"So... I'm gonna get reimbursed for the pokeballs I wasted, right?" He didn't mean to be a Scrooge, but if Team Rocket was going to have him corral pokemon for a furnace, they were going to pay their way through the endeavor. It wasn't coming out of his pocket anymore.

To be fair, in Adrian’s defense, if there’s anyone in the world who can understand not wanting to spend their hard-earned pokedollars in what seems like a “waste”, that definitely is Mars. After all, the man runs a bank, it could be said that money is what he’s about.

"It does, and yet..." Adrian is interrupted by the pokemon Lunatone and Misdreavus, having sighted their auras well before they placed themselves in their range of visibility. "It's one of my favorite things to do."

Collecting was his obsession of his dating back years.

Pokemon, badges, rare objects... He wanted them all and more. And it wasn't by happenstance that many of them directly offered, or at least signified, power and prestige.

It was all connected to one overarching motive.

"Smoking a little dope always helps, too."

Not that he smoked around strangers so liberally.

"Nah. Got to keep my bearings here." Didn't want to have a blunder over a cliff, or lower his guard around Martin. It's a nice gesture though. Pacing around, he ignores the Hypno in the distance. It calls to memory the night a swarm of them tried to lure away sleeping citizens in Slateport. Weirdly enough, those were better times. Simpler.

"Wish it were easier to find what we're looking for." If they could go to Johto, to the Ruins of Alph, maybe they could acquire more subjects. Or if they had any incense...

They would just have to do it the old fashioned way.

Adrian nods solemnly; the soiree was the perfect reason for why they desperately needed to get their hands on these strange pokemon—to understand them. "We'll just have to keep a level head next time something like that happens." Wishful thinking, that.

While they're setting their minds to the task, he ponders over the tales of the two towers in Johto, and the associated lore of the region. Although Unown didn't originate from there, some of the preeminent researchers on the subject first cracked open the Ruins of Alph.

Why didn't Rocket just send some folks over from Kanto to round some up? A question for the Admins, perhaps. "Say, why haven't we just sent for some from Johto...?"

Then again, pokemon smuggling wasn't so simple to begin with, and these things tended to slip through pocket dimensions on a whim. Maybe they had tried.

Adrian is right and Mars knows as much, and the truth is that he’s all too disappointed in himself for wasting such an opportunity. He could have caught the Unown if he hadn’t walked into the mist. He could have kept discussing the Lake Trio with chryssa glasgow and learned more about her prophecy. Instead, what had he gained? He had been a fool to look out for someone else over his own self-interest.

Of course, Mars also knows dwelling on such things won’t do him any good; that he can’t change the past and that what’s done is done. All that’s left is to look forward. So, he distracts himself by commanding his Inkay to bring down a nearby Phantump, which the little squid swiftly does with a NIGHT SLASH.

Too bad the Phantump knows DESTINY BOND.

He clicks his tongue when both pokémon fall to the ground, throwing a pokéball and then returning his attention to Adrian.

”Good question. I said we should, but that’s not up to me. I’d go to Johto myself if I had the time…”
