The two zeraora had it out to decide the fate of the territory two simian species were vying for. It wasn't a twist anyone saw coming but when something worked; it worked.

Rather than the two tribes warring at large letting proxies decide the battle saved dozens on dozens of Mankey, Primeape and Passimian from injury and death. Better yet, because the fighters weren't of either species the wild pokémon could move on with little animosity for the rival species.

The white furred Passimian bet on the one-eyed human's monkeycat and the tanned and khaki-colored Mankey and Primeape sided with the similar colored Monkeycat standing with the human with the long red headfur.

When Sénon's Zeraora fell in its headstrong attempt to fight without a human trainer it was decided the Mankey/Primeape had to move on and the yellow Zeraora had to stay with Sénon, at least for a while longer.

Calling the rare pokémon back to its ball, as the rival wildmon began to disperse for good Sénon turned back to his mission partner.

"Post-work dinner; my treat?"

All his efforts not to make much of a 'footprint' during his weekly runs fell to the wayside this week as the mutts seemed to instinctively swarm a coalossal at the top of the path.

Breaking up two Heatran from a giant living piece of coal was a risky task for any human. Wisely Sénon had to let the natural events play out. Likely there was something in the Coal Pokémon's sooty-scent or body composition that reminded the Heatran of living beneath the earth.

They treated the wild-mon more like a piece of earth than another living creature.

Injured and in need of medical attention a premiere ball stabilized the unconscious fire-type and heated words brought the confused Heatran to heal, though he doubted they understood what they had done.

Crimsen attempted to capture Coalossal!

He deserved this. Truly.

He recognized that now.

It was the burden of leadership to be where the 'buck stops' to be where problems go to be solved for good. A good leader handled the problems of their juniors but a great leader ensured his juniors could solve problems themselves.

@chloe latest text was a relief; Mission Complete.

She'd done it all without his help and little of his input. As rangers he might be framed for her success but it lowered him; the idea of being praised when he'd dropped the ball.

He was proud of Chloe for getting it done but a more than a little disappointed in himself.

Following the suggested entry area he found the entry the others must have used to get inside but after that it all went to shit. He stepped into a hole that he swore wasn't there when he looked down a moment before. The unprepared inertia of stepping down two feet when you only meant to step down two inches was enough to sprain an unsuspecting ankle.

Senon's ankle was unsuspecting as hell.

Following that he decided to hobble on and get the mission done anyway, assured his team needed his help.

A distant battle echoed off the walls and the rumbles and pulsations in the wake of that battle caused loose structures to come undone and before he knew it one poorly placed foothold caused a small cave-in.

Kadabra taking a large stone slab to the back of the head meant his TELEPORTER was now inoperable.

Sitting in such a trapped pinched condition he fought off the instinct to panic knowing he had trained and reliable pokémon searching just outside the parameters of this caving system. Before he could truly question if he would die in his rocky hole or not he was found by Dugtrio.

With a little time lapse Heatran burrowed through to get to him; eating dirt, cracking rock and leaving molten waste in its wake to free its trainer. A saving grace from the League itself, although he'd had it for a while saving his life finally seemed to inspire a real bond with the gifted rarity. For the first time he felt a personal pride in the fire-type like the two of them were finally becoming a team.

That made the text from dahlia goode sting all the much more being informed the Heatran was being moved to League Custody under a different handler. Plus somewhere in all the excitement of being crushed to death by rocks at some point what he thought was a sprain felt more like a break.

His ankle, his pride and half his heatran. Maybe karma was just settling a tab but he couldn't help but feel taxed on this little excursion.

For all the digging going on beneath his feet, he couldn't feel the ground stirring at all.

It all probably Heatran and Steelix were rooting around so low in the earth they were too far away to be felt. More likely though Sénon suspected it was because human senses were extremely close range.

His phone rang again, a notification rather than a phone call.

It was Porter with a update; an unsettling one.

Poipole had the capacity to be tamable and competent pokémon and by that right it was entirely plausible they could co-exist in our world without incident. The Poipole he had proved it.

Even still, the RedHead Ranger never forgot what they truly were or capable of.

Similarly he didn't forget what he and his rangers were capable of, and why they were here.

Not mission priority.

Wild Ultra Beasts can be highly lethal.
Engage with non-attack moves only.

Full-on battle prohibited; risk of cave-ins.

On my way.

He hadn't left Chloe much to work with on her own. His text message gave her loose enough parameters to capture the ultra beast if she was capable and lucky enough but not at the expense of her own safety nor her teams; the mission came first.

He trusted her enough to lead a team of three to an unknown point to search for an artifact without incident but with Rocket openly waving their flags to the public every mission was potentially one of them to hijack.

"Dugtrio. Tell the others to keep searching and then catch up with me."

The Mole Pokémon affirmed with furrowed brows and submerged herself to carry the message to her teammates; its sense of movement on the surface above it informing her that her trainer was already off in full sprint.

Another Pokéday, another Pokédollar.

Same shit, different color and texture.

Frame it as bad if you want to but there was something to be said about consistency, about being able to wake up and know where you day is going and how your night is coming.

The Magmutts seemed to be adjusting to their new consistency after being rattled form their normal lives and plucked from underground by trainers he wasn't lucky nor skilled enough to stand with, at the time.

Getting along as well as the two Heatran did, he only seldom had to break up scuffles between them. "Stay focused, the both of you." He still needed to use a stern voice and imply he would battle them with another pokémon by ghosting his hand over his pokéballs.

But it worked and as a small trio the human two heatran walked the fiery path as they did every week now.

From a separate distance from the rest of the league and those who would be stalking them, a Dugtrio protruded from the earth watching a man with long swaying strands of wine colored hair. "Sorry to hold you up Porter, but you're on your own for now."

That map, reliable as it probably was for breaching the cave system wouldn't help them find the target any faster.

There was another breach and search method he wanted to try himself and it was messy to do with more than one person.

"Give me some time, I'll catch up with the lot of you."

Tapping into an existing cave system was tedious and time consuming. Kneeling down to the Dugtrio, he inquired about the progress, the others were making.

It was only be chance he encountered the Ralts, Kirlia and Gardevoir practicing their mental abilities as a horde.

With a Ralts, Kirlia and Gallade already in his roster he wasn't facing much loss if he came up empty.

Still he had an extra Premier Ball, so why not make a subtle capture attempt.
