he was confused and extremely concerned about how things had suddenly begun to go south again on one of these fucking excursions. one moment he was being gently hugged by a bunch of these little dudes and suddenly the hugging got a lot stronger. and a lot more painful. "ow... a little bit rough there guys." he tried to wiggle his leg free, only to find that there was something strange going on. he couldn't move his leg away from their iron grip. his nervous laughter turned into pained sounds turned into a loud shriek as he felt his leg being crushed underneath the combined weight and pressure from the meltans that had yet to join the large grouping of them.

blood began to leak from the few spaces that had been between the meltan as he dropped the one he had been holding. as soon as it joined the pile of them the pressure on his leg began to release. unfortunately that meant that the only thing that was holding his weakened leg was gone and he collapsed onto the ground, blood dripping from his crushed leg and pooling on the ground as it were. "b-blood..." he didn't feel the pain really. he didn't feel anything. he wondered if that was what happened when your body went into shock? but weren't you supposed to feel cold? and he didn't really feel anything at all. except for dizzy.

Hideo followed Eris Halla into cover, a good distance away from the ensuing battle. And, fortunately, away from the flying debris. It was going to be a little awkward directing a battle all the way from this distance - Aaron probably wouldn’t even hear him when the fighting got thick. But he had a workaround for that; he took out his spare (occupied) Pokeball, letting out the Beheeyem within.

Elga took one look at the ensuing fight, then at his trainer. Hideo could feel the concern from Elga’s Telepathy, and the urge for them to leave. “Can’t really leave now, Elga,” Hideo protested, “Just help me help Aaron win this.” And maybe take something home with him after this was done.

If this Melmetal was as tough as it sounded, then Hideo would have to let Aaron go loose. He reached into his pocket, grabbing his Mega Bracelet. But as he took it out, his Rotomdex spoke. “Woowee, that’s one heck of a mega!”

Hideo paused for a moment, Mega Bracelet in hand. “Did someone else make their Pokemon Mega Evolve?”

“Well, yeah. Blonde Babysitter here made his Charizard evolve. But I meant your Aggron.”

Hideo could guess that the “blonde babysitter” was the man helping direct them (Josh Dragomir ). But he was still caught off guard by the last part. “Wait, really? But I didn’t even activate it. I thought they only go mega when we let them.” But as Elga soon confirmed for him, his Aggron did indeed Mega Evolve the moment it got in close range of the Melmetal. Even said Aggron was surprised, but shook it off and returned his focus to the enemy at hand.

“Well if you didn’t do it, then I don’t know what did.”

Hideo grumbled. Wasn’t really the time to argue over that. “Elga, tell Aaron to whack it with his tail.” With a quick confirmation, the order was telepathically relayed over, and the Mega Aggron smacked the Melmetal with an Iron Tail.

Though that attack definitely did some damage, it also drew the Melmetal’s attention to Aaron. It delivered an uncharacteristically-swift Brick Break to Aaron, who just managed to block it with an arm. Yet that blow was still enough to push the near-half-ton Mega Aggron back a couple meters.

For a brief moment, Hideo got distracted by what sounded like a scream. “What was that?” Hideo asked his Beheeyem. Elga looked over at the source (glitch maverick ), and after a quick moment of deliberation, gave a vague answer - he wasn’t sure. “Weird.”

Of course, he knew exactly what had happened. But he didn’t want Hideo to get distressed over something he had no way of helping.

his ears were ringing as they were doing battle around him. the sound of metal and just... what were those sounds? his head was swimming with trying to concentrate on it, a nervous giggle came out of his mouth. why did he feel like he was floating? people were yelling and he was yelling? maybe? at least his mouth felt like it was open but maybe no other sound other than giggles were coming out. a perfectly normal reaction to not being able to stand up. not being able to move. "where is my... phone?" he reached for the phone that had fallen to the wayside but the screen seemed to not be working. or maybe he wasn't even pressing the screen. maybe he was just staring at it? it was all confusing right now. so fucking confusing. he wanted to make a phone call but everything was too blurred as it slipped from his grip again.

"Glitch!" Came out of Doug before he could reign in his first impulse, the youth sprinting towards the other man while swinging his arms wildly, a pokeball and a net ball flying through the air.

An unlikely ally was summoned from the bugcatcher's repertoire as Eris Halla' Emolga erected a barrier between glitch maverick's unconscious form and flying scrap, an egg shaped pink blob appearing from his pokeball.

She wore a field-medic jacket tailored specifically for herself, the name 'Joy' inscribed in her arm tag. As her eyes fixed onto Glitch's heavily damaged body, her eyes grew wide, before snapping to Cpt. Douglas as he slid to a stop besides them.

The youth's gaze snapped to Thomas Benoit.

"What's the damage? Nurse Joy, get to it! Field treatment!" He ordered snappily, to which the nurse quickly nodded, her training kicking in. She lowered herself before gently singing Glitch to sleep, her own form of anesthetics. "You are gonna be okay, man! Nurse Joy, Healing Wish!"

While the nurse prepared to treat his fellow Gym Leader's injuries, Cpt. Douglas turned his attention to the Melmetal and his other pokemon, eyes narrowing.

He stood at a good vantage spot, allowing him a general view of the entire battle and everything going on. Eris had taken Hideo Kino away from the danger zone, thankfully. That was one less thing to worry about.

He would grill the crap out of both kids from not just running away entirely after everything was over.

Another jackass who needed to be slapped upside the head with some sense was the teacher, who wasn't even paying attention to his quarry while he went off to mess with the Melmetal, nearly getting himself smashed in the process.

Josh Dragomir was bloody doing a better job as a guardian of both children and himself, for gods' sake. He was gonna file a formal complaint with their school, damn it! Actually, forget that, he was gonna apply to mentor Eris himself!

"Manda!" Snapped Cpt. Douglas as he grasped the hem of his hat, rainbow like energy crackling through the air and flowing into the centipede pokemon as it leapt down into the fray, a black cocoon forming around it shortly before it suddenly exploded outwards, revealing a massive, flying centipede. "Immobilize it."

Over 30 feet in length, the Mega Centiskorch weaved through the air elegantly while making its way towards the Melmetal, its cool gaze at odds with the extreme temperature it exuded as it suddenly accelerated.

As the Melmetal swung at the oncoming bug, it ducked under the blow before wrapping its body around the arm, slithering up its length before winding itself tightly around the whole of the Melmetal's body.

G-Max Centiferno

The many coils exuding flames from its body shone brightly for but a moment, before a massive detonation suddenly engulfed both pokemon, a pillar of fire rising to the sky and splitting the clouds.

Elga’s deception didn’t last; it was hard not to realize someone got hurt when literally everyone was shouting about it. First Eris Halla outright asking if someone died (before revealing he was still alive), then both John Sullivan and the guy who hired Hideo (Thomas Benoit ) immediately covering him. “Ah shit,” Hideo muttered, realizing he didn’t just imagine that scream.

He would’ve tried to go help deal with glitch maverick ’s injury, but he didn’t really know much beyond basic first aid. And none of his Pokemon could heal others. Even as he was assured that people were already on it, he couldn’t escape that feeling of unease and fear, that someone might actually die here.

But before he could get too distracted, there was a sudden wave of calm washing over him. He didn’t know why - he knew he would’ve normally been more on-edge, more terrified - but his heart just went at ease for some reason. He didn’t know Elga was effectively enforcing a Calm Mind on him through his Telepathy. But it was enough to get him to focus on the fight - completely missing that Eris just ran off to do something else.

He received a flurry of information from his Beheeyem; several other Pokemon had mega-evolved and were currently engaging with the Melmetal. And yet despite being heavily outnumbered, the Melmetal was holding its own, taking every hit in stride, even getting off several counterattacks.

Once Doug’s Centriskorch enveloped it, Hideo realized his Aggron was a little light on options; he couldn’t get in without getting caught in the fire or attack at range without potentially hitting someone else.

But for good or for ill, he’d still get a chance: Elga informed him that despite being surrounded by flames, despite its movements limited by paralysis, there was a glint of light from the Melmetal. Hideo didn’t like that one bit. “Aaron, quick! Protect against that!”

The order couldn’t have come a moment too soon: just as the protective barrier rose up, a Flash Cannon erupted from the Melmetal, hitting the barrier straight on. It managed to hold against the attack, but an audible *crack* could be heard as the barrier buckled under its strength.


Summary
- Hideo is overwhelmed for a moment, but his Beheeyem forcibly calms him via Calm Mind+Telepathy
- Hideo's Aggron erects a Protective barrier just in time to block a Flash Cannon.  The attack is blocked, but his barrier is in poor shape afterwards.
