He arrived at Adrian's early, only after brief announcement via text.

When he opened the door, Sénon stopped chewing on his thumb's nail.

He held up the original mysterious device, its contents already transferred to his phone. "I'm not missing out on whatever this is." He was serious.

"Get your shit." and he wasn't here to mince words.

He could have gone alone, he kinda looked like he had. Yet, here he was all the same.

If Adrian already had skin in the game, Game the Gambler was willing to bet he wanted more. "Mt. Pyre, Tsukuyomi's all cued up." He pitched his thumb at his Kadabra.

"Alright, alright," he spoke in an exasperated tone after answering the door and allowing Senon to pass over the threshold of his abode. Adrian too was curious as to the content and meaning behind the mysterious device. He just wasn't alwaus so eager to head up to the summit.

Excepting if it was for Howie, which in this case...

A Few Hours Later

"I've been camping out here with Incense the last couple days, once I realized what the device was about," he spoke softly as he sat with his back to a dilapidated headstone.

"But I haven't seen a single one. Yet."

They haven't even reached the summit yet. He clutches a bouquet of wild flowers somewhere along the lower platforms, where many of the earlier graves were placed.

He had three vouchers to claim any pokémon he wanted from the 'underground' but now that he finally had a species in mind, they didn't have any, anywhere.

Ugh.

"I'd hate to admit it but I haven't seen a single one since I moved here." It had been a whole damn year already. Not that he'd been looking that whole time, or ever. But, if he'd came across one, he'd have remembered.

He stayed low and kept his voice as low among the graves.

"I've been spending more time on the Jagged Pass after my weekly run of the Fiery Path." He was doing the same with the incense he'd stockpiled now that he finally had a heavy enough reason to use them.

"I've caught a Ralts down that way," Adrian responded in fondness of the memory. It was a risky place to venture into, but the pokemon there were more rugged for it. But never had he seen an Unown down that way, as far as he could recall. Most of his were gacha, likely imported from Johto's Ruins of Alph back when they were abundant.

"I hope we find one, but..."

By now, their novelty made them scarce.

"Either way, I'd like to figure out why that guy was spewing that... haze," he struggled trying to explain it. Even with eyes as keen as his, Adrian couldn't tell what it was. But he was sure it boded ill. "Something seemed off about it."

Oh. He'd nearly forgotten about that.

That was a mystery in an of itself wasn't it.

His first guess was that the man was a gastly in disguise. It was plausible but way too stupid to say aloud. So there was probably another answer.

"Maybe he was an avatar." Fernando Silph secreted pink wafts of sweet fumes seemingly dense enough to be a smokescreen in a small enough area. "He sure as hell had some connections to give out these devices."

He couldn't just outright tell Senon he was wrong, lest he sound too sure of himself, verging on the point of fact. It might cause some unwanted attention.

"Maybe. But that just seems way too..."

What the actual fuck?

"...Obvious." He'd paused mid-syllable as they came up on a Bronzong and an Unown floating through the air in a silent communion. As they approached the Bronzong became defensive, but the Unown didn't react, as if it wasn't seeing them-but something else entirely. Its lone eye was transfixed, and it seemed unlikely it would resist.

"You nab it, I'll take bozo over there," he spoke as the Bronzong raised its arm threateningly at them before they stretched outward, expelling a psychokinetic barrier that blocked their escape. A Dusclops appeared from out of Adrian's pokeball, casting a Will-O'-Wisp before following up with a Fire Punch. The Bronzong staggered back before firing off a Gyro Ball that missed him by a couple feet.

"Take it down," he barked.

Once it had, Adrian hurtled a pokeball its way.

It was usually a big mistake grabbing wild pokemon by hand. They didn't trust humans enough to be handled by them and whats more was they hadn't survived in the wilds by being easy to be handled.

The little guy wandered so close it was easy to get a grab on him. The moment he did, it started to shake and buck free.

Though it seemed distracted. "Tsu, calm it down." The kadabra lacked for a specific move to quell the unown but through base psychic ability he could transfer thought and therefore intent quite well.

They didn't want to hurt the wildling, they wanted its help, they needed it.

When Tsukuyomi's eyes ceased glowing telepathic relay, Sénon let go of the unown.

"Easy, easy." The Head Ranger got down in a crouch. "You're what all this fuss is about?" The Symbol Pokémon quirked its monobrow in confusion, but it didn't seem to want to flee anymore.

Crimsen attempted to befriend Unown-L.

"You shouldn't go grabbing that thing, don't you know how many people went missing in the Ruins of Alph?" Most people stopped researching Unown and began to focus on the tablets and relics housed therein, allowing the peculiar pokemon to roam freely whenever they appeared. Most trainers found them useless as well, so they didn't bother them much. When somebody did, bad things happened.

But Adrian lacked an appreciation for caution.

A Meditite and some Exeggcute nearby garnered his attention, but a sinister look sent them packing. It was just as well, as Adrian really didn't have time for bothering with small fry. "Hey, have you spoken to Serena lately?"

Shame on him, his eyes went wide in a look of half-shock, which left the other half to be bewilderment. "What?"

He remembered hearing about the Ruins as a kid but he'd missed the note about people going missing.

Once "L" took to his pokéball Sénon released him again.

Probably easier to lure in another unown with the presence of one wasn't it? "So there's stakes to this whole thing?"

Adrian scared off the next couple of wanders but before the eggs could scramble off, Sénon snatched one up.

The rest of the peanut gallery jumped and started their annoying cry. "EX.EGG.CUTE" over and over. Suddenly he was 12 again.

Tsukuyomi rendered a psychic wave and the cluster of pre-hatchlings were easy pickings after that.

Crimsen attempted to capture Exeggcute.

"I-?" He froze under the mention of Serena Malcolm because he was a dirty bird. "Why do you ask?" The eyes of half-bewilderment came back.
