titling himself as a 'late bloomer' sounded like a bad idea. that, and he didn't advertise that he had keldeo, unlike the other 'justice doggos.' so he just shrugged his shoulders, furrowed his brows.

perhaps keldeo isn't a late bloomer as much as ... not a legendary? perhaps like silvally. a psuedo.

"there aren't any on record, so i was curious if you had personally known any yourself. i research the subject in my spare time, thought i would ask a true to life avatar themselves. i might ask Stormy Silph as well. i've a heatran that could use a good home, and more of their kind."

an honest handful, really.

"I know what ya mean, I've got a pair of them at home, Zagrea and Zirca. They can be a bit of a handful!" Zac had dug a massive magma pit in his backyard for the Heatran to play in, but since the move to the factory they had been restless. Maybe it was time for another trip out to Mt Chimney.

He scratched his chin, thinking over the Avatars he knew of. "There are a whole mess of us around, but everyone I know got their powers right away. Maybe there are a few who don't know they've been picked yet! Avatars in training or something. Oh! Avatarainees!" Zac chuckled, and thought about it more, and continued. "When Bulu picked with me, I could feel the connection right away. And now I can summon them anytime. If someone had a legendary pick them, but couldn't summon them and had no powers...I guess they're not yet a full Avatar."

avatarainees... sam cringes.

but he hides it well by simply following zac and listening to his words, keeping to himself and watching the pokémon around them to check and see how they are engaging with the environment around them. they seem to just ... be fine, normal. it's a bit lack-luster, but sam's a bit thankful for it.

his life was crazy enough as it was, he didn't need the help of being an avatar, he supposed. maybe. hell, apparently he wasn't even a full avatar just a possible maybe could be avatar.

yikes.

"thanks zac. it's reassuring... were any of the others able to physically capture their avatars? like, in a pokéball of any kind?"

because that was the trick, wasn't it? sam had physically caught keldeo. so perhaps keldeo itself wasn't strong enough to pick its avatar... and that was fine with sam. he knew keldeo needed the rest and he was happy to be that safe haven.

"Hmmmm," Zac said, mulling over the idea. "Not...that I remember..." he said, searching the little corners of his memory. "I don't recall anyone ever sending out their partner. Normally they appear in a flash of light or in a pink fog or something."

"Bulu just appears in nearby greenery whenever I think about them." Zac looked over to where Tapu Bulu was now snoozing on one of the thick branches. As he watched, a Phantump floated out of a gap in the tree structure and settled down next to Bulu. The legendary snoozed on.

This line of questioning seemed familiar. It reminded Zac of when he had tried to draw info out of Fernando Silph. Thankfully for Sam, Zac was a bit more talkative. He smiled at Sam, and took a shot in the dark. "So which legendary did you catch?"

that shot in the dark hit its mark with pinpoint precision. sam just smiles, thinking on whether or not he even wants to say the truth or not. usually, he's all for the truth, regardless of what comes of it. truth is better than lies. always.

it wasn't like the news hadn't covered the story already without even checking to see if he appreciated himself being broadcasted or not. speaking of which, how had they even gotten his information? he'd need to look into that.

"but there are no powers that i can sense, and nothing out of the ordinary. keldeo was very injured when i first had the encounter, and i offered shelter and managed to nurse the creature back to health... but it's quite a mystery."

a mystery because he wasn't sure how they were even supposed to work to begin with.

"Keldeo, ay?" Zac said, thinking about it. "Cute little water horse with the horn, yeah? How did it get hurt?" He didn't know much about it, but like any legendary there was bound to be more going on under the surface. Did it change form? Sprout wings? Zac fell back on his own experience with Pokemon rehabilitation.

"I you nursed him back to health but things still aren't working then it may be a psychological issue. I had something similar with Boshi my Turtonator after he got beat up by Tapu Bulu. He couldn't breathe fire, and I had top stop battling with him for ages." Zac picked some more of the flowers that were sprouting around them. He wove them into a clumsy chain and put it around the horn of the Phantump that had joined them. "You'd be best to check in with Eva Morales. She's the resident expert on that stuff and I'd trust her with anything."
