[attr=class,bulk][break]Though he was waiting on another, Derek couldn't help but get out there early to see if he could catch anything before Adrian showed up. The cold weather made way for a little snowfall, which had melted for the most part by now. Even so, some of the shady hillsides had enough for one to slip and slide on. Some of the migrants seemed to enjoy that very much.

This was obvious due to the band of Piplup sledding down on their bellies. Though he thought they would exercise caution as he passed the hill, one of them slid right down at him. It seemed to be the leader of the group, or perhaps just a bully. Getting up in Derek's face, the pokemon made a rather intimidating expression...

"Okay, okay! I'm leaving! ...Geez." Who would've thought they would get mad like that just because of a passerby? Whatever. Moving along the path, it wasn't far until Derek reached the other side of the route, which was where he was supposed to link up with Adrian.

Adrian came walking up the route from Rustboro, touching down in the city about half an hour later. By the time he arrived on scene, Derek was already skulking about for pokemon. A shame neither of them had an interest in Piplup. Rowan and Mistral would love this.

"Hey! Don't tell me you went and nabbed all the good ones already," he said with an accusing smirk before approaching the trainer, holding out his fist. After a bump of the knuckles, he would be ready to explore a little further into the snow-covered foothills.

"Nah, nothing like that." Derek returns the fist bump, allowing the two of them to be on their way. "I did see some Piplup sledding a ways off. They didn't like me very much. Must've thought I was gonna ruin their fun somehow." By capturing one of their friends, most likely.

The duo of psychic types that are soon to present themselves are fully evolved, though Derek already has his share of the particular specimen that did interest him. "Beauty and the beast." Not even willing to do battle with them, Derek simply makes a little fun of the pokemon before continuing on his way.

"I saw 'em too." It was just about the only thing worth seeing. Everything else was something he'd already experienced before; Exeggcutor and Gardevoir hardly stirred up any excitement from him these days. He craved something to break up the dull monotony.

"By the way." Derek starts while throwing a pokeball towards the Kadabra, allowing his Grimmsnarl to do battle while they'd chat. It's sucker punch was more than enough to put the psychic type on the ground, though it scrambled to it's feet and used it's power to teleport away to safety. "I never really got to ask. What is it you do besides make music? I've heard it said you might be retired, so I was sorta curious why you trained pokemon. Especially to be so strong." There were many accounts of Adrian's participation in the numerous times Hoenn had been rescued by it's trainers. But for whatever reason, Derek never really knew what kind of a trainer Adrian was. Or why he even trained pokemon...

"Have you taken on many of the gym challenges yet?"

A wild doe Stantler pads up to him, silent for the snow blanketing the ground, FRISKing him for any treats that might be on his person as its nose huffs. Scenting him reveals little of interest, so after he runs a hand along its muzzle dismissively, it leaves him be. Ever since Mt. Pyre, most pokemon treat him passively. It's a strange thing.

"Hmm?" It is a boring, tedious question... or at least, that's what he'd have anyone believe. Anything but explaining how he actually makes a living. "My family has a trust fund..." Only normally, he should've been cut off from it.

"I've always wanted to be the best at battling." Man has ever sought to raise himself through conflict; Adrian was no exception to that common trend.

"Three of them, actually." Adrian pulls out a little case with three of the eight traditional slots occupied by the SURVIVAL, KNOCKOUT and RHYTHM badges respectively. As quickly as he's shown them, they're tucked away for safekeeping. "It's not nearly enough though..."
