THE ULTRA CRATER IS A LARGE EXPANSE UNDERNEATH A YELLOW SKY. In between thick, almost impassable jungles, craters filled with green fields and alien plants lay. What appears to be metal pipe-like roots grow out the rock of crater walls. Geysers dot this alien landscape, occasionally expelling shrieking steam.[break][break]

The world is frequented by earthquakes, causing odd red monoliths of rock to quake throughout the realm. Oddly, the Ultra Thicket possesses very fertile soil. In the distance, a large mountainous expanse can be seen, though the range does not seem too high.

A few months passed before Zev and Nenet returned to the abandoned cottage in Ultra Crater. They had finally collected all five items indicated on the bamboo that filled the strange, shrine-like grotto: a small stoneware bowl, Nenet's Typhlosion, Zev's Blastoise, a Dragon-type Tera shard, and a small brooch depicting a branch with emerald leaves. [break][break]

Zev took it upon himself to reinforce the cottage as a base of operations. The ruined shell of the building was a poor shelter. He covered the hole in the roof with a waterproof tarp and set up the semblance of a livable campsite while his Type: Null stood watch. [break][break]

When he finished, there were two sleeping bags set up next to each other on comfortable, insulated flooring; a portable, gas-powered grill and basic utensils for a modest kitchen; and enough space for Nenet's scientific equipment. [break][break]

"What do you think? Good enough?" he asked her, stepping back with his hands on his hips to admire his work. [break][break]

Letting Zev do the bulk of the manual labour, Nenet sits with a sour look on her face as she tinkers with the equipment that was left behind from their original jaunt into the Crater. Screwdriver in hand, she opens the hatch of the recorder and peers at the guts of the instrument, a sigh soon heaved as she finds corrosion within.

Zev's voice draws her attention, and a quick glance around the area reveals he has transformed the place into a suitable shelter for an extended research expedition.

"More than," she confirms with a smile; letting the recorder tip onto the ground, she huffs softly as she informs Zev, "The atmosphere or rain, I'm not sure which, corroded the circuitry. I may not get the readings I wanted after all." She grabs the bag filled with their items and tips her chin towards the outdoors.

"Let's go look at the crater's centre," she suggests as she stands, the debris of the area brushed from her clothes.

"We can always come back with more equipment so you can try again," Zev assured Nenet as he followed her out of the cottage. [break][break]

Though he could not do anything about the atmosphere, he'd fixed the hole in the roof; if the rain had damaged her machinery, then the tarp should prevent it from happening again. [break][break]

Type: Null looked over as they started walking toward the crater's edge. The man called out to the beast, "Stay here and keep watch. Don't let anything approach." [break][break]

Then he opened a second Pokéball and released his Dragapult. She uttered a cry in recognition upon seeing Nenet and floated toward the woman. [break][break]

"Dragapult, bring us down there with PHANTOM FORCE," Zev instructed the dual-type, pointing to the grove of bamboo stalks at the bottom of the massive basin. [break][break]

His Pokémon nodded, and then, in the blink of an eye, brought them to the grotto as instructed. [break][break]

The strange shrine seemed unchanged since their last visit.

"Yes," Nenet agrees. "Hopefully we won't be as long coming back, which certainly was a factor."

She nonetheless smiles as Dragapult is released from her pokeball. With a soft, "Hello baby," her hands lift to lightly scratch under the dragon's chin as the Pokemon floats near. Then, in a blink of an eye they're down within the crater, and she turns her attention to the shrine at the centre with a keen eye.

Holding no fear with Zev at her side, she strides towards the shrine and pulls off her bag where the bulk of the items rest. The construct is simple, and she finds the altar oddly free of weathering or debris as she runs a finger over its top.

"Stand back for now," she calls over her shoulder to Zev.
[break][break]
With those observations tucked neatly away Nenet carefully arranges the items on the altar ensuring each one touches the surface, and then releases her Typhlosion from its pokeball, as well as Zev's Blastoise; though the altar isn't big enough for the Pokemon to climb atop it, they each place a paw and claw where told.

The reaction is almost immediate, and around them the world turns a veritable shade of green as the foliage in the thicket blossoms with abandon. A sweet perfume fills the air and as Nenet spies the moon, now hanging heavy and much closer than it once was, a sense of longing and loss grips her heart fiercely.

"I think we could reach it," she whispers with want.

As the shrine activated, the grove burst into verdant life around them. Zev eyed the flora with suspicion, but then his gaze drew back to Nenet as if something about her had suddenly caught his eye. [break][break]

His throat went dry and his heart skipped a beat—a strange, unfamiliar feeling. As concerning as it was, however, he couldn't take his eyes off his wife. Somehow, she appeared even more beautiful and alluring than normal. [break][break]

Compelled by a sudden desire to touch her, Zev stepped up and traced the curve of her spine with a gentle hand. Leaning in, he was about to kiss her neck when her whisper brought his attention to the full moon hanging above them. [break][break]

"Then we will, if that's what you want," he murmured, seized by the urge to grant her every wish. [break][break]

The distant smoke trail of a Celesteela in flight gave him an idea. [break][break]

Taking Nenet's hand and lacing their fingers together, Zev said, "Let's head back up to the cottage. We can have Type: Null find a Celesteela, and then we'll catch a ride." [break][break]

Nenet hardly noticed Zev's closeness until he whispered in her ear. Her gaze only-just pulls from the sky, and her heart soars as Zev offers her the moon. Her hand slips easily into his, and the pair move as one back up the crater and to the cottage to find a Celesteela.

Somehow the idea doesn't seem that farfetched at all.

"Type: Null," Nenet calls as they crest the ridge. The Pokemon peers suspiciously at Nenet as she asks, "Find us a Celesteela." Once spoken her gaze travels once more up to the moon, a look of yearning overcoming her expression as its pale light bathes the pair.

"Do you think this will work," she asks, breathless with an aching desire.
[break][break]
Meanwhile Blastoise and Typhlosion scurry after their trainers, the Pokemon clearly confused as to what's going on. Typhlosion pops back into his pokeball, seemingly afraid of being left behind.

Once they reached their campsite, Zev returned his Blastoise and Dragapult to their Pokéballs. Type: Null lingered, unused to receiving orders from anyone other than its master. [break][break]

"You heard her," Zev told the Pokémon, a sharpness in his voice that hadn't been there moments before. Type: Null huffed but turned and trotted off. [break][break]

Alone now, Zev moved to stand behind Nenet and wrapped his arms around her. He nuzzled her hair with his nose and said in a low voice, "Of course it will. Trust me." [break][break]

He urged her away from the edge of the crater, his hand holding hers once more so they could follow Type: Null together. [break][break]

After a few minutes of searching, the ground began to quake. A deep howl filled the air as Type: Null beckoned for its master. Zev and Nenet reached the Celesteela as it started to tear itself out of the ground. [break][break]

"Quickly!" the man yelled as he recalled his Pokémon back into a ball. Then he helped Nenet onto the Celesteela before jumping up after her. [break][break]

Somehow it felt right to be clinging to the cold metal of a Celesteela who was now hurtling towards the moon; Nenet's heart soars the higher they go, until it doesn't anymore. The fog of the Crater's flora begins to spread thin, and slowly she comes to her senses as to what they're doing.

She blinks once. Then twice. Looking from Zev's arm wrapped protectively around her to the giant Ultra Beast they ride upon, she deadpans after a moment, "This was a poor decision."

It was perhaps the largest understatement of their entire relationship.
[break][break]
This becomes all the more evident when the Celesteela begins to run out of steam both literally and metaphorically; the arc in their ascent reaches a peak, and Nenet's stomach falls sharply with their impending descent.

"Zev?" she barks, panic evident in her voice.

For Zev, the euphoria induced by the Ultra Crater's plant life drained at the same rate it did for Nenet. As the Celesteela ran out of fuel and reached the top of its arc, his mind raced for a solution out of their predicament. [break][break]

And when the Ultra Beast hung in the air for a split second before its fall, the answer hit Zev like a bullet. [break][break]

He shifted his perception, allowing himself to see the indescribable threads that connected everything to the planet like cosmic tissue. Isolating the ones tied to himself and Nenet, he lessened gravity's pull on them both. [break][break]

Though the Celesteela plummeted to the ground, the two humans remained suspended in the air, overlooking the vast landscape of Ultra Crater. At that height, the wind whipped around them, teasing at their clothes and hair with harmless fingers. [break][break]

Zev tightened his grip on Nenet, more out of instinctual protectiveness than actual need. "Not afraid of heights, are you?" he teased. [break][break]

Mentally, he increased the pull of gravity in small increments, allowing them to descend at a slow and easy pace until they touched back down on the ground. [break][break]
