The DESERT was the only consistent source of relief from the winter weather in Hoenn currently. The sun shone hot and bright here in the daytime. Though, admittedly, the moon heralded the cold late at night. No ice, at least. No snow. Such things could not survive here.

Nevertheless, it's early in the morning when Remiel Calcifet finds himself here. He's exploring the dunes for ancient ruins and archaeological sites when he sees a familiar silhouette in the distance. Lifting his arm to wave at the man, he cups one hand around his mouth to yell. "Matias?! Is that you?"

His SHINY PALOSSAND, in the meantime, emerges from the sand below to peek out. It senses something coming.

he mutters mostly to himself and his urshifu as the two of them stand seemingly in the middle of the desert looking at nothing in particular. his gaze travels all around them before eventually falling on a familiar face.[break][break]

"didn't expect to see you in the desert! what are you doing out here, man?"

Suddenly, a CLODSIRE emerges from the sand between them, interrupting their reunion for the time being. It appears dehydrated, emaciated, and aggressive, however. Though it tries to attack Remiel with a SLUDGE WAVE, said attack peters out seconds after leaving its giant maw.

BUCKINGHAM the Palossand, on the other hand, bursts out from the sand below it swiftly (EARTH POWER). The Clodsire collapses on its side as a result, after which Remiel pulls out an empty Luxury Ball and catches it. He then proceeds to walk towards Matias in the distance.

"Looking for archaeological sites!" He yells back, putting away his latest capture in his pack. "You?"

as they near the prince, there's no longer a need to yell, so his voice lowers.[break][break]

"and also i heard there's a rift here in one of the ruins. i wanted to check out the area and see if anything strange is happening."[break][break]

as he has been doing across hoenn which explains his many chance encounters with remy.[break][break]

though not a paldean pokemon, the drumming of rillaboom's BOOMBURST reaches them even if it's all the way in the far distance. he does his best to ignore it.

The appearance of the Clodsire validates Matias' endeavor here in the desert. Remiel's interest piques at the mention of a rift, however, and he wonders if it might not somehow be related to the ruins that he's looking for as well. Before he can speak on it, however, a GROVYLE with sundried leaves emerges over the top of a sandy hill.

Hungry for any kind of sustenance, it darts straight for Remiel with a ferocious shriek. Just before it can strike the prince down with a FURY CUTTER, however, his Palossand traps it in a SAND TOMB. The raptor is swept off its feet and dragged into the desert itself. Before it completely disappears, however, the ambassador pulls out a Luxury Ball and casts it.

"We can go look together." He suggests.

the suggestion is accepted with ease as he's come to be familiar with the prince. he's capable enough to hold his own which is always something matias appreciates.[break][break]

and yes, the appearance of a CLODSIRE earlier does confirm his suspicions that there are clearly paldean pokemon scattered across the region even in extreme places. but he does wonder if anything else has ventured through the rifts.[break][break]

The sight of Matias' URSHIFU inspires a sense of respect and awe. Being a martial artist of sorts himself, Remiel could appreciate good form when he saw it. His own Urshifu practiced the Rapid-Strike style, and he daydreamed for a moment about what it might be like to see those two in battle. Returning to the conversation, however, he speaks.

"Draconid sites. Places of ritual and worship, in particular," Sharp hues of cobalt shift at the sight of something digging towards them fast. When the GABITE explosively emerges out from the sand with a DRAGON RUSH, however, his Palossand blasts it upward with an EARTH POWER. When it hits the ground, Remiel pulls out an empty Luxury Ball from his pack and catches it.

while matias has not heard of anything of the sort in the desert, he paid a visit to one recently elsewhere. he wonders if remy has heard of it. most likely, though, considering the prince's expertise on dragons.[break][break]

"have you been to the one in meteor falls? it's similar to the one in blackthorn."[break][break]

a wild cranidos' HEADBUTT crashes into urshifu, though it doesn't do much else beyond being a nuisance. urshifu peers down at it, then lets it pass.[break][break]

"but i liked the one in johto more."

Remiel nods. "I have, actually. I'm paying it regular visits for a research paper I'm working on." He adds, narrowing his eyes when he spots what appears to be tentacles emerging from the sand. When they start to release SPORES, however, he's quick to order an EARTH POWER to blast the TOEDSCRUEL out from below. Thankfully, its cloud of neurotoxins dissipates.

Returning his attention to Matias, Remiel laughs when he mentions liking Blackthorn's shrine better. "Why's that?" He asks, pulling out an empty Luxury Ball and tossing it at the unconscious Toedscruel for a swift capture.
