The ruins of the power plant had become a haunting, and very dangerous, place to explore. Since the battle of Mauville, wild Pokémon had run rampant and almost completely unchecked in this place. It had been easier to close it off from the rest of the world than clear it, after all. Which, tonight, served the benefit of Rocket.

The science division were looking for Steel-type Pokémon for a particularly important assignment of theirs. Stock was running low as they sacrificed these Pokémon to their endeavour, however, and a requisitions claim was made to receive more. Naturally, two of Rocket's admins were some of the first to offer their help: Martín del Mar and Remiel Calcifet .

They walk down a derelict hallway littered with rubble, wires, and faded vestiges of paperwork. The sound of wild Pokémon echoes down far. Every so often, an ominous rumble beneath their feet prompts Remiel's Charmeleon, ATSUKO, to stop and growl as she takes in her surroundings.

The last time Mars had visited the ruins of New Mauville, it had also been for the sake of aiding with the acquisition of Steel types for the science division’s latest project. One by one pokémon were thrown into the hellish fires of the laboratory’s furnace, scientific curiosity apparently not yet satiated despite the many donations made by members of Team Rocket – himself included.

The question is asked out of curiosity and nothing more as they walk through the ruined power plant. They need something to talk about so this doesn’t become terribly dull, after all, and given their reasons to be at New Mauville, Exodus just so happens to be the topic that fills his mind at the time.

"I've been far too busy with other things as of late," Remiel responds, watching as Atsuko turns a corner and growls at something standing there. "But that's what I'm here for now."

A clash occurs as the pair of Rocket higher-ups continue walking. The sharp whistle of a NIGHT SLASH. The roar of an INFERNO. Then... silence.

When the royal finally reaches the corner and turns it, he finds a Bisharp smoldering on the ground. His Charmeleon proudly stands over it. Remiel produces a luxury ball and tosses it towards the defeated opponent.

"How about you?" He inquires of Mars.

The comment is made teasingly and with a wink, Mars being well aware that there’s many people out there who would indeed consider even something like this to be the highest of honours. Mars himself, though? To him this is an assignment for Team Rocket like any other, and beyond that, it’s spending time with a friend he doesn’t see all that often because they’re both indeed as busy as can be.

If only for a moment, their conversation is interrupted by the presence of a Bisharp, and while Mars watches the battle, he quickly finds himself bored enough to get distracted by a nearby Helioptile. His Gallade is released from a Luxury Ball, and when the little lizard tries to run away, the power of a PSYCHIC attack holds in place.

"You should always be honoured when graced with my presence," Remiel facetiously responds, shifting his eyes briefly towards Mars with the faintest of smiles on his lips. "Whether I've been busy or not. It takes a lot to deal with the likes of your smugness, I'll have you know."

In truth, Martín del Mar wasn't quite unlike some of the friends he'd managed to make while attending Hammerlocke University. So he was actually quite used to dealing with smugness.

Just then, an ELECTABUZZ charges out from the forest to try and THUNDER PUNCH his Charmeleon. Atsuko acts swiftly with a COUNTER, however, driving the Electabuzz's face into the ground. Afterwards, Remiel produces a luxury ball from his pack and tosses it.

"Well, that's quite nice," He remarks— talking about the gift of tequila from Lulu Flint, of course. "If I had to guess... I'd say they're researching the recipe for Meltan. Their vast capabilities are amazing..."

Remiel snorts; an undignified gesture that he reserves for close friends and ridiculous claims. Though the jury was still out on deciding exactly which Mars fell upon.

Regardless, a MAGNEMITE rises from behind a small hill with a crackling orb of black electricity gathered just in front of its eye. It points this charged energy directly at Remiel, angrily beeping and booping before firing it off with reckless abandon (ZAP CANNON).

His Charmeleon, however, counters with a fiery INFERNO that swallows the Magnemite and its attack whole. When it falls to the ground in a clatter, Remiel produces an empty ball and casts it.

Hearing his royal highness Remiel Calcifet snorting like that surely has to be some sort of strange privilege, but while Mars would usually comment on that sort of thing (most likely to mock him, if we’re being perfectly honest here), he finds himself distracted by the sudden appearance of a Forrestress.

They definitely should deal with that thing before it decides to Self Destruct on them, and with Remiel’s Charmeleon being busy dealing with a wild Magnemite, Mars decides to give his Rapidash a chance to have some fun.

Lilac flames are aimed for the steel bug in the form of a FIRE BLAST, the dignified stallion looking down upon the pokémon that's ever so week to his fire.

The swarm of rabid wild Pokémon continues. Attracted to the scene by the scent of smoky Forretress, a DURANT skitters out from a hole in a wall to approach them. When it catches sight of Remiel's snarling Charmeleon, however, it charges with the intent to VICE GRIP.

Atsuko stands her ground, however, standing firm and balanced before she seizes both pincers with her claws. They struggle to clamp together and break free, desperate to slice at the lizard's neck. Instead, they are used as handles in the process of slamming the Durant to the ground (COUNTER).

When it struggles to get back up, a mass of wriggling legs, the Charmeleon scorches it without mercy (INFERNO). Afterwards, Remiel pulls out another empty ball and casts it.

While Remiel deals with an all too aggressive Durant, the pokémon that approaches Mars’ Rapidash is much more friendly-looking: a small and rather adorable Morpeko.

…Until it switches to its “Hangry Mode”, that is.

Dark energy swirls as the Two-Sided Pokémon spins, AURA WHEEL rolling straight towards the stallion. Huffing, Incitatus just so barely avoids the small rat, taking it upon himself to retaliate with a POISON JAB from his horn. Toxins fill the Morpeko, and without a second to waste, a FLAME CHARGE follows.
