irritating cling of moist clothing to his skin.

The annoying urge to wipe his brows was fresh sweat ran down from his forehead.

The petty haze of a focused summer heat that bore down on his back.

All of it just undermined his sense of comfort and pissed him off just enough to make his battle tactics a swipe more aggressive.

"Again! Use PSYCHIC FANGS!"

His voice was a swaggering tremor, upsetting the silence between them. It could have been his mind playing tricks on him, but the moments she articulated by being pensive was become more and more frequent.

It seemed all work no Game, made Cait's days plain. Or so he was guilt-ing himself to think as much.

She didn't want him under League's thumb, even in appearances.

Taking a semi-seasonal assignment in Kanto; he'd never felt so much like he stabbed her in the back.

It was all he could do to soothe the wound by spending every waking moment with her on the phone when they both could.

"You will love Lumiose. 5-Star Restaurants. Cobblestone boulevards with super-wide roads."

As of late, sneaking away from Hoenn for a vacation was the seed he planted unto her mind.

"Afternoon Carriage-rides by Gogoat. A slow drift along the city canal at dusk. Dinner at the base of Prism Tower." Despite her heavy seasickness he still wagered she would risk it for the picturesque views. "I defy you cook up a better getaway than that."
