The slightest of smiles begins to form at her glossy lips, growing more and more with each passing second. "Ah yes, of course... Don't you worry, Admin Bee, I will do The Science T-M... The smile becomes a grin, and she laughs, unable to keep up the act. As seriously as Ceri takes her work, she will never be above teasing and a few jokes, especially when it comes to people she likes. Maybe that's a good thing, maybe not. Regardless, she gets the job done.

As proof, after she gives Bee a smiling "Have a happy New Year, and see you next week!", she compiles all the data and footage from her Rotom's camera, writing a detailed report that is then filed and sent to both the M.A.G.M.A Division and Cillian Quinn, her mentor and direct superior.

If Ceri were aware of BARNABY FINCH’s actual profession (or the fact that he’s BARNABY FINCH, for that matter), she would joke about how he sounds like he’s doing one of the interviews in his talk show. But, since Ceri isn’t aware and has only ever watched a few segments that interest her, that joke doesn’t come to mind at all.

Z-Moves didn’t really work on the crystals there, so that led me to theorise that terastellized pokémon might not be able to use them either. She pauses, looking at Bee. Here’s where things venture further into the field of physics than biology, and as much as Ceri has spent long years researching the different forms of energy that affect pokémon, she’s well aware that Bee has not.

”Think of it kind of like a radiation protection suit, yeah? The crystals create a barrier that prevents the radiation from the Z-Crystal from reaching your Ninetales. I imagine that if she had eaten a Passho Berry, it would have a similar effect. As long as Terastallization is present, no Z-Move can be used.”

There’s still a certain unfading wonder about terastellization, no matter how many times Ceri has witnessed it in action by now — both in person and when constantly replaying footage for research purposes. However, the luxury of awe has long since been lost, and her mind is solely focused on their current purpose.

So, she watches as Bee’s Z-Ring activates, obviously resonating with the Z-Crystal. The latter emits energy as it usually would, but this energy does not seem to reach the Ninetales that proudly stands covered in glorious crystals.

”Interesting.” The researcher mutters, looking through her data and through the footage of the cameras controlled by her Rotom. Thermal imaging can be wonderful when it comes to this sort of thing. ”Just as I suspected…. Looks like pokémon may not be able to use Z-moves while Terastellized.”

It’s all too funny to keep pretending for long, and while Ceri may often be capable of pulling off masterful acts of deceit, today she’s just not in the mood. They have work to do! So, naturally, there’s a hint of a smile when she gives Bee his response.

”To use a Z-Move!” She winks as if the admin were asking something silly, but she’s quick to further elaborate: ”Mostly, I want your Ninetales to Terastellize and then attempt to use this Z-Crystal. This machine here will measure its energy output.”

There’s a little pat given to the device in question, and as per usual, her attention turns to checking that everything is ready on her tablet. Once the Rotom leaves her phone (which she catches with ease) and enters one of the cameras, a nod is given once she confirms that they're ready.

Thankfully for him, since Ceri has come to know Bee rather well this past few months and thus knows the admin has a flair for the dramatic, when she gets the message text, she rightfully decides to fuck with him. While riding the elevator down to the lab’s test chamber where they had agreed to meet, she sends the following response:

Ceri may just not be made for field work. When Doctor Pryde tells her to move out of the way, there’s a rush of adrenaline that causes her to jump to the side and end up falling hard on the ground. She winces at the pain, but on the bright side, at least she had managed to avoid the strange pokémon’s attack.

Despite what Ceri says, it takes some time, since each sample is studied and carefully analysed. Once she has compiled the results, she gives Killian a smile, and thankfully it’s not the sort of smile nurses and doctors give patients they know to be seriously ill before the patient themselves are aware of it. It’s a good smile.

”Alright, so… See here?” Samples are displayed on one of the lab’s wall-mounted screens, visual aid making it easier for her to explain her findings to Killian. ”Deoxys is healing you; strengthening you. Your skin is much tougher and more resistant than normal, which made collecting those samples kind of difficult.”

There’s a short and light laugh at that, and the display changes to the rest of the samples.

”Deoxys seems to be consuming adrenaline and phenethylamine, so you may notice some changes in your mood.” Not the worst side effect out there, right? However, at this point Ceri looks at Killian, raising her index finger. ”I don’t particularly think it means you any harm, but the way it can alter your body suggests a degree of attachment that may become concerning in the long run. Ceri’s work never ends, and although there’s always new oddities to study, sometimes that can mean that events from the past that may have been overlooked until now are gazed back upon with newfound wonder. Take Necrozma’s attack at this very city, for example: they had studied multiple samples, yes, but it’s only now that M.A.G.M.A summons Shizue Murasaki to their headquarters.

A receptionist directs the researcher to the lab Ceri had reserved for today, not her personal lab space in the third floor (which requires a higher clearance level), but one in the first floor. There, the young scientist awaits, wearing a lab coat with the division’s embroidered logo.

Not all that long ago, Ceri herself had worked as a research assistant at Team Rocket’s laboratories, but after being officially hired as a researcher, more and more projects were put on her plate, and eventually, that had meant that now she finds herself in the need of her own assistant. It's all still a bit surreal, honestly.

It means a world of possibility.

She’s about to go about all of this, but then Underboss Merlino reaches into his pocket, and when he offers her the keycard, the oddest thing happens: she’s too stunned to speak.

See, to a degree, Ceri had expected to receive Tier III clearance soon, because progression in the M.A.G.M.A division is fairly simple and linear. What she had not expected was for Cillian Quinn to give him said clearance himself, nor for him to smile as if he’s proud of her.
