For someone who lives considerably close to Mt. Chimney and who can even see it in the distance from one of the balconies of his ever so luxurious penthouse in Mauville Hills, Mars never really cared much for the volcano. Until recently, that is.

Reports have said that Unown are to be found in the vicinity of Jagged Pass, and that being the case, isn’t this the perfect time to take up the hobby of going for weekend hikes?

His doctors did say he should slow down and try to do more relaxing things…

Although, admittedly, Jagged Pass doesn’t make for a particularly easy hike, and so it also isn’t particularly relaxing…

Who ever said Mars is good at doing what other people ask of him?

He just walks among volcanic rocks, his Zeraora following along with no trouble at all.

Locke suppressed a shiver as he pulled the neck of his new sweater up. Others would call the Delibird-and-giftbox pattern gaudy, but nothing trapped heat better than a grandmother’s loving stitchwork.

Flying on the back of a large, fire-breathing dragon also helped keep the cold at bay.

A curious rumbling noise pulled their attention to the mount in question. ”Hm? What’s up?” Or down. They peered over Liza-Liza’s wings at the ground below, where an unusual but familiar blur of white fur was pacing itself beside-

“Mister del Mar!” Locke called out as they guided their Charizard down to meet the pair. ”Fancy seeing you up here!”

People generally don’t expect to run into anyone when going hiking, and Mars had no reason to think otherwise. Yet, despite the unlikeliness of it all, it’s soon enough that a familiar voice calls out to him from up above – Locke Jamison directing their Charizard to land near the banker and his Zeraora.

”Locke! What are you doing all the way up here?” The smile with which he greets the courier is a genuine one, bright and confident as Mars’ always are, and by his side, the Electric type looks at Locke with curiosity, yellow eyes remaining fixed on them until a nearby sound distracts it.

Large and fluffy ears twitch, and in a ‘blink and you miss it’ sort of move, the Zeraora gets in the way of a coconut-like berry thrown by a Passimian – smashing it into pieces with one swift punch.

Why do monkeys have to be so rude?

”Oh. One moment. Fulgora, would you?”
[break][break]
Without even a sound, the feline disappears as if by lighting strike, rushing towards the Passimian and hitting it with a FIRE PUNCH. Maybe that will teach it not to go around throwing stuff, right?

A wild Abra disappeared from under Liza-Liza just before she landed, Teleporting away to what would hopefully be a less-crowded napping spot. Locke slid down from his Charizard’s back to drop next to del Mar, his Chingling jingling from his belt loop as she tried to get a better look at the pair.

“Oh, we finished our last delivery a little while ago, so I wanted fly around the mountain a bit!” They explained. ”But what about you? First farming, now hiking? You’ll lose your city boy reputation at this rate!”

Most of his time, sure, but not all, since the truth is that some of Mars' favourite hobbies take him far away from Hoenn’s busy urban areas whenever he has a chance to indulge in things like those. Sailing, diving, wakeboarding, surfing, fishing… Admittedly, most of those are still rich guy hobbies, but at least it makes him “outdoorsy”, no?

Before they have a chance to say anything else, a bell tolls, the sound being all too strange given that they’re indeed so far from the city. It’s a Bronzong. One that when hit by the Zeraora’s flaming fists makes an even louder sound, it’s distress leading it to become an easy target for one of Mars’ pokéballs.

”Hiking is good for you, you should try it sometime! But, if it helps, I’m also here looking for Unown.” He smirks then, having no reason to keep his intentions hidden.

Locke just shrugged and teased, ”I figured rich folk only went outside for, like, golf. Or yacht parties.”

The deep toll of the Bronzong’s defeat spurred Rin-Rin into starting her own Uproar, ringing a wild and offbeat melody that echoed throughout the pass and forced her trainer to pry her off their belt to run amok. A wild Kirlia seemed to enjoy the chaotic tune, however, twirling and prancing underneath the Chingling until it was too tired to continue, settling onto a flat bit of ground to clap along instead.

”I get more than enough exercise running for my life all the time, thanks.” A short walk between towns was one thing, but climbing the whole mountain every day for work when he could fly way faster? Exhausting.

”Unown…I’ve definitely seem ‘em around here…” he mused, then lit up with a thought. ”Ah! Hold on, think I’ve got-Here!” Three quick flashes revealed his own small collection of Unown. ”They mostly hang around in groups, yeah? Maybe this’ll attract more?”

Mars can’t help but laugh at Locke’s teasing comment, because as much as it may suck to admit it: they’re not all that wrong.

”Okay, okay, fair. I do have a yacht, and I go golfing sometimes. Hell of a boring sport, though. Never understood why it’s so huge in the business world.”

Probably because it’s easy to discuss things while golfing, and it's a change of pace from sitting in an office.

The thought passingly crosses his mind, but of course, with everything that happens a moment later, he’s quickly distracted from it – all reflections on boring things like golfing abandoned in favour of more interesting topics. Especially once Locke calls out their Unown.

”Damn, three of them? Most people don’t even have one. Quite the collection you got here, Locke… Have you added them to the report yet?”

Before an answer even comes, Mars brings out his Rotom Phone, the strange geometrical logo of the Unown Report app appearing on the screen after a tap.

”Maybe you’re right, though… I have a few of them too, let’s see.”

While busy with looking through the app for any updates, the banker calls out his small swarm of Unown, the pokémon seeming intrigued and pleased by the presence of more of their kind. Sadly, no new ones approach just yet, but a curious Spoink does come bouncing out from among the rocks. Coincidence? Is it meant to suffer the same horrifying fate as one other unfortunate Spoink?

Some of the Unown circle the Bounce Pokémon, HIDDEN POWER soon showing that perhaps they aren't the biggest fans of Spoink...

Apparently uninterested in letter-hunting or offkey bell music, Liza-Liza poked around in a small collection of stone and shrubbery off to the side. She sniffed at particularly large bush, only to immediately reel back to rub at her sore and frosty snout, as a Crabominable scuttled out after her with its claws raised aggressively.

The giant crustacean reared back for another Ice Punch, only for Liza-Liza to catch its wooly arm with her Fire Fang. She swung it around, once, twice, three times before sending it flying into the stratosphere.

”Report?” Locke’s head tilted to the side. “I don’t have a Pokédex or anythin’ if that’s what ya mean…” He peered over at the curious app on del Mar’s phone, watching what looked like high-level vocab homework whizz across the screen.

”…Oh. Those are some big words.”

Apparently Locke Jamison is one of the only people in the whole of Hoenn who hasn’t heard of the Unown Report, and honestly, Mars finds himself somewhat glad for it, because that sure is some stressful stuff to be thinking of. At the mention of ‘big words’, he can’t help but chuckle.
